The time has come to let go of my reliable buddy.  My good friend.  My truck.  It has served me very well and taken me to many interesting places over the 150,000 miles we spent together.  Instead of telling you everything that's great about this truck (Google can tell you that), I will let you in on all that is wrong with it perhaps with a short narrative.  The truck has several dings and dents (All of which are pictured)  either caused mysteriously or by one of 3 minor accidents.  The front bumper was hit by one of the many fools on the road.  As I waited at a stop sign, the woman in front of me decided she was too far into the intersection and popped her boat of a car in reverse without ever looking behind her...and banged into me.  She hopped out of her boat and began apologizing profusely with her blonde hair and Russian accent.  Since the damage was cosmetic, I let it go.  The next accident happened one winter morning on my way to work.  I pulled out onto the road and as I put her into 4th I realized I was no longer gripping the pavement, but was sliding freely into oncoming traffic, spinning slowly.  I finally came to a stop in the opposite lane after spinning roughly 200 degrees.  Lucky for me, it was so early that there was no traffic in the opposite lane.  All was well...so I thought.  Unfortunately the car behind me hit the same ice patch and also began sliding freely until she came to a stop by knocking into my front driver side headlight.  It didn't stop there.  Many more cars kept piling on.  Ironically, I was the only driver not at fault.  Although there is a police record of this, I left my insurance company out of it.  The headlight was replaced but because of the dent below the lamp, it does not fit as snugly as it once did.  The final accident was all me.  I backed into a street sign while leaving a parking spot.  This left a nice semi-circle dent on the back passenger side corner of the truck.  There are other minor dings and dents but luckily for you, I have no explanation for them.
Over the years some things stopped working.  The radio and cassette player stopped working long ago.  The windshield wiper fluid leaks.  This began shortly after having the fuel filter replaced.  My mechanic likely cracked the reservoir but it may be a loose seal.  The driver side door doesn't always want to open with the key.  One or more pins in the lock must be sticking.  I have loosened them and gotten the key to work but they eventually get stuck again.  Worst case scenarios...the lock will need to be replaced or you will get in the habit of opening the truck from the passenger side.  The check engine light has been on for about 6 years.  Once in a while it goes off.  It stayed off for a few weeks straight after having the catalytic converter replaced.  The emergency break light stays on too.  Even when the emergency break is off. And of course the windshield wiper fluid light is on.  I recently had the wheel bearings and ball joints replaced on the front passenger side.  It is logical to assume they will need to be replaced on the driver side eventually.  If that becomes the case, there will be plenty of warning.  For a few weeks prior to having them replaced, it felt as if the power steering had gone.  The seats have some staining and discoloration.  There is some glue markings on the tonneau cover in the pictures.  The cover is in great shape.  No rips or tears. I put the tape on the cover while visiting a friend in a high crime area in order to deter any potential theft.  I will have the glue cleaned off by the time the truck is picked up.  White paint spilled on the bed liner as can be seen in the photos.  Otherwise, the truck is in great shape.  It runs beautifully.  I am only passing it on because my brother gave me his Subaru...and I couldn't pass up all wheel drive.  Feel free to message me with any questions.  Should you be the happy future owner of my truck, payment must be made in full within a week of the auction's close.
Thanks,
Keith

Toyota sells six of 10 of hybrids in California

Wed, 31 Jul 2013

In an apparent shot back at Ford's increasing market share of electrified vehicles and claim that it accepts more Prius trade-ins for its own hybrids than any other car, Toyota has flexed a muscle and played the numbers game to put the Blue Oval in its place.
Leaning on its hybrid market dominance in California, the Japanese automaker stated that six out of 10 hybrids sold in the Golden State are Toyota models. And it keeps coming: Year-to-date through May 2013, Toyota sold five times more hybrids than Ford. One of every two hybrids in California is a Prius model. In addition, Toyota notes that it has sold 1.5 million Prius vehicles in the US, 90-percent of which are still on the road today.

Recharge Wrap-up: Japan supports hydrogen, Fools against fuel cells, BlueIndy controversy

Wed, Jun 25 2014

Japan hopes to expand the use of hydrogen energy by subsidizing fuel cell vehicles, according to The Japan News. The trade ministry plans to include the subsidies in its 2015 budget to coincide with the expected launch of Toyota's Fuel Cell Vehicle and the Honda FCEV hydrogen car. By jump-starting purchases of hydrogen cars, Japan hopes that innovation and mass-production will get a boost and the cost of fuel cell vehicles will be competitive with gasoline-powered models by the year 2025. Japan plans to have 100 hydrogen fueling locations operating by March 2016, and wants to halve the cost of building those stations by 2020. The amount of the subsidies has not yet been set. Investing website The Motley Fool isn't quite as optimistic as Japan about hydrogen cars, and is instead bullish about Tesla Motors. The Fool points to Tesla's strong stock performance, and predicts future growth will come from more car models in the future - starting with the Model X - as well as the company's proposed Gigafactory for manufacturing batteries. If Tesla's charging technology continues to catch on, that only improves its financial prospects. The article has some harsh words, however, for hydrogen: "Fuel cells are an inferior automotive technology and for fundamental efficiency, cost, and infrastructure reasons always will be mere compliance gimmicks." Yeesh. As part of a program to build charging stations for the Indianapolis EV carsharing service BlueIndy, utility company Indianapolis Power & Light (IPL) wants to raise its electricity rates an average of 44 cents a month per residential customer to help pay for its share of the project. State consumer advocacy agency Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor and consumer watchdog group Citizens Action Coalition oppose the plan, according to Greenfield, Indiana's Daily Reporter. The BlueIndy program, which is a partnership between the city of Indianapolis and battery manufacturer Bollore Group, will provide up to 500 cars for rent at 25 charging sites around the city. Those who oppose the rate hike call IPL a monopoly and say the amount of the increase is not allowed under state law and that the program wouldn't benefit working class and low-income citizens. A hearing regarding IPL's proposal is scheduled for July 23. A Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will run the 2014 Asia Cross Country Rally, Hybrid Cars reports. The rally covers 1,367 miles of woods, swamps and mountains from Thailand to Cambodia.

2018 Ford Expedition vs other big SUVs: How it compares on paper

Fri, Nov 10 2017

With our Alex Kierstein rightly impressed in his first-drive review of the new 2018 Ford Expedition, we decided to dig a little deeper into the numbers, and we came up with the spreadsheet below to highlight how the new 2018 Expedition compares on paper to its main full-size SUV competitors: the 2018 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban (and therefore the 2018 GMC Yukon), 2018 Toyota Sequoia and 2018 Nissan Armada. We also threw in the new, even bigger 2018 Chevrolet Traverse since, as you'll see, its massive dimensions should put it on the radar for anyone who needs loads of passenger and cargo space but doesn't care as much about towing. A few notes about the chart above. First, the 6.2-liter V8 that's included with the new-for-2018 Tahoe RST trim level is the standard engine on the GMC Yukon Denali. You can apply most of the Tahoe's numbers to the entire Yukon and Yukon XL lineup. Second, though we highlighted categories where the Traverse led, we also highlighted the runner-up full-size SUV, since this was ultimately about that segment. Traverse numbers are broadly applicable to the new Buick Enclave.
