I purchased this car in the southwestern United States four years ago. I am selling it because I am not using it enough to warrant the upkeep and insurance. It has been continually garaged since I purchased it as a Sunday driver. I have never driven it in the rain and the car is completely rust free including, the original floor pans, the heater channels, and those other places you would expect a VW of this era to rust. This is what prompted my purchase initially as rust is a problem with these vehicles. This is not a stock Volkswagon and has a number of non-stock features. The engine is a 2180 cc with a Dellorto two barrel carburetor and electric fuel pump. It is well tuned and performs flawlessly with no smoking and excellent compression. I removed the velocity stacks on the carburetor and installed a smaller K&N filter so I could close the engine compartment for a more traditional look. I have the stacks and taller K&N filter as well as the hinge extensions to accommodate the larger filter if you want them. The stacks do improve the engine performance. I am to old for noisy mufflers so I installed one with a quite rumble. The engine has an exhaust header. From the late shifting I suspect the transmission has a freeway flyer type ratio. This is a very fast VW. The turn signals are recessed into the bumper to give the fenders a cleaner California style look. I have a set of original signals I will include. The front spindles are two inches lower then stock so the car is lower in the front with 145/15 tires that are almost new. The rear has almost new 165/15 tires. The car has custom wheels. The stock steering wheel was replaced with a much smaller one. Originally I did not like this style and I was going to replace it but found it much easier to get in the front seat with the smaller wheel. All of the lights, signals, and the fuel gauge work. The alternator charges. The interior is in excellent condition although not stock. All of the window seals are new. The top and top bows are new. The car is registered and driven as an antique in Virginia.

I added bonnet pictures. There is a picture looking at the are uncarpeted to see the condition. There is a picture looking into the tire well but it does not fit in the 165/15 tire I use as a spare. The 145/15 front tire does fit the well. I included the tire well as it is an excellent indicator of the lack of rust on the car. I included a carpeted picture with the spare as I cary it with the new style jack. The carpet does not have the fiberboard under it as the original did.
On Apr-09-13 at 15:39:33 PDT, seller added the following information:
I added a picture I took laying on the garage floor of the floorpans looking forward. I included a view of the heater channel. I appreciate why anyone looking at this car is concerned with rust. There is no floorpan or heater channel rust on the undercarriage.

VW stock delisted from Dow Jones Sustainability Index
Thu, Oct 1 2015Because of the company's years-long diesel emissions evasions, Volkswagen AG is being removed from the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices effective October 6, according to a joint statement by S&P Dow Jones Indices LLC and RobecoSAM. After looking at reports of the automaker's cheating software, the DJSI has decided that the company shouldn't be part of the index anymore. According to The Detroit News, the DJSI is meant to track the top 10 percent of companies that are considered leaders environmentally and socially in each industry among the 2,500 largest companies in the S&P Global Broad Market Index. This de-listing means that VW is no longer considered an industry leader by this group for its economic, environmental and social performance. As of this writing, VW AG's stock price sits at 97.75 euros ($109.14), and the figure has been largely in freefall since the emissions evasions reports first surfaced. It was considered shocking on September 21 when the shares plunged almost 18 percent to end the day at 132.15 euros ($147.57). According to The Detroit News, the automaker has lost about $30.8 billion in value since the EPA put out its notice of violation on September 18. Related Video: Â Volkswagen AG to be Removed from the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices New York and Zurich, September 29, 2015 Effective October 6, 2015, Volkswagen AG (VW) will be removed from the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI). A review of VW's standing in the DJSI was prompted by the recent revelations of manipulated emissions tests. Per the published and publicly available methodology for the DJSI, potential problematic issues relating to any DJSI component company automatically trigger a Media & Stakeholder Analysis (MSA), which examines the extent of the respective company's involvement and how it manages the issue. Following the MSA, the Dow Jones Sustainability Index Committee (DJSIC) reviews the issue and decides whether the company will remain in the index, based on DJSI Guidelines. In VW's case, the DJSIC reviewed the situation and ultimately decided to remove the Company from the DJSI World, the DJSI Europe, and all other DJSI indices. The stock will be removed after the close of trading in Frankfurt on October 5, 2015, thus making the removal effective on October 6, 2015. As a result, VW will no longer be identified as an Industry Group Leader in the "Automobiles & Components" industry group.
VW probes more diesels for emissions issues [UPDATE]
Thu, Oct 22 2015UPDATE: Volkswagen has released an official statement (embedded below) clarifying that neither the Euro 5 nor Euro 6 versions of the EA 288 contain software defeat devices. While this is the case for Europe, a VW spokesperson tells Autoblog: "Remedies and certifications for the vehicles in the United States are still subject to approval from the EPA and CARB." Volkswagen's diesel emissions scandal could mushroom to include even more vehicles in Europe because another engine there might be equipped with the cheating software. According to the company, it now needs to check whether early examples of the EA 288 for the Euro 5 standard can also evade tests, Automotive News reports. German regulators find that the later Euro 6 versions of the powerplant are compliant. VW initially said that 11 million EA 189 engines were affected worldwide by the cheating, and it recently included them in a stop-sale order in Europe. However, if the EA 288 diesels also have evasive software, they would only add to the millions of vehicles the company is already recalling there. At the same time, VW is facing a crunch to have a fix ready in time for mandated repairs to start in Germany in early 2016. New software should be enough to make most models compliant, but some of them might need more costly hardware changes. While the effects could be huge for Europe, the EA 288 has been included in VW's stop-sale in the US since Sept. 18. The engine is found on an estimated 67,000 examples of the 2015 model-year 2.0-liter TDI vehicles that the company calls Generation 3, according to spokesperson Jeannine Ginivan to Autoblog. US regulators are also taking a close look at the powerplant for evidence of VW altering its cheating software between engines. If proven, the changes might be evidence of a wider effort within the company to perpetuate the emissions evasion. Related Video: Volkswagen confirms: EA288 engines designed for EU5 and EU6 are not affected • Thorough appraisal of the Diesel emissions issue Wolfsburg, October 22, 2015. Volkswagen confirms today that no software constituting an improper defeat device as defined in law is installed in vehicles with EA 288 EU5 as well as EU6-engines in the European Union. Consequently, new vehicles of the Volkswagen Group offered within the European Union with those engines comply with legal requirements and environmental standards. Volkswagen AG is systematically reviewing this issue worldwide.
Final Volkswagen Eos to leave the plant in May
Tue, Feb 24 2015Volkswagen has made no secret of its plans to wind down production of the Eos hardtop convertible, and the automaker has already celebrated the model's retirement in the US with the Final Edition (pictured above). However, the company now has an actual time for that end to come. The final Eos rolls off the line from the VW factory in Portugal in May, according to Germany's Automobilwoche, and European customers have until March 27 to get any final orders in. The company has no plans to offer a successor, it previously indicated. After about nine years of production and some 230,000 made, the Eos proved to be a success, at least in its home market of Germany. A VW spokesperson told Automobilwoche it was the country's bestselling hardtop convertible at one point, but customer preferences have changed toward preferring soft-top models. That switch spelled doom for the Eos. Drivers who want some wind in their hair still have some choices in the VW lineup. The Beetle Convertible remains on sale in the US, and Europeans also get the droptop Golf.
