1991 Toyota MR-2

PRISTINE CONDITION
ESTATE CAR/ ELDERLY LADY OWNED
APPRAISED AT JUST UNDER $10,000
NEVER WRECKED / CLEAN HISTORY
ONLY 47K MILES!!!!

The Toyota MR2 was completely ahead of its time in aesthetics and handling.  With the mid-engine, rear wheel drive drivetrain you are purchasing a vehicle that is second to none in its class.  The only complaint one might have is that this vehicle is under-powered by todays standards.  But every time I have driven this car, I have stepped out with the biggest smile on face... Ask my co-workers!!

SHORT BIO:  This vehicle has been owned by the same person since March of 2001.  Since that time only 5000 miles have been put on the vehicle.  She was very elderly and
took excellent care of it, making sure that it was serviced regularly and driven so that everything continued to function properly.  This vehicle was signed over in a living trust, which makes it extremely easy for the new owner to title.  Title is CLEAN & CLEAR!

MECHANICAL: Mechanically this car is amazing.  It runs like a dream.  The car was given another full tune-up in Indianapolis, IN after the owner put it in her living will.  There are NO known mechanical defects, as everything was checked over by the local mechanic.

INTERIOR: Interior is excellent. There is the factory Toyota AM-FM, cassette player. The dash is excellent condition.  No cuts or mods for a radio.  All gauges work accurately.  Inside the trunk is a car cover that was used most of it life.  Under the front hood is the spare tire along with the original tool kit that came with the vehicle.  Seats are excellent..though there is very small hole on the passenger side seat.  Other than that the interior is virtually FLAWLESS. No rips or tears. Carpet is excellent. All options function as they should.  Interior dome light and rear license plate lights work. A/C is ice cold, heater is hot. Rear defroster works fine.

EXTERIOR: Body is in excellent shape and has ZERO rust. All the body panels are original with the VIN visible.  The only thing that is not original is the paint. These classic red cars tend to fade substantially in any amount of sunlight, so the owner had it repainted with the OEM red.  I have only spotted one very small chip in the passenger side door and it is probably about 20mm wide. VERY Small. Wheels are really good shape.  There are no signs of curb rash and no bends. The two tires in the rear look almost brand new, while the front tires do have some wear. Sunroof works great and is removable. All lighting functions properly.

Car is currently being driven short distances to work. The car is located in Indianapolis, Indiana.  I will assist with transport arrangements.

Car is also for sale locally which gives me the right to terminate this auction if it is sold prematurely.  Because this is a used vehicle, I offer no warranties.

Cash upon pickup is expected.  Wire-transfer will be accepted if vehicle is shipped.

Scams are not welcome and buyer MUST contact me before purchase.  This will let me know who is a serious buyer.  We can discuss shipping/pickup and any other questions about the vehicle at that time.

Toyota amalgamates motorsports divisions under Gazoo Racing

Fri, Apr 10 2015

Toyota has more racing divisions than we could wave a checkered flag at, with the company's various motorsport activities all coordinated by different operations. But the Japanese industrial giant is now bringing most (if not all) of them under one roof. From here on in, any racing that was done under the Toyota Racing, Lexus Racing or Gazoo Racing banners will now be united under the latter. That includes the LFAs it races around the Nurburgring, the TS040 Hybrid it fields at Le Mans and in the World Endurance Championship, the Yaris it will soon throw at the World Rally Championship, the Lexus racers that compete in the Super GT championship back in Japan... the works. The move does not appear to affect Toyota Racing Development, the automaker's American arm that handles its NASCAR racing activities, but from here on out, any Toyota or Lexus you see racing on most anything but a speedway will be competing under Gazoo Racing. The move appears to be more than symbolic and semantic, putting its racing vehicle development, technical support and marketing activities in the hands of the new Motor Sports Group. In announcing the consolidation, Toyota highlights in particular the benefit its various racing programs bring to its talent pool, if not the direct effect they have on the company's vehicles themselves. Toyota Racing, Lexus Racing and GAZOO Racing Unite Under GAZOO Racing Toyota City, Japan, April 9, 2015-Starting April 11, Toyota will unite all motorsports activities under GAZOO Racing. The move will clarify the role of Toyota's motorsports in its efforts to make ever-better cars and foster new generations of car enthusiasts. Until now, Toyota has participated in competitions around the world-including the World Endurance Championship (WEC), the Super GT in Japan, and the Nurburgring 24 Hours endurance race-through the separate Toyota Racing, Lexus Racing and GAZOO Racing teams. Of those, GAZOO Racing in particular was created to expand the role of promoting motorsports beyond that of traditional automakers, and carry out grassroots activities aimed at creating new and ever-growing generations of car enthusiasts. Concerning today's announcement, Toyota President Akio Toyoda said: "Our founder Kiichiro Toyoda once said that motorsports are vital to the evolution of car making and the entire auto industry.

