I PURCHASED THIS SUPRA ON 3/20/1987, IT HAS BEEN IN THE BARN SINCE MARCH 1998. I BROUGHT IT OUT WITH ALL INTENTIONS OF RESTORING IT BACK TO THE ORIGINAL CONDITION, BUT MY HONEY DO LIST IS SO LONG THAT I WILL NEVER GET IT DONE, SO IT NEEDS TO GO TO A GOOD HOME. THE ENGINE, TRANSMISSION AND REAR ARE IN FINE SHAPE, THERE IS NO RUST AT ALL ON THE UNDERCARRIAGE, WHAT IT NEEDS TO RUN IS A FUEL PUMP (120.00) AND A CHANGE OF GAS. IT WILL RUN IF FUEL IS SPRAYED INTO THE INTAKE, AND IT RAN VERY WELL WHEN IT WAS PUT INTO THE BARN. THE EXHAUST IS NEW, ALONG WITH THE SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES, EVERYTHING ELSE NEEDS TO BE GONE OVER AND CLEANED UP. IT ALSO NEEDS 2 FRONT FENDERS 125.00 EACH AND A LOT OF TLC, OR YOU CAN RESTORE IT BACK TO IT'S ORIGINAL CONDITION AND HAVE ONE GREAT CAR FROM THE "THRILLING DAYS OF YESTERYEAR" ALL ORIGINAL PARTS ARE THERE EXCEPT FOR THE RADIO AND ANTENNA, BUT THE BOTH WORK WELL, WHEELS ARE ORIGINAL AND IN GOOD CONDITION AND TIRES HAVE 80% TIRES, BUT HAVE BEEN SITTING SINCE 1998, THIS IS A VERY EASY RESTORE AND WOULD MAKE A GREAT FATHER AND SON PROJECT AS YOU CAN TAKE IT TO ANY LEVEL YOU WANT, OF COURSE IT IS BEING SOLD AS IS, AND I DO HAVE IT FOE SALE LOCALLY. THE RESERVE IS VERY LOW FOR THIS HISTORIC ONE OF A KIND BACK IN THE DAY HOT ROD, I WOULD BE WILLING TO HELP LOAD AND MAYBE EVEN DELIVER THE CAR WITH THE ARRANGED AGREEMENT WITH THE NEW BUYER, PLEAS CALL WITH QUESTIONS, 301-674-3400 COME SEE IT IN SOUTHERN MARYLAND ZIP 20659 OR EMAIL ME A WRAPPEDVEGA@AOL.COM THANKS FOR LOOKING RICK

Dubai claims debut of Toyota GT86 sedan concept

Sun, 03 Nov 2013

Typically, when the organizers of an auto show reveal that a new car will debut at their show, we take notice. But this particular claim from the Dubai International Motor Show ought to be taken with a grain of salt.
As our compatriots at AutoGuide discovered, the Facebook page for the Emirates auto expo includes a post with an interesting claim: that a sedan based on the Toyota GT86 (known in the US as the Scion FR-S) will debut at the show. The Facebook post is accompanied by the image above, purporting to show the concept in question.
The strange part is that the organizers claim the four-door GT86 concept will make its "regional unveil" at the Dubai show, which would seem to indicate that the concept in question would make its international debut at an earlier show. Considering that the doors open in Dubai on Tuesday, that seems increasingly unlikely. All of this begs the question, If this isn't actually a four-door GT86, what might it be?

More head-up displays are coming to a dashboard near you

Tue, Feb 27 2018

With the exception of Apple products — $1,000 for a freakin' smartphone? — one great thing about tech is you typically get more for your money with each passing year. This is particularly true with automotive tech: Features like driver assists and surround-view cameras that were once exclusively available in luxury vehicles now come standard even on some economy cars. The same thing is slowly happening with head-up displays (HUD). For example, the 10-inch HUD in the 2018 Toyota Camry is one of the largest and best HUDs I've seen in any car. And a big improvement on the much smaller HUD in the latest Toyota Prius. Mazda is another mainstream brand that offers HUDs in several of its vehicles. But instead of embedding expensive components in the dash and using a special windshield, the HUDs in the Mazda3 and Mazda6 use a thin plastic lens that folds down when not in use. MINI has a similar solution, but this low-cost approach has limits in terms of size and position of the images compared to traditional HUDs that use the windshield as a screen. We're also starting to see similar lens-based aftermarket options that can be added to any car. Last year I tested a portable HUD called Navdy that taps into a car's OBD-II port to provide info on speed and RPM and uses built-in GPS and Google Maps to show the surrounding area, display speed limits and route you to your destination. Navdy also connects to an Android or iOS smartphone via Bluetooth to display data from phone calls, texts and music playing on a connected device, and it's simple to use and easily visible in almost any lighting condition. While Navdy is still available online, late last year the company ran into financial difficulties, and product support has been halted. I recently tested a new portable HUD called Hudly that's not quite fully baked and falls short of Navdy because it doesn't tap into an OBD-II port. Since a companion smartphone app for Hudly isn't scheduled to launch until next month, for now it only mirrors what's on a smartphone. So it can be used for nav and other apps, and its features are very limited. Between automakers adding HUDs in more reasonably priced cars and the aftermarket filling in the gaps for existing vehicle owners with add-ons, the technology is becoming more prevalent and affordable. And it's also getting better.

Is 120 miles just about perfect for EV range?

Tue, Apr 15 2014

When it comes to battery-electric vehicles, our friend Brad Berman over at Plug In Cars says 40 miles makes all the difference in the world. That's the approximate difference in single-charge range between the battery-electric version of the Toyota RAV4 and the Nissan Leaf. It's also the difference between the appearance or disappearance of range anxiety. The 50-percent battery increase has zapped any lingering range anxiety, Berman writes. The RAV4 EV possesses a 40-kilowatt-hour pack, compared to the 24-kWh pack in the Leaf. After factoring in differences in size, weight and other issues, that means the compact SUV gets about 120 miles on a single charge in realistic driving conditions, compared to about 80 miles in the Leaf. "The 50 percent increase in battery size from Leaf to RAV has zapped any lingering range anxiety," Berman writes. His observations further feed the notion that drivers need substantial backup juice in order to feel comfortable driving EVs. Late last year, the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), along with the Consumers Union estimated that about 42 percent of US households could drive plug-in vehicles with "little or no change" in their driving habits, and that almost 70 percent of US commuters drive fewer than 60 miles per weekday. That would imply that a substantial swath of the country should be comfortable using a car like the Leaf as their daily driver - with first-quarter Leaf sales jumping 46 percent from a year before, more Americans certainly are. Still, the implication here is that EV sales will continue to be on the margins until an automaker steps up battery capabilities to 120 or so miles while keeping the price in the $30,000 range. Think that's a reasonable goal to shoot for?
