Lot of 3 FJ40 Land Cruisers with many extra parts:

1972 FJ40 restored in 1998 / 1999. Last used in 2001 when it would not pass PA inspection.  See list of issues below.  Running when stored, have not attempted to get engine running as I do not have the time / inclination to go through the process of getting the engine ready to run.  Clear title.

Known issues [lettered paragraphs, from PA State Inspection in 2001] and analysis [in 2009]:

A.   Horn does not sound – Checked out – relay / connections?

·         Check connection of wire under hood

·         Fuse #2 (2nd from top)

B.   Left Rear Parking Lamp

C.   Left Rear Turn Signal

Left rear parking lamp & turn signal do not work together properly

·         Check light bulb at rear of car

·         Check Flasher

·         Here’s the paragraph from Chilton repair manual.  It indicates some places to look.
Flashers and Relays
The headlight control relay (1973-88 only) is located next to the fuse block under the left side of the instrument panel.
The turn signal flasher is installed on the center portion of the back side of the instrument panel.  The hazard warning flasher is wired into the turn signal flasher, and so has no flasher unit of its own.
The turn signal flasher and hazard warning flasher are separate units on the 1970-72 trucks.  They are located on the inner fender of the engine compartment, next to the fuse block.

D.   High Beam Indicator
Indicator does not work on the instrument panel.  High Beams do work on the car

·         Replace light bulb inside the instrument panel

E.   W/S Washer

Liquid doesn't work?

·         The tube falls out from underneath the hood

·         Easy to fix temporarily, a very small pipe clamp would be needed to keep it there permanently.

F.    Parking Break does not hold – Cable on exhaust / control??  Drum Loose???

·         The parking brakes become loose fairly easily.  I don’t believe that it’s the cable that’s the problem.

G.   Power Brake Booster disconnected form Engine Vacuum

The Vacuum box is right inside the hood on the driver side.  The Vacuum tube is plugged with a nail.  We’ve never had this connected properly.

·         No “good” diagrams in the repair manuals.
Pg 048 of Spector is an ok diagram.

·         Look at other Cars for help?

H.   Coolant Leak – Lower hose??

·         Check tightness of pipe clamp

·         Check if hose is bad

I.      Speedo cable on exhaust

Has been melted in several places.

·         Move speedo cable, use zip-ties, large pipe clamp?

J.    Rear differential Pinion Loose

I’m not really sure what needs to be done to fix this.

K.   Transfer case leaks oil

I vaguely remember it leaking from the parking brake.

·         Check for leaks within the parking brake?

L.    Front Steering knuckle leaks oil – Low fluid level

M.   LF Motor Mount broken

Most of the parts besides the actual Pad should be fine (they’re all bolts and such)

·         Purchase from Spector?
Part # 040-5A
Nov 2000 $20

N.   Front brake hose to frame Twisted / Cracked / Clip issing

Damaged?

·         Purchase from Spector?
Part # 86 - ?
Look on cruiser to see exactly what is broken

O.   Right Rear (Front – Upper) wheel cylinder piston Rusted Fast

We have a complete set of brake cylinders

P.   Both Rear Brakedrums oversized – Exceed maximum diameter

·         Maximum brake drum diameter
11.5 in (292 mm)

·         Spector
Part # 088 – 8
$35-$70 (Used, Aftermarket, OEM)

·         Replace with used drums from parts car.

Q.   Small Rust Hold in frame by Right Rear Spring Hanger (Front

·         Spot Weld?

·         Take to a welding shop
They can to do this real easy where our welding may not be the best

R.   Frame rusty at rear

·         Weld a plate over the length of it
Get a piece of metal from a welding place?  We may have difficulty cutting a large piece of metal.

·         Take to a welding shop
They can do this real easy where our welding may not be the best

Additional issue:

v  Driver’s side window does not crank up / down

1978 FJ40 Purchased “as is” January 2002.  Bought for engine / 4 speed transmission / transfer case & as possible project / parts car.  Previous owner stated engine ran, but I have never seen it running.  I have not tried to get it running.  Nothing done to car except sorting parts for photos.  Previous owner took apart.  Look at the photos (use link below) to see state of vehicle.  Clear title.  If viewed as a project vehicle, note there is rust and rot in most of the normal places.  See photos (use link below).

1973 FJ40 Purchased “as is” in ~ May, 2002.  Purchased for engine & as possible project / parts car.  Engine ran to load vehicle on / off trailer.  Have not tried to start engine since.  No title.  If viewed as a project vehicle, note there is rust and rot in most of the normal places.  See photos (use link below).

Extra parts include a 2F engine w/ 4 speed transmission (no transfer case), 2 front doors, 8 new brake cylinders, new decals, hard top, 2 front fenders, 2 rear doors, new rear fender replacement parts, steering parts, brake parts, 2 tires, 3 alternators, 2 starters, 2 power steering boxes, 1 power steering pump flywheels, clutch parts, radiator, Tuffy console and lots of other FJ40 related stuff.

Use this link (download to open with Adobe) for a complete set of photos and minimal description of some items.

