1973 Volkswagen Bug - Vw Beetle - Sedan .... Just 27,000 Miles ... A Classic Bug on 2040-cars
Oxford, Maryland, United States
Offered here is a rather nice, unrestored, VW Beatle with just 27,000 miles since new.
I purchased this Beatle last year from a local family who were the 2nd owners of the car. The story is that it originally belonged to a California exec. and family who kept a 2nd home here o the Eastern Shore of Maryland. It was used as a grocery getter and general errand car that rarely left the county, let alone the state. The car sat in the garage for nine months of the year - thus the low mileage. What documents I have, seems to prove this mileage out. The title states 26,777 miles when last titled in October 2012 by the 2nd owners. A brief description and tons of photos follow. It's a classic standard Beatle in every way. The only options on this US version Volkswagen was a radio that has since been removed. And, someone along the way added an auxiliary heater blower and two cabin vents located under the rear seat along with the battery. Along the way here I'll try to show as much detail of the car as possible. I know some eBayers will not be able to inspect the car personally so I've posted as many photos as possible. It's not quite like actually 'kicking the tires' but it's as close as I can get in this venue. In this photo you can see some cracking to the paint on the valance panel located under the deck lid. I have a detailed photo of this later area in this listing.
The car looks good from any angle. It's not a show car by any means, more like a 'ten footer' in my way of looking at things. There is very, very little rust on this Beatle ... I'll point out what I can. In this photo you can see a slight difference in the paint tone ... it appears that the door was repainted at some time in the past. All the body panels look good and show little signs of age or previous damage. Almost anyone over forty years old has VW Bug stories to tell. Honeymooned in one, went to the prom, had a great road trip, etc. This nice example has some nice stories left in her.
The interior looks as good as the exterior. Not perfect but nice. Judging from the good condition of the seat covers I'd have to say that they were replaced at sometime with OEM covers - both front and back. I could be wrong here, I just don't know. They seem too good to me for 41 years old. The outer ring steering wheel has a few age cracks as shown Just 26,889 miles to date. Should have a few left in her. 4-speed manual transmission ... you remember them, right? The original radio is long gone. A cheap piece of ply has been inserted to the radio slot as a jury-rigged insert instead of a proper 'radio delete' plate as would have come from the factory. A few more views of the seating.
The headliner also looks good for it age with no holes. The door panels show little signs of any real wear.
The engine runs great and was just serviced. 1,600 cc - about 50 HP of raw power. This model should average about 30 MPG.
Notice light rust around the lip where the weather seal attaches. Not a biggie but there. Something needs to be said about the electrical system here. When I purchased the car it was only able to run via a jump wire from the key ignition to the starter - it's the same now. Simply said, the electrical system is wonky at best. The car runs and drives but has little other electrical functions ... no lights, horn, wipers, etc. I'm no electrician and haven't messed with the wiring at all. Worst case scenario, it'll need a new wiring harness. These are readily available for the many online suppliers if VW parts ... parts nowadays seem cheaper than when I was a kid and driving these VWs as daily drivers.
The tires are less than a year old and have very little wear to date. Tires - Matched four of new 'Nankang' radial tires - Size: 165/80R15 ... 95%+ tread remaining All four turn signals are in great condition.
Here's the detail of the rear valance panel mentioned before. It shows signs of previous body work. Some details on the hood. The VIN plate on the car ... shows a build date of May, 1973.
To wrap this up, this last group of exterior photos are just to show this Bug in a different light.
Full disclosure is what I'm after here .... I want you to know what your buying. This 1973 VW Beatle is perfect ... it's a good example of the model that one could ever expect for a 41 year old unrestored vehicle. There are imperfections as one would well expect. If there is something I haven't covered please feel free to give a call at 410-310-3543 ... I'll be happy to help in any way I can. This 1973 VW accelerates well, runs well, shifts nicely and handles quite nimbly.
If your in the market for an excellent example of a good VW Beatle ... then this one is well worth considering. Please have a look at all the photos I've provided here and then decide for yourself if this is the one for you. I will be glad to help in any way I can ... please don't hesitate to ask. I'd like to make your eBay buying experience a pleasant one and will do what I can to make it so. If I've missed anything here, please feel free to drop give me a call at (410) 310-3543. I've done my best to describe this vehicle in an accurate and honest fashion ... if I've missed anything please let me know. Note: I'll add addendums to this listing as necessary. Please check back for updated information. This 1973 VW Beatle is located in Oxford, Maryland (Maryland's beautiful Eastern Shore ... Zip Code 21654) which is about 1-1/2 hrs. East of Washington DC and Baltimore ... and about 2 hrs. South of Philadelphia .... and 4 hrs. South of New York City. Please consider viewing this 1973 VW in person before you bid as your eBay bid is a binding contract. I'll be happy to show you it's many features. There is absolutely nothing to hide here. If you're thinking about shipping this VW Beatle home ... I may be able to be of assistance. I've done this a couple times in the past and can help to put you in touch with a shipper at a reasonable cost and then meet with the driver when he comes to pick the car up. It can be just that simple. Any questions? If so, please feel free to call me at 410-310-3543.

