1997 Toyota FZJ80 Landcruiser - FJ80 Land Cruiser
I am selling my FZJ80 because I've decided to move on to the UZJ100 series of landcruiser's. I have owned a few of these the past 10 years and this is by far the best 80 I have ever had. 1997 with factory center, front, and rear lockers. Black in color, tan leather interior that is in great shape. Only seats showing any wear are the two front with minimal cracking. Has a perfect set of third row seats making this an 8 passenger vehicle. I am the third owner. The guy before me bought it from an elderly couple who owned it up until 2008/2009. Runs great, comfortable rig, A/C blows cold, just don't need it anymore. No check engine lights ever, non-smoking exhaust, shifts smooth. Here is a list of features & specifications: Old Man Emu 3" lift (heavy duty J-springs, nitro charger shocks, bump stops, sway bar drops, steering stabilizer, etc.) ARB Safari Snorkel 35" Goodyear MT/R's with 90% tread left SLEE Shortbus front bumper 4.5L inline 6 Automatic Transmission Factory front and rear differential lockers Locking center differential 4 wheel ABS disc brakes Tow package Sunroof power windows and locks power front driver and passenger seats 2 keyless remotes and 2 keys roof rack and CB do not convey If you have any questions feel free to email. Also, right before i bought this truck a kid slid on some wet pavement and hit the drivers side rear corner. You should be able to see the deformed bumper. There is also a dent in the quarter panel and tailgate just above the bumper. It never bothered me because this is mostly a trail truck but I just wanted to let you know it is there. There are a couple of paint/rust bubbles that are normal to this series of land cruiser. They are on the tailgate lid bottom edge and front edge of hood. The hood has some normal acid rain/bird poop fading but other than that the paint is in great shape. Answers to questions I've received when selling other 80's: 1) I do NOT need help selling. 2) Differential lockers lock both wheels on the same axle together. If you don't know what that means...google it. If you still don't get it...this is probably not the vehicle for you. 3) No, it does not get good gas mileage. It is about 11mpg. If you are trying to get 20+mpg...this is not the vehicle for you. 4) No, it is not fast. 5) Yes, it will "go" off road. Much farther than you will ever take it. 6) Yes, it is EXTREMELY reliable. If I didn't care about the mileage at all I would drive it cross country in a heartbeat. 7) No, I do not want to trade for your $1000 motorcyle, boat, or 4-wheeler, but thanks for the offer. |

Would you pay $17 a month to give your older Ford connectivity?
Fri, Mar 30 2018When it was first introduced in 2007, there was nothing like the original Ford Sync system, since it allowed car owners to connect and use a portable device better than anything that came before it. And because it was a brought-in/tethered and software-based system, Sync leveraged a device's connectivity and was easily updated. It took competitors awhile to catch up: Toyota Entune wasn't available until 2011, and Chevy MyLink didn't roll out until 2012. But now Ford is the one playing catchup since it stuck with the brought-in strategy while most other automakers were quicker to add connectivity via an embedded cellular modem. Ford initially installed 2G/3G modems in its small fleet of electric and plug-in electric vehicles starting in 2012 so that owners could keep tabs on charging. Embedded connectivity came to Lincoln in 2014, and Ford began adding onboard 4G LTE via Sync Connect to select cars starting with the Escape in 2015. To get more cars connected more quickly, last week the automaker rolled out its FordPass SmartLink solution that plugs into the OBD port of 2010 to 2017 model year vehicles. This lets owners retroactively get onboard Wi-Fi, set up a "geo-fence" to keep tabs on a car's location, receive vehicle health reports and allows remote engine starting and door locking/unlocking using a smartphone app, among other features. But to connect older Ford vehicles will cost owners $16.99 a month for two years, not including installation. Ford throws in 1 GB of data or a 30-day trial, whichever comes first, after which owners have to add the vehicle to their Verizon shared data plan, which supplies connectivity for SmartLink, or establish a new account. (Disclosure: Autoblog is owned by Verizon.) By comparison, GM's 4G LTE data plans start at $10 a month for 200 MB and goes up to $30 for 3 GB, and owners can also add a car to an AT&T shared-data plan. But OnStar doesn't have a separate monthly subscription for the embedded modem or an installation charge, and standard features via the RemoteLink Mobile App are free for the first five years of ownership. FCA's Uconnect Access service also uses an embedded modem to provide similar telematics features for $20 per month following a free one-year trial, while a la carte in-car Wi-Fi is offered for $10 per day, $20 per week or $35 per month.
