!!!1955 VW "OVAL" BEETLE   RUST FREE SURVIVOR!!!!

I am selling my 1955 VW Beetle. This is the "Oval" Model, meaning the back window shape is oval and small. The car is in mostly original condition and is totally rust free. I bought the car last year fully intending to keep it for the long haul but simply have neither the room or time to due it justice. To keep such a gem in storage would be wrong in my opinion, so I am offering it to some lucky collector or VW enthusiast. The previous owner had the car for 20 years and while he only put about 500 miles on it during that time, he did buy as many options as he possibly could, which makes it really interesting and unique. I could strip the options and probably get a couple thousand dollars for them alone, but will include them as long as the car meets reserve. The items in the roof rack are not included though.

I do not profess to be an expert but do know a fair amount about these cars and certainly know what these ovals are worth, so please do not try and low ball me. My inspection tells me that the engine, transmission etc., are all original to the car and the previous owner stated the same. I do not, however, swear by it, since I do not know how to check it but can give the interested party all pertinent numbers to trace, if they choose to. I also can not find any significant bondo anywhere, so assume that the body parts are also original to the car. Everything is steel with no fiberglass knock off parts. The floor pans are super solid and no hole at the battery either. Possibly they were replaced but the job was done so professionally that I can not tell. The black paint also appears to be original since I see no over spray anywhere and some fading apparent but shines up like new.

The little bug drives fantastic, like all properly tuned 36 HP motors do. Purrs like a sewing machine and with the brand new battery, it starts first try every time. Still 6 volt system, so unmolested in that regard. All glass is original except possibly the front windshield. The mohair head liner is definitely original and in great shape although a bit dark from age. Interior is all vinyl, which I believe was replaced back in the 60's but is in great shape with no rips or tears and no fading. Transmission shifts easily and brakes all work properly. Tires are like new and are wide white Atlas Radials with plenty of tread remaining. Chrome and stainless are all in very good condition, although the door handles are showing some age.

The interior has a set of rope trays below the steering wheel and above the visors for storage. The motorola radio works fine, as does the heat, blinkers, horn, wipers etc. Rare bug deflector on the hood actually does work! Although I have driven it sparingly, I did have it up to highway speeds with no problems to note. However, due to the age of the car and the fact it has been used very lightly for many many years, I would not advise a long drive to it's new home and would trailer it myself. Naturally the vehicle has no warranty and is sold as is.

Please note that Connecticut is a NON TITLE STATE. What this means is that no amount of pleading, plotting, crying, begging etc., can produce a title. All vehicles over 25 years of age are sold with a CT Bill of Sale and I can get it notarized if necessary. I have sold several vehicles over the years both in the US and over seas, with ZERO Problems, so do not let this scare you. I mention it upfront so there are no issues at the end of the sale. Please check with your local DMV and you will see they have no issues with the situation.

If you have less than 5 feedbacks please contact me prior to bidding or I will cancel your bid. This is serious business and I have no time or patience with games. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer but I will assist in any way possible. For our international buyers, please have your shipping arrangements in place prior to bidding as I will not hold the car endlessly while you try and get it moved. I can hold the car for a  reasonable amount of time with the vehicle paid in full if needed. Payment accepted will be certified/bank check or wire transfer. (Pay Pal is okay for deposit).

I have poor mind reading skills, so please ask questions and I will do my best to answer. I can also try and take additional pictures if you need but the vehicle is inside, so might be tight. Best of luck with this true gem. If you have been looking at them, you know what they go for. I would suspect that many of you have never seen one this old, so take a good look at the differences to the more modern ones and bid to win. My reserve is very fair as I am not looking to get rich, just trying to recover my investment, which will most likely leave you with a great price. Thanks for viewing my ad.

Volkswagen's 261-mpg hand-built XL1 headed for Geneva

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

After years of rumors, development and testing, the Volkswagen XL1 is finally about to become a reality. The project that began life as a daring 1-Liter concept car in 2002, will finally get its production-ready curtain call at the Geneva Motor Show in just a few weeks.
As soon as it hits the streets, the two-seat XL1 will instantly become the most fuel-efficient and most aerodynamic production car in the world. The car uses a plug-in hybrid system to achieve mind-blowing consumption of just 0.9 liters of diesel fuel consumed every 100 kilometers (and average of roughly 261 miles per gallon). Plus, the XL1 can go up to 50 kilometers on its battery power alone. Coefficient of drag is a miniscule 0.189, thanks to a tiny frontal area and an obviously slippery shape.
XL1 power comes from a two-cylinder diesel motor connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, while the 20 kW electric motor is fed by a lithium-ion battery. Both combine to give the XL1 performance figures that are, while not stirring, not shabby considering its extreme frugality: 0-62 miles per hour comes up in 12.7 seconds and top speed is nearly 146 mph.

Suzuki and VW finalize their divorce

Thu, Feb 11 2016

The rocky divorce between Suzuki and Volkswagen is finally over after working its way through the International Court of Arbitration since 2011, according to the Japan Times. In the final settlement to end the companies' disputes, Suzuki agreed to pay VW an undisclosed amount for not living up to the agreement to use the German automaker's diesel engines. While they won't disclose the exact sum, Suzuki said in a statement that the money "will not have any significant impact" on its 2015 fiscal year results, which will end in March. The arbitration court took the biggest step to end this transcontinental partnership in August 2015 when the body ruled VW needed sell its 19.9-percent stake in Suzuki. However, the Japanese company wasn't entirely off the hook because VW was still allowed to sue for damages over the diesel engine issue. This latest decision finally clears up that dispute. Like most marriages, the union between VW and Suzuki began with stars in both parties' eyes. The Germans paid $2.8 billion to buy 19.9 percent of the Japanese company in December 2009. VW was supposed to get greater access to the auto market in India, and Suzuki hoped to capitalize on access to its partner's advanced technology. By 2011, rumors started percolating that things were contentious behind closed doors. VW allegedly tried to assert control over Suzuki's operations, and the Japanese company reportedly wasn't happy with its access to the German tech. Suzuki even bought diesel engines from Fiat, rather than VW. Later that year, company CEO Osamu Suzuki announced he would end the alliance, and they started working through arbitration. Notification Concerning Resolution of Arbitration by Settlement As Suzuki has reached a settlement regarding the arbitration that Suzuki filed with the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce on 24 November 2011, Suzuki informs you of the following: 1. History from the Request for Arbitration to the Settlement As announced in the "Notification Concerning Arbitration Award" dated 30 August 2015, the Tribunal indicated that it would address the issue of alleged damages arising from Suzuki's breach of the agreement claimed by Volkswagen AG ("VW") in a further stage of the arbitration proceedings. Suzuki reached a settlement with VW in regard to such arbitration proceedings on 10 February 2016. Accordingly, the arbitration proceedings have been concluded. 2.
