(Note: Please note, I had the wrong year and it has been changed to reflect that it is indeed a 1970 model) Odometer reads 54,142 but I'm sure its turned over. I bought this bug a year and a half ago with the intention of having it as a daily driver as my other vehicle is a truck and I wanted to save on wear and tear and gas with my constant back and forth town driving. The previous owner listed it as that, but don't think he was totally honest with the condition of the car, mostly by omission of information and that's partly my fault for not asking more questions. I will try to do my best to be complete and up front with my info. If you have any questions I will do my best to answer. The previous owner lived in Utah and said he got this from a kid in Las Vegas, so since repairs have been made it has resided in an arid climate. The kid that owned it before this guy rebuilt the engine. Guy I bought it from replaced floorpans, fenders, most weather stripping, some lights, bumpers, stereo system, installed EMPI shifter, carpeting, and a paint job. He informed me that he was in the middle of fixing it up for his wife as her daily driver when she decided she wanted something different, so he finished it and put it up for sale. Well, he didn't really 'finish' it. I got the car home only to make it about 100 yards down my driveway on its first drive before it died. And to my dismay I discovered that the wiring looked like rats had done the job and shorted out. The previous owner just hurriedly slapped things together to get it sold. SO, since I've had the car I've had a professional mechanic completely sort out the wiring, replaced spedometer cable, accelerator cable and grommet, replace some lug nuts that were missing, exhaust gaskets, installed seat belts on the front seats, (I have seat belts to go in the back but have not installed them) added rearview mirror to driver side door and have the other for the passenger but again haven't installed it, also have EMPI pedal pads still in package) bled the brakes, tune up, carb adjusted for the altitude change, replaced spark plug wire terminal, and a few other small items that go in keeping with a 42 yr old car. All lights, blinkers, and windshield wipers work, this car runs great and is indeed now my daily driver. The seats, dash, headliner, steering wheel, door panels are all original and in excellent shape! Only one crack over the center of the steering wheel and a small tear in the driver seat in the very back under the back rest that you only see when you tilt it forward. NO cracks at all in the dash, no tears anywhere else in the headliner or panels. During my first drive and the wiring issue, it must have shorted out the stereo as I haven't been able to get it to work since and all fuses are intact. I do have a brand new Pioneer stereo still in the box ready to be installed that will go with the car, if you can sort out the old stereo and get it to work, your bonus. Now for the negative. After a year, the new paint job started bubbling and peeling. Had my nephew look at it who specializes in body work, and he said it looks like it was a rush job and there was dust left on the body before primering (you could actually feel the grit once you lift it off the car) and combined with the intense sun here in Colorado, is causing the issue. There is no rust under the areas peeling, just bare metal and a bondo spot. So it will need a paint job first and foremost. The guy did give me the paint can with the color info so it can be exactly matched, it is a pretty cool color. My mechanic said the carburetor has a VERY slight leak that will need addressed sometime down the road. He said its nothing that needed to be worried about any time soon (this was last summer) and it hasn't changed in the last year and runs great! It readily fires up every time. The E-brake cable is stretched out and needs replaced. Heater was completely removed. Horn doesn't work. These are the only issues that I am aware of. I have been driving this thing everyday to work, grocery store, taking son to school, etc. and its perfect for downtown driving in tight places vs my truck. It's very zippy and gets a lot of compliments. A tank of gas with all of this running around would last me 2 1/2 - 3 weeks, my truck would be a week or less. I REALLY don't want to sell my little car but unfortunately we bought property that is covenant controlled and vehicles need to be kept in a garage, with 2 big trucks, 2 horse trailers, jeep, and my bug, we need to cut back. And because of 2 big dogs and 4 horses, the truck is a must! I paid $3500 for this car and have easily put another $1500 + into it including labor. My loss is your gain! Also, if you're looking for a 2 horse trailer, see my other listing. Have a great day!

