For sale is a great condition 1984 Toyota FJ60 Land Cruiser. This truck drives strong and tracks straight at highway speed! With just over 41k miles on a rebuilt engine, this is an excellent family vehicle or good for someone who wants to go off road.
Highlights: -Runs and drives STRONG with recent desmog and tune-up (Feb). -I recently took it to the mechanic and addressed everything that he could find wrong with it (listed below). -Rebuilt motor with 41.2k miles (rebuilt at 175,336mi). -Original paint and tinted glass! -216.5k mi on chassis -No rust on frame! No rust in gutters or any other of the common suspect areas for this vehicle. -Great condition interior -Transmission solid, shifts and engages smooth. No slips, no problems. -32" tires have lots of tread left. -SOR.com Tuff Duck Slip Covers brown and in excellent condition, easy to clean. -Headliner in excellent condition (see pics) -Rear cargo area and back of rear seats has SOR.com Tuff Liner Here's what's been done over the last year, most work done at Torfab (reputable Land Cruiser expert in Seattle): -New fuel tank installed by Toyota dealership -Front axle serviced: new Marlin Crawler inner axle seals, new wheel seal, new hub gaskets. -New Toyota OEM spider joints -New t-case front and rear output shaft seals -New OEM rear driveline U-joint -New rear diff pinion seal -Broken motor mount replaced, others checked. -Full desmog and tune up -New crankshaft seal and timing cover gasket -New OEM oil pan and gasket -New rear brakes -New battery -Replaced exhaust gasket -H4 headlight conversion -New rear lift gate shocks Here's what's needed soon: -Nothing for a daily driver. I've been driving it almost daily with no problems. -Spare tire size is 28". I'd pick up a used full size in case it's needed. -Jack and spare tools kit needs some missing parts replaced to be ready for a flat tire. -Horn doesn't work. Needs new horn pin/brush in steering wheel, and this is an easy install. The actual horns and wiring are fine (I tested them). -Windshield washer system does not work in front (it works in rear). I haven't had time to diagnose, but I believe just needs wiring checked. Headlight washers need hoses. Other things you should know: -There is minor surface rust underneath paint on some parts of hood and small section on tailgate. -Coolant temp gauge hasn't moved much, but thermostat works fine. I've seen another FJ60 with same, I think it's a gauge or sending unit issue. -Carpet and interior is well used but original. -Engine bay hood insulation is torn in the middle, but still in good condition. Can probably be secured to the hood in torn areas. Plenty of folks run without a hood liner without trouble. -There are some tears in the dashboard and seats (underneath the seat covers) -I can provide specific photos on request. Let me know what you want to see more of! Any additional questions? Let me know! I am driving, so mileage may vary. Will list locally, so seller reserves right to cancel auction. |

2018 Technology of the Year Award | We chat with Lexus about the LC 500h's hybrid system
Mon, Jan 15 2018Every year, Autoblog editors test dozens and dozens of the newest vehicles available, sometimes even before they're available. From those vehicles, we select the ones we think provide the most innovative technology in the industry. Then we pare the list down to the very best, test them again, and vote on our winner for Technology of the Year. This year, Lexus's multi-stage hybrid system — as tested in the LC 500h — came out ahead of the rest of the finalists. We chose the 2018 Detroit Auto Show to hand over the award to Lexus Group Vice President and General Manager Jeff Bracken. He was kind enough to sit down with Autoblog Senior Editor Alex Kierstein and Green Editor John Snyder at the Lexus stand to talk about the hybrid system, what it does, and what it means for the future of Lexus and Toyota. Check out the video above, and follow along for all our coverage from the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, where we are taking a look at all of the new cars and technology that we'll see in the near future. Perhaps the next winner of Autoblog's Technology of the Year award is sitting somewhere on the Detroit show floor. GM, Ford, Toyota, Stellantis CEOs want EV tax credit cap lifted
Mon, Jun 13 2022For just over a decade now, the U.S. has had a federal tax credit worth up to $7,500 for buyers of electric cars and plug-in hybrids. The catch has been that, once 200,000 of them were claimed for a manufacturer, that credit would be phased out. Now, automakers are asking for this cap to be lifted across the board, specifically General Motors, Ford, Toyota and Stellantis. The request comes in the form of a joint letter to Congress (which you can read here), signed by the CEOs of each company. And the ask really is as simple as that. The automakers would like the cap lifted for all EV manufacturers, and instead have a sunset date for the tax credit put in place. Broadly speaking, they want it lifted because of concerns about rising costs from materials and supply chain issues, which can lead to higher prices and could discourage buyers from getting an EV. It would also put automakers back on an even playing field. GM reached its tax credit cap a few years ago, meaning that none of its EVs are eligible for the tax credit. So while it reaped the benefits early on, it now has something of a disadvantage to competitors with credits remaining, such as those that signed on to this letter. GM wouldn't be the only beneficiary. Tesla ran out of credits years ago, too. Nissan still has credits, but likely not for much longer, as InsideEVs reports around 190,000 Leafs have been sold in the U.S. as of April. So it will probably face a phase-out soon, just as the anticipated, and more expensive, Ariya is heading to market. Making this change would also seem like a good choice for continuing to stimulate EV sales, if that's what the government is looking to do. While EVs are now reaching parity in practicality and performance with gas-powered cars, having an additional financial incentive will surely keep them looking more attractive. And automakers can push EVs without fear of running out of credits early. Certainly some sorts of changes to the EV tax credit are likely. There are bills in the works focusing on cap changes as well as the amount of money available, and which vehicles are eligible. Credits up to $12,500 have been proposed, plus possible credits for used EV sales and restricting some credits to vehicles of certain price brackets. Of course, any changes will require some cooperation in a deeply divided Congress. Related Video: Government/Legal Green Chevrolet Chrysler Ford Toyota Electric EV tax credit
Recharge Wrap-up: BMW plans for retired batteries; automakers support dual-standard chargers
Sun, Feb 1 2015Toyota will test hybrids with silicon-carbide (SiC) power semiconductors. In Japan, Toyota has put the SiC power semiconductors into the power control units of a Camry Hybrid prototype and a fuel cell bus for a year-long test. Research suggests the SiC units will decrease electrical losses while managing power supply, thus improving overall powertrain efficiency. Current power semiconductors account for about 20 percent of electrical losses, and success with these tests could mean more efficient hybrids on the roads in the future. Read more at Hybrid Cars. Automakers from CCS and CHAdeMO camps are supporting dual-standard charging station networks. https://www.autoblog.com/bmw/, Volkswagen (CCS camp) and ChargePoint announced plans to build "express charging corridors" by installing about 100 DC fast chargers, many of which will support both types of charging. Kansas City Power & Light is partnering with Nissan (CHAdeMO camp) and ChargePoint to install DC chargers that "will charge any model of electric vehicle on the market." This leads the folks at Green Car Reports to look into whether this ends the looming standard war between automakers in the US. Read more at Green Car Reports. BMW, Bosch and utility company Vattenfall are making plans for a second life for retired BMW i3 batteries. The Second Life Batteries Alliance project will recycle the old lithium ion battery packs - which can still hold a charge - in off-grid storage and grid-stabilization applications, beginning with a grid storage system in Hamburg, Germany. Bosch has created a battery management algorithm to extend the life of the batteries and make sure they don't cause harm to Vattenfall's facilities. Read more at Transport Evolved.
