1987 Toyota Supra Turbo Thanks for checking out my Rare, 1987 Toyota Supra Turbo. These cars are very hard to find in this condition, extremely low original miles, 60,280 - original paint, original interior (very few built with factory leather), a true survivor, 230hp Twin Cam Intercooled Turbo, 5spd, Rear Wheel Drive, TEMS, with full independent suspension. The original owner, was in the US Navy, and he had it for 5 years. He loved this car, he purchased Toyota Supra Seat covers and Supra car cover at dealer, which are included with the sale, rear louvers. He also had Toyota install a HKS Turbo Timer. This car also is unique because it is a coupe, non targa, the coupes are very desirable hard to find, because they were stiffer, and much better for really getting out and driving, targa's had a lot of body flex. His best friend said, if you ever sell that Supra, I want to own it. In 1992 he decided to sell it with around 40K on it and handed his friend the keys. The second owner used the car sparingly, he did drive it, he did enjoy it, it is not a trailer queen, but it is a very nice example of one of these cars. He passed away a few years ago, this car was his pride and joy, really this was his trophy on the mantel. I was very fortunate to have this Supra parked in my garage. This car runs and drives excellent, super low miles, factory 5 spd, Independent Suspension with factory TEMS tuned suspension option, factory AC - BLOWS ICE COLD, this is truly an amazing car. Little History on the Toyota M Engine and Supra lineage. This the first year that Toyota put the Turbo on the M Series engine, very sought after. Configurations of the M series engine, date back all the way to 1965. Toyota's first really special world class super car, was the 1967-70 Toyota 2000GT, which was a very powerful straight 6 engine, called the 2M. The prototype car started in 1965. Carroll Shelby actually built 2- 1968 2000GT's for SCCA racing. They only built 351 one of these 2000GT's. The Toyota Supra, is a direct continuation of these cars. The original Supra, was built off the Celica Mark 1. In 1986, Toyota changed the name to Supra, and the 7M-GE 3.0 engine arrived at this time. For 1987, Toyota decided to do something very special to these cars, this Option was long awaited for, the 7M-GTE Turbo. They wanted to compete with some of the legends of the 80's like the Corvette, Porsche, RX7 Turbo, Mustang GT/Saleen. These cars are very special, very hard to find. They put out 230HP, 30 more HP then the base 3.0 engine 7M-GE. I grew up falling in love with cars in the 80's when I was in high school, one of my best friends mom, traded in her 86 Supra, for the new 87 Supra Turbo, when I saw it at their house the day after they brought it home, I was just in awe, what a beautiful car, and the test ride, can't believe they let me rid in the passenger seat, it was a 16 year old dream, what an amazing car. I obviously buy and sell classics for a living, but I buy and my memories, the cars I wish I could have back in the day, and this is one of those cars. I have been selling classic cars here on eBay since 2003, 12 years now, with around 500 classic cars sold over the internet, with 100% Feedback. What I love about these old cars, is that I get to own some of my favorite cars one at a time, I have turned this passion into a business, but for me it is an awesome time to enjoy the cars themselves. It has been such a joy to do business with people all over the world. I have sold multiple cars to many buyers all over from Europe, Dubai, Australia, Japan, Brazil, just to name a few. It has always been a pleasure, getting to know other car enthusiast all over the Continent, especially some that have become very good friends of mine because of our love for cars. I look forward to doing business here on ebay for many years to come, and look forward to meeting some other like minded classic car nuts like myself. If you would like to call me and talk about the car, that would be great, would love to help you out, if you want to call and talk about cars, it would be my pleasure, I am on the hunt for any Interesting classics, please give me a call, 503-910-2085 - Jason. I hope everyone had a great Christmas and which everyone a Happy New Year, were 8 days in, and enjoying 2015 already!!!! CONDITION This car is in amazing condition, it still has all of its original paint, and it looks very nice. It is called Dark Blue Pearl, very nice color on a car like this. The paint is original, in very nice condition for being over 28 years old. There are no dings on the car, very straight, all the panels obviously line up perfectly. Absolutely no accidents. As you look through the pictures you will see all the VIN tags on the doors, hood, rear hatch etc. There are some minor rock chips on the hood, and front bumper cover. There are small rock chips along the rockers, very common, because they flare out a little bit. The flares at the bottom of the rear quarters, have suffered the worse, but since the car is dark, you don't notice it to much unless you look close, but there are a lot of rock chips on those to panels. I guess if one wanted to, they do come off, and you could have them repainted. The car is original, so personally I would want to keep it original as much as I could. There are a couple spots were a larger rock chips have been touched up. There was one larger chip on the drivers quarter panel that has been touched up, the size of an erasure head. There is another smaller on on the passenger side that is hard to get in a picture. Overall, very clean car, absolutely NO RUST, really amazing, but shows some minor road wear, but that said the car is 28 years old, and probably one of the best original Turbo's around. The undercarriage of the car is amazing. Factory undercoating is in nice shape, no rust issues. I cleaned off a few components underneath, and the paint on them are excellent, you can see there is no corrosion, you will see some pictures were I did this. If someone spent a weekend cleaning underneath the car, getting dust and road wear off, it was be more amazing then it already is. Overall, the exterior condition of the car is in great shape for its age, it has been driven and enjoyed, and has normal, wear and tear, but looks very nice, and is in amazing condition for its age. The interior is amazing on this car. The seats are near perfect, they have had very nice seat covers on them since day one, that were bought at Toyota. The seats are factory leather, very few got this rare option. The rear seat has never been sat in, they are perfect like the front seats. The dash pad, is excellent no cracks. There are a couple little spots of discoloration, it had a dash pad on it, to protect it, which it did a very good job, you get this as well, but were the glue was for the velcro, it left a tiny discoloration, not bad, you have to look close. The shift handle has a little wear on it, but original leather. Inside, look at the pictures, the interior is near mint, especially for original leather, no cracks, just amazing. You will notice this car is not a Targa model, very few were made as hardtops like this car. The Targa models, were not that popular, especially when it came to racing, to much body flex, the coupes are very hard to find these days and very desirable, with folks who like to autocross, and vintage race. All the gauges work, in very good condition. The radio, wipers, heater are all working good, all the interior and exterior lights work. The Odometer works and speedometer, the miles are 60,080. All the glass is original, windshield has no chips or cracks, they have all the Toyota stamps. At the dealer, they hand etched all the glass with the serial number, back then they would sell this service at dealerships, for anti-theft. That was back before they started acid etching a number. The Air Conditioning, is working and blows ICE COLD!!!!!! The drivetrain and components are in great shape. 7M-GTE 3.0 engine runs awesome, lots of power. The engine starts right up, and runs perfect, very smooth. Nothing touched under the hood, all original, all original components, nothing has been changed. Engine is very clean, and looks great for a car that has been driven, and cared for. The Turbo works great, it kicks in around 3500rpm, and will raise all the way to 8 psi boost. The engine is very healthy and just runs like a top. The original owner, had Toyota install HKS Turbo Timer, which is really important, only modification done back in the day, and very popular, to keep the intercooled turbo nice an cool after you shut the car off. The transmission is a 5 spd manual, which was only an option in the Turbo cars. It shifts great, no noise, clutch feels great, this car feels very good, tight suspension, very quick. These cars were also built with a fully independent suspension, which makes it handle suburb. This car also has the TEMS tuned suspension, which is wonderful. The brakes work great, 4 wheel disc brakes make the car stop on a dime. The factory 16" wheels, are in excellent shape, wrapped in Toyo Proxes Z1, 225/50ZR16. This car mechanically is in great shape, drive it anywhere, very quick, just a dream to drive. If you want a great driving Sports Car this is it. If you have any other questions about this Toyota Supra, please give me call would love to tell you more about it, if interested in a buy it now, let me know.