VW delays new Phaeton flagship sedan

Sun, Aug 23 2015

The Bugatti Veyron was a crusade begun by former Volkswagen Group CEO Ferdinand Piech. Even though the old patriarch is no longer with the company and the astonishing coupe is rumored to have never made a cash profit, everyone understands why the car remained in the family and why a successor is on the way. The same can't be said for the VW Phaeton, another one of Piech's pursuits. Thirteen years after the budget brand introduced the now 89,650-euro ($101,000) luxury sedan that competes with other in-house products, no one knows why it lives. Since VW made roughly 4,000 of them last year, the news that it's being delayed won't affect many people. The next-generation Phaeton developed on the MLB platform is apparently ready to go right now, but Bloomberg reports that the bosses have demanded lower production and material costs before it gets a final green light. At the moment the Phaeton is put together by hand by white-gloved technicians, which might sound like a great place to start counting pennies, but again, those technicians only built 4,000 sedans last year. That's fewer than the Eos, which is being retired for slow sales, and VW sold 3,411 Eos models in the US alone last year. Recent hire Herbert Diess is the VW exec in charge of the cost-cutting push. The Phaeton is a grain of sand - but a very important one - on the beach he's meant to conquer: Diess plans to raise VW brand profit to more than six percent by 2018 at the same time there's a group-wide push to save $5.5 billion. That number would more than double the brand's current 2.7-percent profit for 2015 so far, that current number being about half the profit over at struggling French maker PSA Peugeot-Citroen. The new Phaeton's on-sale date had been reported as 2017 or 2018 earlier this year. It isn't clear how long the sedan will be pushed back because of the production changes.

2018 Buick Regal TourX vs. wagon competitors: How it compares on paper

Wed, Jan 31 2018

To the great joy of auto enthusiasts nationwide, wagons are back! Well, at least there's a few more of them. The latest is the 2018 Buick Regal TourX, which we just had our first drive of and found to actually be quite good with pleasant handling, solid power and plenty of space. But, how does the TourX compare to other cladded wagons? Well, let's dive into the specs and fire up the ol' spreadsheet maker for Buick Regal TourX vs Subaru Outback vs Audi A4 Allroad vs VW Alltrack vs Volvo V60 Cross Country. True, some are from mainstream brands and others are from luxury marques, but Buick straddles both realms, so it's appropriate to look at them all. Of course, there's more to these cars than just the numbers, but they're still important, and in the case of this class of crossover-aping wagons, can vary more than you'd expect. So check out the specs in the chart below, which are followed by more analysis and photos of each. Discover and compare other wagons and crossovers with our Car Finder and Compare tools. Engines and Transmissions When comparing powertrains, the Buick is far-and-away the winner as far as torque is concerned, and is in a nearly three-way tie for horsepower. Its 295 pound-feet of torque is 22 lb-ft more twist than the next-most-grunty Audi A4 Allroad. And in regards to power, the Buick's 250-horsepower engine is only down 6 hp to the most-powerful Subaru and its optional naturally aspirated flat-six, and just 2 hp less than the Audi. At the bottom of the pack is the Subaru Outback with the standard naturally aspirated flat-four, which only makes 174 hp and 174 lb-ft of torque. That may not seem too bad compared with the VW Golf Alltrack, which only makes 170 hp and 199 lb-ft of torque, but the VW is much lighter by between 200 and 300 pounds. Transmission-wise, there's quite a bit of variation in the group. The Regal TourX and the Volvo V60 Cross Country rely on eight-speed automatics, all Outbacks use CVTs, and the Alltrack and Allroad have dual-clutch automated manual transmissions with six and seven gears, respectively. But for people that want to shift for themselves, the only option is the Volkswagen, which offers a traditional six-speed manual transmission on the Golf Alltrack. Cargo and Interior Space One of the main reasons to buy a wagon is for the body style's large cargo capacity. And for the most space for things and stuff, you'll want to check out the Subaru and the Buick.
