HERE'S A REALLY RARE AND VERY CHARMING, RUST FREE LITTLE 1965 BUG ORDERED WITH A/C WHEN NEW.
I HAVE COLLECTED OLD CARS FOR THE LAST 44 YEARS AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN A 1965 BUG WITH ORIGINAL A/C BEFORE, NOT EVEN HERE IN SOUTHERN ARIZONA SO IT IS PROBABLY SUPER RARE.
AN ARIZONA CAR SINCE NEW IT WAS SOLD BY PIMA VW IN TUCSON AND I BOUGHT THE CAR 1 1/2 BLOCK FROM THERE RECENTLY!
THE VW BELONGED TO THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND IN THE MID 70'S THEIR DAUGHTER TOOK IT TO FLAGSTAFF IN NORTHERN ARIZONA TO ATTEND SCHOOL THERE. BUT JUST A LITTLE OVER A YEAR LATE IT WAS BACK IN TUCSON AGAIN AND IT HAS BEEN THERE EVER SINCE UNTIL I BOUGHT THE CAR AND BROUGHT IT TO PHOENIX.
THERE'S LOT'S OF DOCUMENTS WITH THE VW, IT SEEMS LIKE MOST WORK WAS DONE DURING THE 70'S, THE ENGINE WAS OVERHAULED, TRANS WAS REBUILT, THE CAR WAS PAINTED IN THE ORIGINAL COLOR ABOUT 30 YEARS AGO AND THE PAINT IS VERY THIN NOW.
I AM NOT SURE WHAT THE COLOR IS CALLED BUT IT IS A LIGHT BLUISH-GREEN COLOR, VERY NICE AND THE INTERIOR IS TUTONE BLUISH-GREEN. THE SEAT COVERS ARE VERY DRY, DOORPANELS ARE A LITTEL DRY BUT NOT TOO BAD, THE CARPET AND HEADLINER ARE DRY. I CALL IT RUST FREE BUT THERE IS VERY SOME RUST IN THE BATTERY TRAY, THAT IS IT.
ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO THE VW WAS SOLD TO THE SECOND OWNER AND HE SPENT $3000 ON MISC STUFF, A NEW CLUTCH ETC AND THE CAR HAS ONLY BEEN DRIVEN 6000 MILES SINCE THEN. THE LAST TIME IT WAS DRIVEN THE CABLE FOR THE ACCERATOR WAS STICKING SOME AND IT WAS PARKED AFTER THAT.
THE CAR RUNS AND DRIVES FINE, TIRES ARE NEW BUT THE CABLE WAS NEVER REPLACED SO THAT SHOULD PROBABLY BE DONE. I DON'T KNOW IF THE A/C WORKS OR NOT, I WAS TOLD THE CAR DOES NOT REALLY HAVE ENOUGH POWER FOR THE YORK A/C COMPRESSOR SO THE BELT WAS REMOVED. I ASSUME A MODERN COMPRESSOR WOULD BE A HUGE UPGRADE.
I HAD TO BUY THE VW TO GET A 1959 CITROEN I WANTED, IT WAS EITHER BOTH CARS OR NONE. I WILL TRY TO SELL THE VW AS IT SITS RIGHT NOW, IF IT DOES NOT SELL WE'LL GET A NEW INTERIOR KIT AND INSTALL IT AND PROBABLY ALSO REPLACE THE GAS CABLE AND SELL IT AFTER THAT IS DONE.
THE LIC PLATE DOES NOT BELONG TO THE CAR, I JUST PUT IT THERE BECAUSE IT LOOKS EMPTY WITHOUT A PLATE! IT CAN GO WITH THE CAR IF A BUYER WOULD LIKE BUT IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE VW.
THE VW IS AT MY HOME IN PHOENIX, ARIZONA. WE CAN ASSIST WITH ARRANGING TRANSPORT TO MOST ANYWHERE IN THE US OR EXPORT TO ANY COUNTRY.
PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE BIDDING AND PLEEEEEEEEESE DO NOT BID UNLESS YOU ARE WILLING AND ABLE TO PAY, SHOULD YOU BE THE WINNING BIDDER.
A DEPOSIT OF $2000 IS DUE WITHIN 24 HOURS OF THE END OF THE AUCTION, THE BALANCE WITHIN 7 DAYS.

