1975 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 FST Factory Soft Top with Factory Soft Doors VIN# FJ40192188, California Spec Emissions 1/75 Build Date SCROLL DOWN FOR PICS We all know FJ40s are rare, but real, late model, Factory Soft Tops that were sold in the US are really rare. According to my research, the FJ40L, which they were designated by Toyota, were only sold until 1976 in the US. There is no mention of a soft top version of the FJ40 in any factory or dealer literature after 1976. 1974 was the first year of the 4 speed transmission and 1975 was the first year of the larger 4.2L 2F engine mated to the 4 speed. I have only seen one other US model 75+ FST in my 20+ years of Land Cruiser fanaticism, and it was a Mustard Yellow 1976, and I personally have never seen another US 1975 FST. This is an investment quality Cruiser, that does not need restoration. -Freeborn Red -2F with 4 Speed -1 California owner since 1977, California blue plates (which actually have stickers making them valid through March, 2015). Vehicle was kept at the previous owners farm in the Sierra Nevadas of California. (I can pass on the previous owners’ contact info to the next owner.) -Absolutely NO rust. -Approximately 25000 original miles -This Cruiser is still wearing the original tires that came on it from Japan, Dunlop Snow Cruiser H78-15. Understandably a little dry-rotted, but they hold air and have tread. The spare is a New Old Stock matching Dunlop Snow Cruiser H78-15, in case one of the 39 year old tires go flat. The engine is original and stock except for a Holley carb and headers. (Original air cleaner assembly and emission control box is included.) It fires right up and idles great. No smoke, no knocks. Just changed oil and filter, air and fuel filter. This truck does NOT leak any fluids from anywhere! No oil, trans fluid, brake fluid, gear oil, or even from the steering arm which is common. This truck was repainted within the last few years in the factory color, and was very well done. Body parts were removed and disassembled. The paint job is excellent. No drips, runs, tape lines or overspray. No flaking of paint along seams or anywhere. It is a very high quality paint job. (This thing is quite a head-turner, I don't think I've ever driven a vehicle that garnered more looks than this one. I'd be interested to see it parked next to a new Ferrari and see which one gets more interest.) Inside, the cargo floor and wheel wells were repainted as well and they look excellent. However, the floorboards and dash are all original paint, and look excellent. -Dash is 100% original and uncut except for 1 toggle switch for the winch (Warn 8274). Original radio; it lights up and apparently works, but the one and only glove compartment speaker is currently not connected to it. -Brand new OEM style soft top (Trollhole’s Cruisers) on OEM reproduction soft top frame (Real Steel Cruisers). Matching door skins on the factory soft doors. It is a waterproof poly-vinyl material. -Front seats and jump seats were recovered in factory pattern vinyl and look excellent. -Original suspension, brakes, springs, shocks, wheels and tires. -Odometer has very recently stopped rolling over, but approximate mileage (less than 26,000) is confirmed and can be attested to by signed affidavit from previous owner. -Exhaust system was replaced when headers were installed. -Rear quarters were trimmed slightly when the fender flares were installed by previous owner. -The steering wheel has a few cracks in it. -Headlights, brake lights, turn signals and horn all work. This truck does have a few minor things that are easily sorted out and some of which I will do before it sells; for instance, when the brake pedal is applied the parking lights light up also, probably just a ground issue. The sides of the soft top need to have a few eyelets installed in order to fully fasten the sides of the top to the twist locks on the body. The oil, temp and fuel gauge are currently not working, probably just a loose connection, I just haven't looked into it yet. The brakes could use some adjustment. I would not recommend driving this Cruiser a long distance due to the age of the tires. The purist in me would simply not let me replace them. This truly is a unique and special Land Cruiser. This is the first time this Cruiser has been on the market since 1977 and it is not listed anywhere else. I am a licensed dealer specializing in Land Cruisers. I buy, drive, refresh, restore, love and sell Cruisers. I have sold 40s, 62s, 80s, 100s and 200s, a handful on ebay and have never had an unhappy customer. See my website at MOTORADELLC dot COM. Know that you are bidding on a 40 being sold by a very knowledgeable Land Cruiser fanatic that is more than willing to help with all aspects of your ownership of the vehicle, including future maintenance and/or modification. I have shipped Cruisers all over the country and can help arrange that as well, at buyers expense. This is an opportunity to own a very rare US model FJ40 in excellent condition. With the influx of Australian and South American FJ40s being imported to the US, the American models will always be the most valuable and desirable. Thanks and good luck. Feel free to call or email with any questions. Motorade LLC (803) 270-4411 |

Toyota Aygo X-Wave pops its top