This '59 Cadillac is now on display at Toyota's museum in Japan

Tue, Dec 20 2016

The Toyota Automobile Museum is different from a lot of other automaker collections in one very interesting way: It doesn't focus solely on Toyota's own automobiles. While the home team is certainly well represented, the love is spread to plenty of non-Toyota brands and vehicles that are significant to automotive history. And that permanent collection now includes the 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz convertible you see here. Yes, the '59 Caddy has the biggest tail fins ever, which makes it measurably significant. You still wouldn't expect to see it in a museum in Japan, though. After updates to the facility and its exhibits finish early next year, the 67-vehicle collection will also include such greats as a Renault 5 (known here as the Le Car), a '64 Ford Mustang, an Audi Quattro, a first-gen Honda Insight, and a Lotus Elite. Someone over there has good taste. You can visit the Toyota Automobile Museum the next time you're in Nagakute City, which is right outside Nagoya. We're booking our tickets now. Toyota reports huge quarterly profit increase, raises forecast for the year

Sun, 04 Aug 2013

Toyota isn't just the world's largest automaker - so far its the biggest winner for quarterly profits. With an enormous $5.5 billion take during Q2, Toyota took advantage of the weak Japanese yen and strong US demand to record a 94-percent improvement in profit over the same period from last year. So far, Toyota brought in larger profits than Ford and General Motors combined.
Toyota is showing no signs of slowing down either, as it has bumped up its forecast for full-year global production, going from 9.94 million to 10.12 million vehicles, on the back of a 13-percent drop in the buying power of the Japanese yen versus the US dollar. That strong exchange rate is largely responsible for Toyota's big jump in profits, although it also managed to shift 1.3 million vehicles in the US market this year. Strong Camry sales have also helped. But while Toyota is raking in the cash, it actually saw a small drop in market share, down 0.1 percent to 14.3 percent of the US market.
As is the case with most automakers, Toyota seems flummoxed by Europe, where it recorded less than one percent of its revenue. Still, as Automotive News points out, Toyota only maintains a 4.5-percent market share in Europe and is far less dependent on the continent than other manufacturers. Toyota also struggled at home, much like Honda. With 525,777 units sold, JDM sales were down almost 51,000 units, although Toyota still saw its operating profit jump from $3.5 billion to $4.6 billion.

General Motors became second-largest US advertiser in 2013

Fri, 28 Mar 2014

General Motors might be mired in several recalls, as well as the ongoing investigations from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Congress into the automaker's response to those recalls. However, the company can celebrate taking the title of the US' second-largest advertiser in 2013. According to Ad Week examining a recently released study, total advertising spending in the US posted its fourth consecutive year of rising expenditures with 0.9-percent growth to $140.2 billion. Of that, the auto industry spent $15.2 billion to promote its goods in 2013, up 3.8 percent.
The country's biggest advertiser was Procter and Gamble, which dropped $3.17 billion in 2013, an increase of 11.8 percent. GM became the nation's second largest promoter with $1.794 billion in spending, up 10 percent. The biggest proportion of that money went to sell Cadillac and GMC. AT&T barely lost out with $1.793 billion in advertising, 15.2 percent growth. The 10 businesses with the highest ad investments spent a cumulative $15.9 billion during the year, 6.6 percent higher than 2012. Toyota came in eighth place making it the only other automaker to rank in the top 10.
The study also indicates that there is a shift in advertising spending from television and print to the Internet. There was 15.7 percent more money outlaid to promote products online in 2013 than the previous year. In comparison, television dropped 0.1 percent, newspapers were down 3.7 percent and radio fell 5.6 percent.