Only VW, Volvo are doing enough to electrify in Europe, study says
Wed, Jun 16 2021Among major carmakers, Volkswagen and Volvo are doing enough to electrify their vehicle lineups in Europe, and the EU needs to set tougher CO2 emission limits if it wants to meet Green Deal targets, according to a climate group's study. Sales of battery electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids almost tripled last year, boosted by tighter emission standards and government subsidies. This summer, the European Union is expected to announce more ambitious CO2 targets; by 2030, the average CO2 emissions of new cars should be 50% below 2021 levels, versus the existing target of 37.5%. Volkswagen aims to have 55% group-wide BEV sales in Europe by 2030, while Swedish carmaker Volvo, owned by China's Geely says its lineup will be fully electric by then. VW ID4 front three quarter dark View 19 Photos Based on IHS Markit car production forecasts, according to the study from European campaign group Transport and Environment (T&E), Volkswagen and Volvo have "aggressive and credible strategies" to shift from fossil-fuel cars to electric vehicles. Others like Ford Motor Co have set ambitious targets, "but lack a robust plan to get there," T&E said. Ford plans an all-electric lineup in Europe by 2030. T&E said BMW, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), Daimler AG and Toyota rank the worst as they have low BEV sales, have "no ambitious phase-out targets, no clear industrial strategy, and an over-reliance in the case of BMW, Daimler and Toyota on hybrids." JLR, owned by India's Tata Motors, says its luxury Jaguar brand will be all-electric by 2025, but has been less specific about electrification of its higher-volume Land Rover brand. BMW and Daimler have been reluctant to set hard deadlines for phasing out fossil-fuel cars. T&E said even if carmakers meet their targets, in 2030 BEV sales could be 10 percentage points below those needed to meet the EU's Green Deal — which targets net zero emissions by 2050. Rather than a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030, based on carmakers' existing production plans, the EU could set more ambitious targets, T&E said - an up to 35% reduction in CO2 emissions from new cars by 2025, around 50% by 2027 and up to 70% in 2030. "Targets need to be gradually tightened so that carmakers not only commit to phasing out fossil fuels, but develop a strategy that gets them there on time," Julia Poliscanova, T&E senior director for vehicles and e-mobility, said in a statement.
Recharge Wrap-up: Volkswagen adopts CCS Combo plug, Tesla adds Trip Energy Prediction
Thu, Jan 22 2015Volkswagen plans to use CCS Combo plugs as standard for all future plug-in vehicles. The CCS fast-charging allows cars to charge to 80-percent capacity in as little as 15 minutes for cars like the Cross Coupe GTE. This could be a boon to prospective customers, as studies have found plug-in hybrid drivers plug in more frequently than originally expected. Plug-in drivers seem to want to perform as much driving as possible using electricity alone, and VW's plan to adopt the CCS Combo plug could help drivers achieve that. Read more at Green Car Reports. Tesla's 6.1 Firmware update for the Model S includes a Trip Energy Prediction feature. The new feature takes into account things like elevation, speed and predicted driving behavior to estimate the amount of energy used and how much range will be left in the battery after a route is programmed into the navigation system. It can let the driver know if a round trip can be made, and if the driver will need to charge before heading out. The feature updates itself in realtime throughout the drive as well, responding to how much energy is actually being used. Read a rundown of Trip Energy Prediction at Teslarati. More than half of Mazdas sold in 2018 are CX-5s, and other interesting sales facts
Mon, Jan 7 2019Last year was a seriously good year for carmakers. Overall, more vehicles were sold than in 2017, and the total number wasn't far off of the all-time record in 2016. Digging deeper into the numbers, you'll find some pretty usual stuff including the Ford F-Series still being the bestselling pickup truck in America, and a continued trend toward crossovers. But there are also some oddball factoids tucked in these sales reports, some that defy the trends, and some that are extremes of the public's buying preferences. We've compiled several interesting tidbits from last year's sales right here for your enjoyment. More than half of Mazda's sales were of CX-5s Yes, over half of all Mazda sales were of this one model. The company sold 300,325 cars in America last year, and 150,622 of them were CX-5 crossovers, or 50.1 percent. Just for emphasis, that means the other 49.8 percent of Mazda's sales were split among five other models, the Miata, 3, 6, CX-3 and CX-9. Breaking that down further, the second-best seller was the Mazda3 at 64,638, which isn't even half of the CX-5's sales. People are crazy for Mazda's middle crossover. Volkswagen actually sold more cars than crossovers It's clear that the crossover is the future king of car sales. For most mainstream brands, it already is. Chevy, Ford, Honda, Toyota, Subaru, Mazda and Nissan all sold more crossovers and SUVs than they did conventional sedans and hatchbacks. There are holdouts, though, and one of them is Volkswagen. At the end of 2018, the company sold 189,343 cars and 164,721 crossovers in the U.S. So that's one win for the classic car set, and it's justification for VW to maintain its car line for the foreseeable future. It's a bit of a hollow victory, though. Look closer and you'll see that car sales were down 28 percent from 2017, when VW sold 262,029 cars. Crossovers, on the other hand, jumped 112 percent from 2017 when 77,647 crossovers moved through U.S. dealers. So expect the tables to turn very soon. Mustang is still the muscle-car sales king, but Challenger is the only one to improve Once again, the Ford Mustang topped the muscle-car sales charts, beating out the Dodge Challenger and Chevy Camaro. Ford moved 75,842 of the ponies in 2018, while Dodge sold 66,716 Challengers for second place, and Chevy sold 50,963 Camaros to bring up the rear.
