This isn't a car that could be driving in a weekend..... This is almost complete and original wit the exception of the repaint, the decklid and a fender."

Up for your consideration is this awesome 1956 VW Oval Ragtop.Originally was a Diamond Green? Clear Title. This car has been sitting outside for a long time. It is all there. . At some point the car had a janky exterior repaint that has a excellent patina look to it. The pan from the seat rails back are flint stone material. The front floors are thin with smaller holes. The heater channels have alot of surface rust as do the door pillars towards the front of the car. I didnt find any holes but I'm sure if you dug enough you would have them. The bottoms of the doors have rust. The front apron where the wheel well for the spare tire is also flint stone material. The front and rear aprons are fairly straight but the over rider holes in the front are elongated out.The rear deck lid is not the correct w deck lid. The right rear fender has a nice dent in the side along with a crack and both rear over rider holes beat up. I have 2 rear bumpers that are not pictured that go with the car. There is rust in front of the ragtop assembly towards the windshield. The 36 hp motor is locked up from sitting. The ragtop hardware is all there minus the actual fabric.Wiring looks un hacked. Most all of the interior is there. (including the Motorola radio!)In my opinion this car needs to be separated from the pan. Completely rebuild the pan, running gear brakes wheels tires to your liking. All of the existing body issues could be fixed and blended to the existing look of the car. ( I would source a W deck lid for this) I would clear coat over the top remarry the body and pan and have a cool cruiser. The interior could be left ratty or restored. You would have one helluva patina cruiser! Interestingly in the front area where the vin and vw badge is some yellow writing behind the tag that's still legible perhaps from  the factory? I think it says USA special Order?  This is a really neat old car that deserves life again. I will help with shipping at buyers expense. Please ask any and all questions prior to bidding. I can assist in shipping at YOUR cost. The car or title will not leave my possession until all payment is received. I reserve the right to end the auction as the car is for sale locally. Thanks for your time and buy this baby!

Volkswagen looking to acquire Proton, Lotus?

Thu, 26 Jul 2012

Let's say you're an automaker bent on world domination looking to grow your sales. That's going to have you looking at Asian markets, because that's where some of the biggest growth has been, and that's exactly what Volkswagen is doing as it considers making another run at Malaysia's Proton.
Reuters reports that Volkswagen is interested in at least a partial stake, if not a controlling interest in Lotus-parent Proton as a way to continue a production presence in the region without having to build its own factory.
Volkswagen already builds the Passat in a DRB-HICOM facility in Pekan, Malaysia, and plans are in place to build the Jetta and Polo there, as well. With both southeast Asia and its relationship with Proton figuring so importantly in Volkswagen's plans for expansion, buying into Proton can help ensure stability. Volkswagen is being tight-lipped about the whole idea, but CEO Martin Winterkorn did recently say, "it's our clear goal to continue the successful (expansion) course of past years with great dynamics and stability," which sounds an awful lot like deals are on the table to smooth the path to further growth.

VW's credit ratings could take a beating

Fri, Sep 25 2015

In addition to a significant drop in its share price already, Volkswagen's diesel emissions scandal is continuing to have major financial repercussions on the German automaker. According to The Detroit News, credit rating agencies like Standard & Poor's and Moody's changed their forecasts on the company to negative, and Fitch has considered doing so, as well. Volkswagen appears to have the money to cover the costs of this ordeal, but the agencies question the effect that this has in the long term. "Moody's concern, however, is that Volkswagen's alleged breach of US environment rules and, especially, the process by which that breach occurred, will have an adverse effect on its reputation and credibility within the global passenger car markets," the company wrote in a note to investors, according to The Detroit News. VW has initially set aside $7.25 billion to fix things, but the potential shakeup of top executives has caused some investor uncertainty, too. The actual costs for VW to deal with this scandal are still unknown. In the US, the Department of Justice has begun a criminal investigation, and with other automakers the government has settled for $900 million against General Motors and $1.2 billion against Toyota. Attorneys general in 29 states have started looking deeper, according to The Detroit News, and regulators in Europe, South Korea, and Canada have commenced their own probes, as well. Related Video:

VW's Winterkorn to stick around through at least 2018

Thu, Sep 3 2015

Volkswagen may yet to have found a new chairman, but it's not about to get rid of its chief executive any time soon. The German automaker has announced its intention to renew Martin Winterkorn's contract through the end of 2018. That is, assuming that the Supervisory Board heeds the recommendation of its own Executive Committee when the full 20-member board meets on September 25. 68-year-old Winterkorn joined the Volkswagen Group back in 1993 after a decade and a half at Bosch. He was named head of Audi in 2002, and chairman of the Board of Management (effectively the chief executive officer) of the entire Volkswagen Group in 2007. Just a few months ago he faced off against Ferdinand Piech – chairman of the company's supervisory board and grandson of Ferdinand Porsche – that resulted in Winterkorn's victory and Piech's resignation. The executive committee's endorsement, then, is effectively a vote of confidence in Winterkorn's leadership. It still leaves unresolved the question of who will ultimately take over as chairman to succeed Piech. Winterkorn was touted for a potential promotion, but if the supervisory board renews his contract – currently set to expire next year – he'll be staying right where he is and a new chairman will need to be found. The chair is currently filled on an interim basis by Berthold Huber, former head of the union that was instrumental in Piech's ousting. Wolfsburg, 02 September 2015 Resolution of the Executive Committee of the Volkswagen AG Supervisory Board The Executive Committee of the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen AG unanimously agreed a resolution for submission to the Supervisory Board at its meeting on September 25, 2015 under which a new contract as Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG for a term until December 31, 2018 should be concluded with Professor Dr. Martin Winterkorn. "Together with Professor Martin Winterkorn at the helm we will continue on our successful path of recent years and systematically implement the goals of Strategy 2018", Berthold Huber, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen AG, said.