It’s been 5 years since I retired and it’s clear that I will not find the time to work on any of these cars.  Moving these vehicles to a new owner will clear up space for other projects / current interests.

I have tried to be detailed in documenting the contents of the sale.  If you have any questions, contact me before you bid.  Please no backing out if you see a little rust that you didn't expect.   The 1972 FJ40 can be ready for the road with not a lot of effort.  The other vehicles are serious project cars or use for parts.

Buyer is responsible for shipping:  that includes any pick up / shipping fees.  Any in transit damage to vehicles / parts will be the responsibility of the buyer.  Most everything will fit inside the cruisers, however buyer should arrange for the glass windows to be protected / secured before transport.  Following will not fit inside cruisers:  2F engine / transmission, 2 front fenders, muffler, 2 tires, hard roof.  I will help get vehicles & parts out of the garage and to the road for loading.  You should plan on providing 2 people for the loading process.

I do require a non-refundable 10% deposit within 24 hours of the end of the auction [Pay Pal].  Complete payment within 10 days and before any loading [Pay pal or cash].

US buyers only, US currency only.

Toyota investing $30 million in Indiana for more Highlander production

Sun, 28 Jul 2013

Indiana seems like the place to be if you're looking for work in a car factory. In May, Subaru announced plans to invest $400 million in its Lafayette, Indiana plant, creating 900 new jobs in the process and increasing capacity to 300,000 units per year. Now, Toyota has announced plans to invest $30 million in its Princeton, Indiana plant, 170 miles south of the Subaru factory, which also builds the Camry.
Toyota's investment will create an additional 200 jobs and increase the factory's volume by 15,000 units. Toyota announced an investment in the plant in February of 2012 that bumped volume up from 300,000 to 350,000 units. Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana, as the Princeton facility is officially known, produces the recently revised Toyota Highlander, the Sequoia and the Sienna. It employs 4,500 people, and this announcement represents Toyota's tenth production increase in under two years.

Incrementally better than ever | 2017 Toyota 86 First Drive

Tue, Oct 4 2016

We'd love to tell you that the incremental upgrades bestowed upon Toyota's rear-wheel-drive coupe as it made its transition from Scion FR-S to Toyota 86 have transformed it into a perfect sportscar. If only a few more horsepower, shorter rear-end gearing, and tiny aero updates were enough to quell all the complaints that enthusiasts have leveled at the machine since the platform first hit the road in 2012, this review would have been so much more satisfying to write. Sadly, that's not the case. Don't get us wrong. The 86 is still extremely fun to toss around a twisty road. The chassis is impressively balanced, the steering is direct, and the shifter is sweet. Sorry to impart upon you this well-worn trope, but the old adage that it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than it is to drive a fast car slow is, in this case, completely accurate. The 2017 Toyota 86 is nothing if not entertaining. But it's not completely new. It hasn't been transformed. It is, in the end, the same as it ever was. It will take about three minutes of your time to watch the videos below, in which we cover pretty much everything that's new for the 2017 Toyota 86. Toyota 86s equipped with manual transmissions get a five-pony boost to 205 horsepower and 156 pound-feet of torque. Automatic models soldier forth with a carryover 2.0-liter four-cylinder that puts out 200 hp and 151 lb-ft. Apparently, more than half of Scion FR-S buyers chose the automatic. That's unfortunate, as it drains a good deal of the fun out of the 86 experience. Choose the manual and you'll be rewarded with an easy clutch and a rewarding short-throw shifter. And, as we said, five more ponies, courtesy of intake and exhaust tweaks and the polishing of some internal engine components. The only upside to the automatic is improved fuel economy of 24 miles per gallon in the city and 32 on the highway. Manual 86s are EPA-rated at 21/28. Along with the small bump in power, the 2017 86 gets a 4.3:1 rear-end gear ratio in lieu of the old 4.1:1 unit. That ought to translate into a small improvement in acceleration that really only matters on paper. In the real world, on actual roads, the difference is negligible. To eke the most out of the 86, you have to constantly work the shifter and keep the engine north of 5,000 rpm. It's still not particularly quick, but it's definitely fun. There's plenty of noise inside the 86, from the wind, the road, and the engine.

Toyota confirms 2016 Tacoma for Detroit

Wed, Dec 10 2014

A week on from an announcement by Toyota's Bob Carter, the Japanese marque has formally announced that the 2016 Toyota Tacoma will make its global debut next month at the 2015 North American International Auto Show. Not only that, but the company has given us a very minute (and very muddy) teaser image, showing the truck's tailgate and driver's side taillight. Like its big brother, the Tundra, the 2016 Tacoma will feature its name embossed on its tailgate. Beyond that, though, there's really not much to be gleaned from this sole teaser shot. Of course, we'll have much, much more on the next-generation Taco when it arrives in a month's time. Until then, check out Toyota's hilariously brief and to-the-point press release, available below. Tacoma. Detroit. January 12. It's on. December 10, 2014 Toyota's rolling out the all-new 2016 Tacoma at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit on Jan. 12.