Recharge Wrap-up: meet the '66 ZelectricBug, DOE announces home-scale H2 refueling competition
Thu, Oct 30 2014The US Department of Energy has launched the $1 million H2 Refuel H-Prize competition to create small- to medium-scale hydrogen refueling systems. The systems could be home-scale systems that produce hydrogen using utilities at home for refueling, or medium-scale systems to supply locations such as retail centers, apartment complexes or small fleets. The DOE sees hydrogen fueling infrastructure as the biggest obstacle to fuel-cell vehicle adoption and putting the production and refueling in the hands of the consumer could be a way around that obstacle. Read more at Energy.gov and at Green Car Congress. Hyundai has announced a new six-speed automatic transmission with integrated electric motor for new hybrid models. The new configuration puts most of the hybrid powertrain components within the transmission, and the torque converter has been eliminated. The new engine clutch reduces drag with fewer clutch discs, and the mechanical oil pump has been replaced with an electric one. The result is fewer energy losses, improved efficiency and greater mileage. Read more at Hybrid Cars in Reuters or in the press release from Hyundai below. Zelectric Motors has completed its electric 1966 Volkswagen Beetle rebuild, and has put it up for sale. The '66 ZelectricBug, as it's called, is powered by a 50-kW electric motor and 20-kWh battery pack, and offers 120 pound-feet of torque. It has a range of 80 miles, and is capable of at least 100 mph. The stock transmission has been rebuilt. It also has some new goodies like high-performance sway bars, custom shocks, and LED lighting. The '66 ZelectricBug is priced at $45,000. Check it out in the video below and read more at Hybrid Cars. A startup called Alevo says it will build a billion-dollar factory in North Carolina to make longer-lasting lithium iron phosphate batteries. Alevo has purchased an old cigarette factory in Concord for $68.5 million, but it's unclear whether or not the company has secured the $1 billion investment to begin producing batteries. The company plans to create 2,500 to 6,000 jobs and produce several gigawatts worth of batteries per year, which is a tall order for a relatively unknown company. Read more at Gigaom, or in Alevo's press release below. Tesla owners in Shanghai will be exempt from the city's $12,000 registration fee. About 400 people have already received the free license plates in Shanghai, where the government wants to encourage alternative fuel vehicles.
Audi, Fiat squabbling over numbers and letters
Mon, Jan 19 2015There have been rumors and speculation and prognostications about a Nissan Juke- and Mini Cooper-fighting Audi Q2 since 2012. There have been the same for a performance-oriented Q4 since 2011, perhaps previewed by the TT Offroad concept shown last year at the Beijing Motor Show. Turns out that those two alphanumeric combos are the only ones missing from the series Q1 to Q9 in Audi's trademark stable, and the Ingolstadt company wants to get them to make its badge sequence and crossover lineup complete. But Fiat owns them, and rumor is, CEO Sergio Marchionne appears to have no interest in selling them. Fiat has used the Q2 and Q4 like trim badges, identifying whether a company product has two-wheel or all-wheel drive. They did it with the Alfa Romeo 159 sedan, and they do it now on the Maserati Quattroporte S and Ghibli S Q4 sedans. Car magazine says Marchionne "may not be categorically opposed to selling the rights," but he absolutely won't do it to any fiefdom in the Volkswagen empire, which would leave Audi a jilted suitor. Why is Sergio being so serious? VW Group CEO Ferdinand Piech first starting waving torches on the bridge between the two companies when he said Alfa Romeo could sell four times as many cars if Volkswagen owned it, then burned the bridge when it continued to publicize its desire to buy Alfa Romeo. VW followed that up by throwing salt on the land around the destroyed bridge with its aggressive pricing in Europe during the worst of the car sales slump there, which Marchionne said was causing a "bloodbath." VW's final flourish was to set the river itself on fire, when a press officer said Marchionne wasn't qualified to head the European Automotive Manufacturers Association (ACEA) and VW would quit the organization if he did take the top spot. That is why, putting it optimistically, Audi looks to have a grim chance of getting the Q2 and Q4 marques from the Italian. So long as he is in power, at least: Marchionne said he's walking away from the job in 2018. Audi might have a better chance bending the knee to, and generously rewarding, his successor. VW and Renault end talks to develop affordable EV, sources say
Fri, May 17 2024PARIS/BERLIN – Volkswagen has walked away from talks with Renault to jointly develop an affordable electric version of the Twingo subcompact car, three sources familiar with the situation said, in a setback for the EU carmakers' efforts to fend off Chinese rivals. The collapse of negotiations could mean the German carmaker may have to go it alone in developing its own affordable EV. Renault will continue designing its electric Twingo, scheduled to hit the market in 2026. Both had hoped that sharing the work would cut costs that represent a key hurdle for European carmakers in the face of cheaper cars from China. Volkswagen broke off discussions mainly because Renault had wanted to build the car in one of its plants at a time when VW is seeking to fully utilize its European production network, one of the sources said. Ampere, Renault's EV operation overseeing the Twingo program, declined to comment. A spokesperson for Volkswagen also declined to comment on the talks between the companies but said that the German carmaker was still studying its options on cheap EVs. The companies "did not succeed in finding an agreement" after several months of negotiations, one of the sources said. Another source said that an agreement had been very close, but that VW walked away from the talks and has decided to develop its own car. The sources declined to be named because the talks are confidential. VW sources said a decision on the EV plan is expected within weeks. Thomas Schaefer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand, has said he wants to launch a lower-priced EV by 2027. The second source said Renault would continue work on the Twingo without VW, but also remained open to other partners, for instance from the alliance with Nissan and Mitsubishi. It is also a blow for Renault CEO Luca de Meo's hopes for greater cooperation between European carmakers against their Chinese competitors, akin to Airbus which has stakeholders and operations across European countries. The VW-Renault tie-up for the Twingo could have formed the "basis" of an Airbus for autos, the second source said. China's automakers, the world's top EV producers, are making fast inroads in the European market, pressuring incumbents like Renault and VW to cut costs and speed up the time it takes to bring a new model to market. European automakers are aiming to produce smaller EVs that sell below 20,000 euros ($21,686) to help them compete with Chinese brands like BYD.
