1968 Convertible *** No Reserve *** No Reserve * Runs Great on 2040-cars
Madera, California, United States
1968 Volkswagen Convertible w/ dual port single carb 1600. Runs really good. It will do about 70 mph in 3rd gear. New clutch shifts very smooth through all gears w/ no pop outs. The paint in brand new but was not a very good job. Looks really good at a distance and in the pictures then it does up close and personal. The front windshield, hood, Empi rims, front and rear bumper all 4 tires and rear shocks are all brand new. Newer carpet with interior rustproofing/soundproofing was applied when the seats and carpet was professionally redone. Has low backs in it. It also has a brand new am/fm cd player that's in the glovebox. The engine runs good. The transmission shifts good. The car drives okay but will need some attention to the front end. Maybe just shocks or tie rod ends would be my guess. It's a California car with a clean title and current registration. All the lights and blinkers work. The speedo and odometer work. But I am certain the mileage has turned over. The horn was rewired and was working until it didn't want to shut off one day so it's disconnected. Now for the really bad part. The convertible top works opens and shuts but will eventually need to be replace. Its starting to show some wear. The heater/frame rails and battery tray are in really bad condition as you can see in the pictures everything else underneath seems to be pretty solid. ( please see pics ). I will be happy to answer any questions. This vehicle is not sold with any kind of warranty and it is being sold as is. So please ask any questions you may have. I have tried to explain everything to the best of my knowledge. Once the auction has ended a $500 deposit must be made within 48 hours. The remainder of the balance to be paid in full with in 3 days or if we make other arrangements. Any bidders with a feedback score of 10 or less must contact before placing a bid or your bid will be canceled. That doesn't mean you cant bid. It just means that I would like to speak with you before placing a bid. Thanks 4 looking and good luck if your bidding. Shipping and all costs related to shipping will be the winning bidders responsibility. I will assist if needed. Thank again |

Volkswagen drops "GTi" lawsuit against Suzuki
Tue, 02 Oct 2012Way back in 2004, Volkswagen took umbrage with Suzuki being granted permission to use the nameplate "SWIFT GTi" for a performance variant of its small-car offering (2012 equivalent seen here). Now, eight years and surely some very steep legal bills later, VW has finally dropped its claim against Suzuki.
The General Court of the European Union stated, back in March of this year, that Suzuki's GTi registration could not be confused with VW's "Golf GTI." Volkswagen had appealed that ruling, though has now reportedly called off the dogs. In fact, Germany's Die Welt reports that the appeal has been dead for several weeks now.
This news comes amongst continued arbitration acrimony between the two automakers, all revolving around VW's forced divestiture of nearly 20-percent stake it purchased in Suzuki some two years ago.
VW confirms Golf GTD diesel coming to US for 2016
Wed, 03 Jul 2013Part of the Volkswagen Golf recipe that has helped the car sell more than 30 million units in just under 40 years is the number of variants in which the hatchback is offered. Building on that range here in the US, Automotive News is reporting that we will finally be getting the sporty Golf GTD, likely as a 2016 model. It's the GTD, you'll recall, that crosses the performance abilities of the venerable GTI with a powerful and fuel-efficient diesel engine.
After speaking with Andreas Valbuena, Volkswagen product manager for the Golf, AN not only says that the GTD will for sale in the US in a couple years, it also estimates a baseline price of around $27,000, which would place it between the current pricing for the GTI and the Golf R. The GTD is launching in Europe this summer, but we won't be getting the seventh-generation Golf in the US for another year. The news about the performance diesel model isn't entirely unexpected - VW officials have been hinting at it for at least a year now, going so far as to import a sixth-generation model for media test drives on US soil, a task we happily took them up on last year.
The Mk VII GTD uses VW's 2.0-liter TDI engine with output increased to 184 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, allowing the car to sprint to 60 miles per hour in about seven seconds while returning more than 40 mpg in highway driving. We can't wait.
