For Sale is my "beautiful" (in my eyes) 1993 Land Cruiser FZJ80. with LOCKING DIFFERENTIALS.
I purchased it from a local private owner in September of 2010 with the intent of fixing it up a bit to take camping, use in the snow, go shopping, and throw the bikes in the back and go have some fun. It is by no means in great cosmetic condition. Though interior is very clean brown colored cloth and in very good shape. When I purchased the truck I was told it had a fresh motor professionally installed at approximately 90k miles. I have no paperwork on the engine swap, though there are markings on the motor supporting that is is not the original. I have had ZERO issues with the engine in my 2+ years of ownership. Only maintenance has been regular oil changes. Mileage shows on title as Exempt. The Good.. Newly Inspected and registered in New York State. Only approx 5k miles on the tires. New factory-style exhaust installed in 2011. Starts up each and every time. Most capable vehicle in poor weather conditions. New Bluetooth Telephone and Alpine audio system w/ speakers. 7 Passenger seats. Roof Rack. Sun Roof. (recently replaced rubber due to small leak). Very Desirable Locking Differentials. Fancy 1993 Style Faux Wood Trim. The Bad.. Paint is poor and faded on hood and top of vehicle. Scratches on paint. Rust hole in hood. Passenger front window goes down, but goes up very very slowly. (may need new motor) Rear wiper no longer works. Transmission slips from 2nd to 3rd gear (can be corrected by blipping the throttle and was never an major issue to me.) Bumper on passenger side is bent up slightly (see picture with of vehicle with snow. no structural damage. Rust spots on various parts of the vehicle. Aftermarket fog lights not working. Slight power steering fluid leak. All in all, its a great vehicle which I don't need to sell. I'll be happy to use it this winter if there isn't much interest. Thanks for taking a look, and I know the pictures are quite vague so please ask for anything specific and I'll be sure to take much better photos soon. |

Scion pondering move upmarket?
Mon, 01 Apr 2013Scion is simultaneously celebrating its ten-year anniversary with the 10 Series models and trying to figure out what to do with itself over the next ten years. Once a go-to consideration for young, first-time buyers who wanted something cool and different, in 2013 it has a model everyone is still talking about in the FR-S, a model few are still talking about in the iQ, and three models in between in the tC, xB and xD that make everyone wonder, "What happened?"
Automotive News spoke to Toyota's North American CEO, Jim Lentz - he was the VP in charge of Scion when it launched - about the options, and Lentz said one of them could be a move upmarket to challenge the established luxury brands that are moving downmarket. "There's going to be a big need in the $25,000 range for a fun-to-drive, nice-looking, value-oriented product," he said, and the FR-S, which starts at $25,255, could provide the platform for Scion to climb up a notch or two in price and perception. An idea like this could conceivably work in tandem with a proposal to move entry-level Scion products over to the Toyota brand - but remember, this is all just ideas on a whiteboard at the moment.
As opposed to an "entry-luxury fighter," the brand could swing back to the other option that was considered when it was formed, directly challenging the Korean makes that have usurped its cachet with first-time buyers. Lentz said Scion could go either way, and the tone of the piece seems to indicate that the final direction is still a ways away from being resolved.

Japan's government gives hydrogen vehicles a big boost
Tue, Jun 3 2014The Japanese government is really paving the way for hydrogen fuel cell technology on its roads. Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry is changing regulations on fuel tanks to make hydrogen cars more appealing to drivers, which should help put the country ahead of others in the race to develop a viable H2 fleet. Japan is raising the allowed pressure of hydrogen tanks from 700 atmospheres to 875, which has the effect of increasing driving range by 20 percent. This move puts the country in line with others with high-pressure fueling regulations. Japan is also in talks with the United Nations and the European Union to streamline inspection rules to make it easier to export Japan's fuel-cell vehicles. Toyota premiered its hydrogen-powered FCV Concept at the Tokyo Motor Show last year and plans to release a production version as early as next year. Honda also plans to build its own fuel-cell cars for 2015, and it debuted its FCEV Concept at last year's Los Angeles Auto Show. Nissan is sending mixed messages on hydrogen, both questioning the availability of a refueling infrastructure and working on developing the vehicles. In Japan, a relatively small country, increasing the range of fuel-cell vehicles makes creating a usable infrastructure a bit less daunting. Will hydrogen-fueled electric cars see the same sort of success as Toyota's Prius hybrid or battery-powered EVs? Only time will tell, but we can keep our fingers crossed that it will, and that the popularity spills over beyond Asia.
