On May-07-14 at 09:29:26 PDT, seller added the following information:

I've had several questions about the location of the vehicle, tags, why I'm selling, condition, and quite a few on the rack.  Location - it is as stated in the Vacaville, CA area. Tags - it is not tagged in CA as I am from the East Coast and I recently moved back to CA. The Colorado tag on the front is invalid and only decorative. I lived in Denver for many years and I still visit the state often to enjoy the outdoor activities. The car is not a daily driver for me.  Why I'm selling - I told myself if I ever moved back out west that I would get a rock crawler or buggy, so I am selling this to get something to do more serious off-roading. Condition - I just had the car exterior professionally detailed, so it's easy to see everything when the guy has the paint gleaming. It has some minor rock chips and a minor scratch or two, no major scratches and no major dents or dings. I have always kept up with touching up any paint issues on the car. It has a couple of small dings from who knows what that are on the rear lift gate. Those were there when I bought it. The interior has some minor issues - scuffs/nicks in the lower parts of the doors from peoples shoes, the steering wheel has some leather/vinyl wear, there are a few wear spots on the seats (no holes, tears). The carpet is in good shape in general. The rear does not have the third row seats as I specifically looked for a Cruiser without them. I don't need to carry a boat load of kids or people, I need to carry a ton of gear and I didn't want to have the third seats taking up valuable space in my garage. That being said, the rear cargo area has been used and shows some scuffs, etc.  Rack - the rack is a one-off, custom that I designed and had built with the help of metal smith. The entire rack is 6061 - T6 Aluminum. It is not included with the Cruiser due to the fabrication and production cost. The cost of the rack added to the price of the Cruiser would make the Cruiser seem very overpriced. The light package alone was over $1500, then adding the 6061 material costs, fabrication and production (shop costs), and you see where that goes. I am willing to sell it with the rig at a heavily discounted price, as it was designed around the 100 series Land Cruiser. Otherwise, I had planned on keeping it and modifying it to fit my new rig. If you are interested, let me know I will send you the full spec sheet on the rack.   Please keep in mind that this is not a stock Land Cruiser, people hauler. It has been lifted, regeared, larger tires, wheels, wired, etc.

Brand new cars are being sold with defective Takata airbags

Wed, Jun 1 2016

If you just bought a 2016 Audi TT, 2017 Audi R8, 2016–17 Mitsubishi i-MiEV, or 2016 Volkswagen CC, we have some unsettling news for you. A report provided to a US Senate committee that oversees the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and reported on by Automotive News claims these vehicles were sold with defective Takata airbags. And it gets worse. Toyota and FCA are called out in the report for continuing to build vehicles that will need to be recalled down the line for the same issue. That's not all. The report also states that of the airbags that have been replaced already in the Takata recall campaign, 2.1 million will need to eventually be replaced again. They don't have the drying agent that prevents the degradation of the ammonium nitrate, which can lead to explosions that can destroy the airbag housing and propel metal fragments at occupants. So these airbags are out there already. We're not done yet. There's also a stockpile of about 580,000 airbags waiting to be installed in cars coming in to have their defective airbags replaced. These 580k airbags also don't have the drying agent. They'll need to be replaced down the road, too. A new vehicle with a defective Takata airbag should be safe to drive, but that margin of safety decreases with time. If all this has you spinning around in a frustrated, agitated mess, there's a silver lining that is better than it sounds. So take a breath, run your fingers through your hair, and read on. Our best evidence right now demonstrates that defective Takata airbags – those without the drying agent that prevents humidity from degrading the ammonium nitrate propellant – aren't dangerous yet. It takes a long period of time combined with high humidity for them to reach the point where they can rupture their housing and cause serious injury. It's a matter of years, not days. So a new vehicle with a defective Takata airbag should be safe to drive, but that margin of safety decreases with time – and six years seems to be about as early as the degradation happens in the worst possible scenario. All this is small comfort for the millions of people who just realized their brand-new car has a time bomb installed in the wheel or dashboard, or the owners who waited patiently to have their airbags replaced only to discover that the new airbag is probably defective in the same way (although newer and safer!) as the old one.

Toyota pimps out Esquire van for Japanese businessmen [w/video]

Wed, 29 Oct 2014

A few months back we reported on a dealership owner in Japan who was petitioning Toyota to make a luxury van. The problem, he reasoned, was that he couldn't take as many friends, colleagues and clients around with him in his Lexus LS, and his Toyota Alphard van wasn't luxurious enough. Well, it seems like he wasn't alone, and Toyota has listened.
The Japanese auto giant has just revealed the Esquire, a new luxury van designed with just such customers in mind. It's significantly smaller than the Sienna we get in America, smaller than the aforementioned Alphard and about the same size as (this writer's favorite) the JDM Noah van (on which we gather it's based). But what sets the Esquire apart is its upscale appearance.
The boxy van is distinguished by its dominant T-shaped chrome grille with a unique emblem that encompasses a shield, sword, "the collar of a gentleman's suit" and the letters Esq. The flank is characterized by a strong beltline with chrome lower window frame and an expansive greenhouse with tinted rear glass. Inside the flexible cabin you'll find accommodation for seven or eight passengers (depending on specification), synthetic leather upholstery and wood and metallic trim. There are even wheelchair-enabled models on offer as well.

New Toyota Supra may get a twin-turbo Lexus V6

Fri, Jul 22 2016

We've heard endless rumors that a successor to the much loved and much missed Toyota Supra is in the works. Toyota hasn't done much to deny these conversations. On the contrary, the FT-1 concept from two years ago and the partnership with BMW have only fueled the fire. Now, talk of a new Lexus engine has led to speculation about the supposed Supra's powertrain. To be clear, this is mostly heresay. Few things have actually been confirmed, but based on what we know a few conclusions can be drawn. We know that BMW and Toyota are working on a joint product. We've seen mules testing out in the wild. In BMW guise, the possibly Austrian-built car will more than likely powered by turbocharged inline four and six-cylinder engines. Unless Toyota wants to use Bimmer power, they'll need to shoehorn one of their own under the hood. That leads us to this rumor of a twin-turbocharged V6 that will presumably power the new Lexus GS and LS. Japanese automotive publication Mag-X first reported on this engine. It was then picked up by YouWheel and Car Keys. Mag-X cites Toyota insiders and even gives an engine code, 943F. This engine allegedly will make more than 400 horsepower and more than 300 lb-ft of torque. While unconfirmed, this makes sense for Lexus. Nearly every luxury competitor has a six-cylinder engine with forced induction. While Toyota has previously had turbocharged inline-sixes, they've never produced a factory turbo V6. Every automaker is downsizing engines in an effort to meet fuel economy and emissions regulations. Toyota and Lexus will follow suit. Taking that V6 and tuning it for a performance application is a solid, if unverified, possibility. Related Video:
