1976 Beetle Convertible

84,300 mile

ENJOY LIFE!  DRIVE A CONVERTIBLE!  Up for AUCTION is this Beautiful 1976 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible!  If you have ever owned or driven one of these great little cars, you know what fun they are!  Just running errands is a blast. And a top-down ride on a beautiful day is pure pleasure. It has always been a weekend driver, never used every day. It's very straight and shiny

This is a documented California car with low milage, it appears to be a 2 owner. We have a lot of receipts going back to 1998 . The beetle still retains its California smog equipment including the catilictic converter.(probably needs to be removed)

This beetle runs really well and shifts like a beetle should.

You have to give it 3 or 4 minutes to warm up at an idle, I am told that a simple fix for this is a $70 pre ignition part but it never bothered my wife or me.

Paint is about 10 years old according to the receipt and looks very presentable, It is not perfect but then this car needs to driven to shows. The sills and inside of the doors, trunk and motor appear to be original paint and nicks and scratches have been touched up.

Looks have newer interior running boards and carpet. Top will need replaced if you plan on using it up all the time. It has a patch I have included the picture , This hole was from being down up against the steel top all the time. We never put it up and it appears neither did the previous owner.

We have VW books for the car including the owners pamphlet.

Tires and brakes show about 2 years of age but only 1000 miles according to the receipts.

Doesn't have the usual shake at 50 , wife has had it up to 70 and it cruises nice at 55 to 60 MPH.

We drive this car and it gets a lot of attention everywhere we go, especially at show and shines or cruises. It is easy on gas and we are selling as a # 3 condition driver. It is a little better than that but use that as a pricing guide.

Thank you and if you win this car enjoy and drive it!

Volkswagen's 261-mpg hand-built XL1 headed for Geneva

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

After years of rumors, development and testing, the Volkswagen XL1 is finally about to become a reality. The project that began life as a daring 1-Liter concept car in 2002, will finally get its production-ready curtain call at the Geneva Motor Show in just a few weeks.
As soon as it hits the streets, the two-seat XL1 will instantly become the most fuel-efficient and most aerodynamic production car in the world. The car uses a plug-in hybrid system to achieve mind-blowing consumption of just 0.9 liters of diesel fuel consumed every 100 kilometers (and average of roughly 261 miles per gallon). Plus, the XL1 can go up to 50 kilometers on its battery power alone. Coefficient of drag is a miniscule 0.189, thanks to a tiny frontal area and an obviously slippery shape.
XL1 power comes from a two-cylinder diesel motor connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, while the 20 kW electric motor is fed by a lithium-ion battery. Both combine to give the XL1 performance figures that are, while not stirring, not shabby considering its extreme frugality: 0-62 miles per hour comes up in 12.7 seconds and top speed is nearly 146 mph.

TN politicians may push to end VW incentives if plant goes union

Tue, 11 Feb 2014

Volkswagen's Chattanooga Assembly Plant is scheduled to vote on whether to unionize in the coming days, but Tennessee state lawmakers are threatening to deny future tax subsidies to the factory, if the vote is successful. The factory is currently the only Volkswagen plant worldwide that is not unionized.
The states's Republican lawmakers have been particularly vocal against the union vote. Tennessee state senator Bo Watson said during a press conference that VW would have a "very tough time" with future incentives if the vote were successful, according to Automotive News. Tennessee House Majority Leader Gerald McCormick said the "heavy hand" of the UAW is not welcome there. VW has drawn criticism from both sides because it has allowed both pro- and anti-union groups to speak to workers and hand out leaflets.
Roughly 1,500 factory employees will vote on whether to unionize from February 12-14. If successful, the Chattanooga factory would be the first in the US organized under a German-style works council system where white- and blue-collar workers directly negotiate factory issues with the company's management.

Anti-union group files lawsuit against VW and UAW

Fri, 14 Mar 2014

The fight for unionization at Volkswagen's Chattanooga, TN, factory isn't letting up. Yesterday, the National Labor Relations Board decided to allow anti-United Auto Workers employees at the plant the right to defend voting down the measure. Now, a group called the National Right to Work Foundation has filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of five workers against VW and the UAW for allegedly working together to organize.
The group says in a release that it wants "to block further collusion between the company and the United Auto Workers." It alleges that VW forced workers to attend "mandatory pro-union meetings" and prevented managers from opposing. In a rebuttal on its website, the UAW called the claims "baseless" and said its actions were entirely legal.
One possible problem faces the carmaker in regards to the lawsuit. According to the Detroit Free Press, a recent US Court of Appeals ruling found that neutrality agreements like the one the business had with the UAW could be illegal if the company provided "things of value" to the union. The newspaper also claims that VW held a mandatory employee meeting concerning the election, but workers were free to leave during the UAW's presentation.
