Heres a 1972 Volkswagen bug, red with black interior. Drivetrain: Engine fires right up and runs great, no smoke, and transmission shifts well. The car was registered and on the road until just recently, and I still drive it up and down the street occaisonally to keep the fluids fresh.I have the original owners manual, radio manual, and dealer network book. Brakes work but require a bit of extra pressure so it may need an adjusment or shoes replaced maybe. The E-brake works as well. The lights, instruments, factory radio, wipers, etc. are in working order. The heater is disconnected. The car has newer tires(correct ones for a classic vw), perfect hubcaps, and the rims were repainted recently. The car was originally yellow but now is red. You can see around some of the lights and body gaskets where the yellow is showing, however the underside of hood, trunk lid,and jams were painted red to match. The interior is clean with a good dash, headliner and back seat, drivers seat has tears in base and the passenger seat has a small hole in the upper corner. The rubber seals around windows etc look original and are dry. Overall the car looks decent going down the road and gets alot of attention, but has some imperfections in the paint, and some bubbles in areas like around the fender. The floors and heater channels had work done at some point and are solid. As you can see from the photo, the inside of trunk and spare tire well are super clean and solid, however the area that needs attention is just below this in the front of the car. The lower part of the "frame head" as it is called has significant rust and should be repaired or replaced. It affects the inner wheel wells and there's some thinness in some of the rocker areas. The car feels solid from behind the wheel, steers fine, and the doors close tight, and although it was being driven like this, I urge the buyer to go through the front end and make the necessary repairs. They are aftermarket frame head replacements available for less than $100. Because of this issue the reserve is very low. There are too many nice things about this car to part it out or anything like that, so I hope the new owner will keep it going. The car is sold as is with no warranty, and the buyer is responsible for pick-up. Connecticut does not have titles on antique cars but I do have the last registration and an official CT Q-1 bill of sale for transferring legal ownership in this state. Contact me with any questions by email or call (eight-six-zero)-377-0700. Thanks for looking!

VW consumer site finally gets configurator tool back
Tue, Mar 10 2015The traditional vehicle configurator is back on the Volkswagen US consumer website, and it works very well. The company now lets visitors create a virtual model to their own specs and then search for a match among dealer inventories, as is the norm from most automakers. Last summer, Volkswagen tried to break the mold with its thoroughly redesigned consumer website in the US. It sported a slick design but made the highly controversial change of removing the configurator. Instead, visitors were narrowing their selection from a searchable database of models already at dealers. While the streamlined approach immediately told users if their desired car was available, the system also largely hid the prices for options and packages. The newly tweaked design retains the previous tablet-oriented layout, but after clicking a model, the site immediately offers "Build Yours." From there, visitors select a trim, and then the vehicle pops up with options to choose things like colors and packages. The whole layout is clean, features large buttons and works quickly. At the summary page, there's still the opportunity to search for the user's choice in dealer inventories. This is definitely a major improvement.
J.D. Power customer survey of dealers counts Cadillac, Buick as big winners
Mon, 14 Apr 2014Cadillac and Buick have taken the trophies in J.D. Power's latest Customer Service Index Study examining satisfaction with dealer service. Surveying more than 90,000 owners and lessees of 2009-2013 model-year cars, the study found that those with pre-paid maintenance packages were ten percent more likely to buy their next car from the same brand.
Dealer satisfaction scores have improved overall, Cadillac nabbed the luxury segment ahead of Audi and Lexus, taking the crown that Lexus held last year. Buick keeps the mass-market dealer satisfaction win in the family, finishing ahead of Volkswagen and last year's winner GMC. The study also found that service department use of tablets increased customer satisfaction, as did "best practices" like "providing helpful advice." Who knew?
You can find details on those and more findings in the press release below.
Automakers drop support for Trump effort against California emissions
Tue, Feb 2 2021WASHINGTON — Toyota, Fiat Chrysler (now known as Stellantis following its merger with Peugeot) and other major automakers said on Tuesday they were joining General Motors in abandoning support for former President Donald Trump's effort to bar California from setting its own zero emission vehicle rules. The automakers, which also included Hyundai, Kia, Mitsubishi, Mazda and Subaru, said in a joint statement they were withdrawing from an ongoing legal challenge to California's emission-setting powers, "in a gesture of good faith and to find a constructive path forward" with President Joe Biden. The automakers, along with the National Automobile Dealers Association, said they were aligned "with the Biden administrationÂ’s goals to achieve year-over-year improvements in fuel economy standards." Nissan in December withdrew from the challenge after GM's decision in November shocked the industry and won praise from Biden. On Monday, the Justice Department asked the U.S. Appeals Court for the District of Columbia to put the California emissions litigation on hold to "ensure due respect for the prerogative of the executive branch to reconsider the policy decisions of a prior administration." Biden has directed agencies to quickly reconsider TrumpÂ’s 2019 decision to revoke CaliforniaÂ’s authority to set its own auto tailpipe emissions standards and require rising numbers of zero-emission vehicles, as well as Trump's national fuel economy rollback. Asked to respond to the automakers' action, White House climate adviser Gina McCarthy said in a statement that "after four years of putting us in reverse, it is time to restart and build a sustainable future, grow domestic manufacturing, and deliver clean cars for America." California Governor Gavin Newsom praised the automakers on Twitter for "dropping your climate-denying, air-polluting, Trump-era lawsuit against CA" and urged them to join the voluntary framework. TALKS WITH BIDEN Separately, an industry trade group on Tuesday proposed to start talks with Biden on revised fuel economy standards that would be higher than Trump-era standards but lower than ones set during the prior Democratic administration. The Trump administration in March finalized a rollback of U.S. Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards to require 1.5% annual increases in efficiency through 2026, well below the 5% yearly boosts under the Obama administration rules it discarded.