Tue, Jan 20 2015Chop the top off a car and you'll let the sunshine and warm air in, but you'll also get a car that's heavier, less rigid and costlier. That's why European hatchbacks in particular have been increasingly favoring retractable fabric roof panels that keep the structural integrity in tact while letting the sunshine in. The Fiat 500C, Citroen DS3 Cabrio and Renault Twingo all offer this type of setup – as do the Peugeot 108 and Citroen C1, and now their Toyota platform-mate is following them down the same path. Recently announced in the UK is this Toyota Aygo with X-Wave roof option. It's a black canvas panel that opens up the space above both rows of seats at the push of a button. Unlike the roofs on some of the other aforementioned European city cars, it doesn't extend all the way down to the base of the back window, but that just means it doesn't stack up and impede cargo space and rearward visibility. Toyota is bundling the X-Wave roof option with additional equipment like upgraded lighting, infotainment system and alloys for GBP895, taxes included (equivalent to $1,355 at today's exchange rates). That's a lot less than Fiat, for example, gets for upgrading from a 500 to a 500C on either side of the Atlantic. It's also even less than Peugeot and Citroen charge for similar options on their versions of the same vehicle in the UK, and that strikes us as a pretty cost-effective way to go motoring with the top down. LESS METAL, MORE FUN WITH AYGO'S X-WAVE OPEN TOP OPTION How do you make driving a Toyota Aygo even more fun? One sure-fire way is to provide some classic open-top enjoyment with a new retractable x-wave canvas roof. Looking ahead to longer, warmer days, Toyota has launched the x-wave as an option on the five-door Aygo x-pression model. Finished in black, the roof is factory fitted and is full length, ensuring that anyone travelling in the rear seats also gets to enjoy some of the wind-in-the-hair experience. The roof is electrically operated, using a simple switch next to the map light control in the headlining. Specifying the x-wave adds even more appeal to the Aygo x-pression, which also features 15-inch alloy wheels, front fog lamps, projector headlights with LED daytime running lights, the x-touch multimedia system with DAB and Bluetooth, reversing camera and air conditioning.
GM might lose 90-year U.S. sales crown over chip shortage
Sat, Oct 2 2021Automotive News editor Nick Bunkley tweeted on October 1 that according to AutoNews data, General Motors "has been the largest seller of vehicles in the U.S. every year since passing Ford in 1931." With automakers having turned in light car and truck sales data for the first three quarters of 2021, GM's 90-year-run might not reach 91. According to AN figures, Toyota was 80,401 vehicles ahead when the October workday started. Worse, GM is so far behind its historic pace that it might only sell enough light vehicles in the U.S. to match its numbers from 1958. Meanwhile, the New York Times put a few more salient numbers to the pain GM and Toyota are enduring alongside the the rest of the industry. GM sold 33% fewer cars in Q3 2021 than it did in Q3 2019 during the dark days of the pandemic, 446,997 units this year as opposed to 665,192 last year. GM's Q3 2020 was only down 13% on Q3 2019. Over at Toyota, the bottom line showed a 1% gain in Q3 2021 compared to 2020, with 566,005 units moved off dealer lots. The finer numbers show two steps forward and one step back, though; Toyota's September sales were down 22% compared to last year. GM remains optimistic about what's ahead, GM's president of North American operations telling the NYT, "We look forward to a more stable operating environment through the fall." We'd like to see that happen, but we don't know how it happens. The chip shortage said to have been the inciting incident for the current woes isn't over, and not only can no one agree when it will be over, the automakers, chip producers, and U.S. government still can't get on the same page about who needs what and when. Looking away from that for a second shows articles about "No End In Sight" for supply chain disruptions in early September, before China had to start working through power supply constraints, global supply chain workers started warning of a "system collapse," and roughly 500,000 containers sat waiting to be unloaded at Southern California ports — a record number seemingly broken every week. And back to chips, we're told just a few days ago the chip shortage is "worse than we thought."  For now, the NYT wrote that GM dealer inventory is down 40% from June to roughly 129,000 vehicles, and down 84% from the days when dealers would cumulatively keep about 800,000 light vehicles in stock. However, GM just announced it would have almost all of its U.S. facilities back online next week, although some would run at partial capacity.
2014 Toyota Highlander
Tue, 17 Dec 2013Midsize crossovers like the Toyota Highlander tend to play a thankless role in the life of today's modern family.
That's really too bad. With the ability to hold several hyperactive kids and tons of cargo while keeping everyone safe and comfortable in all kinds of climate conditions day in and day out, they're true heroes in the lives of hundreds of thousands of families across the country. Yet their car-apathetic owners often immediately forget about them as soon as their work is done. And nearly all midsize crossovers are thoroughly ignored by enthusiasts whose eyes begin to glaze over at first mention of the phrase "third row."
Toyota is looking to soften the blow somewhat by giving its midsize crossover, the Highlander, a big redesign for the 2014 model year. With a bold new look, updated suspension and a refreshed interior focused on comfort and convenience, Toyota aims to make the Highlander sportier to drive and more striking in appearance, because, as the marketing team explains, "families are going places and they want to get there in style."