Bibendum 2014: Former EU President says Toyota could lose 100,000 euros per hydrogen FCV sedan

Thu, Nov 13 2014

Pat Cox does not work for Toyota and we don't think he has any secret inside information. Still, he's the former President of the European Parliament and the current high level coordinator for TransEuropean Network, so when he says Toyota is likely going to lose between 50,000 and 100,000 euros ($66,000 and $133,000) on each of the hydrogen-powered FCV sedans it will sell next year, it's worth noting. That was just one highlight of Cox's presentation at the 2014 Michelin Challenge Bibendum in Chengdu, China today, which addressed the main problem of using more H2 in transportation: cost. The EU has a tremendous incentive to find an alternative to fossil fuels, since Europe today is 94 percent dependent on oil for its transportation sector and 84 percent of that 94 percent dependency is imported oil. The tab for that costs the EU a billion euros a day, Cox said, on top of the environmental costs. To encourage a shift away from petroleum, European Directive 2014/94 requires each member state to develop national policy frameworks for the market development of alternative fuels and their infrastructure. For the member states that choose to fulfill 2014/94 by developing a hydrogen market – and to be clear, Cox said, it's not an EU diktat that they do so, since a number of other alternatives are also allowed – the aim is to have things in place by the end of 2025. The plans don't even have to be submitted until the end of 2016. The long lead time is due to a quirk in a hydrogen economy. In hydrogen infrastructure, "the first-mover cost is not the first-mover advantage, but the firstmover disadvantage." – Pat Cox In deploying a hydrogen infrastructure, Cox said, "the first-mover cost is not the first-mover advantage, but the first-mover disadvantage, and high risk." That's why the EU and member states will financially support the early stages, but everyone agrees that "if this is to work, it will have to be ultimately and essentially a commercially viable and commercially driven infrastructure roll-out." Since 1986, European Union research programs have spent 550 million euros on hydrogen-related and fuel-cell-related research, including methods of hydrogen storage and distribution as well as improved fuel cells vehicles, Cox said. Expensive problems remain to be solved. At a conference in Berlin, Germany this past summer, Cox said, the unit cost of the refueling stations was identified as the main problem.

Poor headlights cause 40 cars to miss IIHS Top Safety Pick rating

Mon, Aug 6 2018

Over the past few months, we've noticed a number of cars and SUVs that have come incredibly close to earning one of the IIHS's highest accolades, the Top Safety Pick rating. They have great crash test scores and solid automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning systems. What trips them up is headlights. That got us wondering, how many vehicles are there that are coming up short because they don't have headlights that meet the organization's criteria for an "Acceptable" or "Good" rating. This is a revision made after 2017, a year in which headlights weren't factored in for this specific award. This is also why why some vehicles, such as the Ford F-150, might have had the award last year, but have lost it for this year. We reached out to someone at IIHS to find out. He responded with the following car models. Depending on how you count, a whopping 40 models crash well enough to receive the rating, but don't get it because their headlights are either "Poor" or "Marginal." We say depending on how you count because the IIHS actual counts truck body styles differently, and the Infiniti Q70 is a special case. Apparently the version of the Q70 that has good headlights doesn't have adequate forward collision prevention technology. And the one that has good forward collision tech doesn't have good enough headlights. We've provided the entire list of vehicles below in alphabetical order. Interestingly, it seems the Volkswagen Group is having the most difficulty providing good headlights with its otherwise safe cars. It had the most models on the list at 9 split between Audi and Volkswagen. GM is next in line with 7 models. It is worth noting again that though these vehicles have subpar headlights and don't quite earn Top Safety Pick awards, that doesn't mean they're unsafe. They all score well enough in crash testing and forward collision prevention that they would get the coveted award if the lights were better.