Toyota goofs again in latest Mirai fuel cell ad
Mon, Mar 9 2015In the "gotcha" culture engendered by social media and viral campaigns, it looks like Toyota got, well, got. The Japanese automaker is starting a campaign for its Mirai fuel-cell vehicle, and included a line about the fact that the car "breathes in air." Of course, all light-duty vehicles do that, as Jalopnik's Opposite Lock happily pointed out. Jalopnik added that even electric vehicles have an air intake for their heat exchangers. Oops. It looks like Toyota doesn't think this message is wrong, since the image is still up on the company's Google+ page. The Mirai can still lay claim to something that may impress the layman in that it emits only water vapor from its tailpipe. It's a pitch Toyota started making to Americans last November when the company said it would start Mirai sales this year in California. Toyota's charging an MSRP of $57,500 for those looking to buy the car outright or a three-year lease rate of $499 a month for 36 months (with $3,649 due at signing) for those to want to lease the car. Toyota also said in January that it would ramp up Mirai production to about 2,000 vehicles in 2016 from about 700 this year, as it expands distribution into Europe and the US. In the US, refueling the hydrogen will be free. Just like the chemistry lesson from Opposite Lock. Related Videos:
Toyota and Mazda in talks to build joint US auto plant
Fri, Aug 4 2017UPDATE: The Toyota-Mazda deal has been announced. A newer version of this story appears here. Toyota Motor Corp and rival Mazda Motor Corp are expected to announce plans on Friday to launch a joint venture and build a new U.S. assembly plant, a person briefed on the matter said. A new auto plant would be a major boost to U.S. President Donald Trump, who campaigned on promises to boost manufacturing and expand employment for American autoworkers. Japan's Nikkei reported on Thursday that Toyota would take a roughly five-percent stake in Mazda Motor Corp to develop key electric vehicle technologies and jointly build a factory in the United States. The deal could be announced as soon as Friday, the newspaper said. The person briefed on the matter, who was not authorized to speak to the media and requested anonymity, confirmed the Japanese carmakers were planning to build a large plant in a yet to be determined U.S. location and planned future joint efforts on electric vehicles. The same source declined to offer further details, however. Toyota, in a statement, said the two companies have been exploring various areas of collaboration under a May 2015 agreement. "We intend to submit a proposal to our board of directors today regarding the partnership with Mazda, however, we would like to refrain from providing further comment at this time," Toyota said in a statement issued by its U.S. operations. Mazda said in statement that "nothing has been decided yet" and added the company "will have a board meeting on this matter today. We cannot comment any further." Toyota, the world's second-largest automaker by vehicle sales in 2016 and Japan's dominant car company, has been forging alliances with smaller Japanese rivals for several years, effectively consolidating the Japanese auto sector. A new U.S. assembly plant would likely become the prize in a fierce competition among Midwestern and Southern states eager to expand manufacturing jobs. Trump in January criticized Toyota for importing cars to the United States from Mexico. The Republican president also threatened to impose a hefty fee on Toyota if it were to build its Corolla cars for the U.S. market at a plant in Mexico. "Toyota Motor said will build a new plant in Baja, Mexico, to build Corolla cars for U.S. NO WAY! Build plant in U.S. or pay big border tax," Trump said in a post on Twitter. But since January, Trump has praised Toyota for its U.S. investments.
