This is a mid-life crisis incarnated!!!   1967 Land Crusier Troop Carrier body on top of a 2006 Toyota Tacoma 6 Spd Manual chassis.  Super Charger.   Body modified to include a 5' short bed (rear end of troop carrier moved forward).  Rear window opens.  Wood stake sides.  Tool Box.   I'm stopped every time I drive it.  People recogonize the classic front end but scratch their heads and say "I didn't know they made a truck".  Looks old but drives new.  I was going for the primed / never got around to painting it look, so no clear coat.  I lost the garage in the divorce ...and this truck needs a garage ....or a clear coat.  I pull into my local Toyota dealership for oil changes.    Super Charger pulls hard and truck accelerates hard.  All pro expedition series springs keep this Toyota rear end up.  After market blue tooth stereo with after market speakers.  Interior floor is rhino lined.  Interior seats are custom fitted with lamb skin covers.   Rear seat has 3 point seatbelts.

I have the truck titled as a 1967 Toyota Pickup.  This allows me to have regular insurance at appraised value with no annual mileage limits and because its a 67' I don't have to get emission tested.  I have also the 2006 Toyota Tacoma salvage title.  That bugger rolled down a hill while the previous owner was four wheeling in it and my builder picked it up at auction.

Appraised at 87K two years ago.  But since then the no garage piece is taking effect.  8'' crack just appeared on the roof this month - it was the straw that broke this camels back - not rusting there (yet) not through to the cab (yet).  Holes under front fender allowed spray water into hollow part of front passenger fender and bubbles are now appearing (2-3 half dollar size spots).  Steps are rusting.  Where they didn't use exterior bolts its rusting. Rust run off is beginning to be noticed in run off spots (like door hinges and dripping from the frame that was built to support the truck bed).  A/C condensate line blocked, leaked water on to the cab floor last summer (but no biggie cause floor is rhino lined).  A/C leaks coolant.  Refilled it last summer, but only lasted a month.  Paint cracked around passenger side rear door (when my kid was yanking on a locked door).  The electrical conduit  on drivers side door is missing.   That's about it.  I have 1 qt each of interior and exterior paint (3 years old - stored inside room temp) so if you can do the repairs - you'll have matching paint for the touch ups.  Windshield install was half ass - consequently it leaks when driving in the rain at highway speeds.  Window seal trim around vent windows is probably original and could use replacement (it was on my list but...)

If I had a garage or lived in AZ I wouldn't be selling.  But I don't, and I live in MD and watching this vehicle get beat down by the weather is killing me.   I put more into this truck then it was appraised for and now I'm done,  but if money was no object and I got a deal on someone else's dime (like you will) I would swap out the independent front suspension that came with the Toyota with a solid front axel so I could beef up the arm support with stabilizers.  Tires are 33'' and while it looks bad ass, its a little too much for the stock Toyota Tacoma front end.  Tires feel to large for the truck on uneven roads.  I believe its called crack surfing.  A beefed up front end / or a steering dampener would resolve this (never got around to that though).  AllPro has directions on how to do this swap on their website.  I would probably also go with bigger shocks on the rear end to balance the effect of the 10 leaf after market (AllPro) springs we installed to handle the additional weight of the bed (vs a Toyota Tacoma factory bed). But I'm done with my midlife crisis now and the divorce wiped out my discretionary funds, so its time for the next owner to pick up where I left off.   Shoot me an email if you want me to send you the appraisal report.

Note: Final picture is the way the interior is now.  Radio is in glove box, controller is mounted in steering wheel (and yes the horn still works).

Lexus NX will be produced in Canada

Mon, Apr 29 2019

OTTAWA/MONTREAL — Toyota Motor Corp will build its Lexus NX luxury crossover vehicle at a Canadian plant starting in 2022, the company said on Monday, a decision that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said demonstrated the value of the country's international trade agreements. The plant will invest hundreds of millions of dollars to produce the Lexus NX and its hybrid version at the factory in Cambridge, Ontario, "supplying the entire North American market," Trudeau said in a presentation with Fred Volf, president of Toyota's Canadian unit. Citing Canada's trade agreements with Mexico, the United States, Europe and Asia, Trudeau said: "We have preferential trade access to two-thirds of the global economy. In fact, we're the only G7 country that has free trade deals with every other G7 country." Trudeau, who faces a tough re-election contest in October, said the plans by Toyota, one of the world's largest carmakers, will help guarantee 8,000 jobs and the factory. The announcement is a "counter narrative" for Canada's automaking industry following recent bad news from other automakers, said Flavio Volpe, president of the Toronto-based Automotive Parts Manufacturers' Association, especially in the province of Ontario. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV said in March it would cut a shift at its Windsor assembly plant, leading to 1,500 job losses, and General Motors said last year it would shut its Oshawa factory by the end of 2019. Plans to assemble the NX in Canada "means that Toyota's Canadian manufacturing operations are here to stay," Volf said, adding that the cars are "the most technologically advanced and the most in-demand cars in the Toyota-Lexus global lineup." On Sunday, Trudeau hosted Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Ottawa. Both touted the benefits of a Pacific trade deal that U.S. President Donald Trump walked away from. Trudeau said he had discussed the project to build the Lexus NX in Canada with Chief Executive Akio Toyoda on April 1. "When we last chatted just a few weeks ago, we discussed the potential of this new Lexus mandate," Trudeau said.

Toyota, PSA extend partnership with new European van

Wed, Dec 2 2015

Toyota and PSA Peugeot Citroen collaborate on a number of vehicles. One of them is a small van jointly developed by the two automakers but marketed individually under their own brands across Europe. Now they've announced the extension of that collaboration, and revealed the first image and details of their new product. Set to be unveiled at their respective booths at the Geneva Motor Show this coming March are the new Toyota ProAce, Peugeot Traveller, and Citroen Spacetourer. They replace the Toyota model of the same name as well as the outgoing Peugeot Expert and Citroen Dispatch, and will each be made available in private and commercial shuttle forms. Although technical specifications have yet to be announced, each will share the same underpinnings and mechanical components, leaving only the parts you can see changing from one brand's version to the next. Expect engines to range from 1.5 to 2.0 liters and burning gasoline or diesel, but the latter will undoubtedly prove the more popular option in Europe. No mention was made of a replacement for the Fiat Scudo, another badge-engineered version of the same van program in its current form. That would seem to suggest that Fiat Professional is either preparing to go it alone with the next-generation Scudo, or phase out the model altogether. The current Scudo slots in between the smaller Doblo (imported to the US as the Ram ProMaster City) and the larger Ducato which was also jointly developed with PSA and sold as the Citroen Jumper/Relay, Peugeot Boxer, and here in America as the Ram ProMaster. The ProAce and its cousins are made by PSA at its Sevel plant in Valenciennes, France. Aside from their vans, the Japanese and French automakers also collaborate on the city car platform sold alternately as the Toyota Aygo, Peugeot 108, and Citroen C1. Fiat also partners with PSA on the smaller Fiat Fiorino/Qubo, Peugeot Bipper and Citroen Nemo. All of which just goes to show what a tangled web they weave in the European market, especially where commercial vehicles are concerned. NEW STAGE IN THE CO-OPERATION PROGRAM BETWEEN PSA PEUGEOT CITROEN AND TOYOTA PSA Peugeot Citroen and Toyota Motor Europe (TME) reveal today the new Citroen SPACETOURER, Peugeot TRAVELLER, and Toyota PROACE. They will be available in MPV versions for private use and in shuttle versions for business use. Both companies therefore confirm the continuation of their co-operation agreement signed in 2012.
