This is a good mostly original 81 FJ40 with 55000 actual miles. About 1200 of the early miles were when it was towed behind a motor home. It was originally Texas bought and owned. A commercial pilot bought it new, and towed it around for several years. My brother-in-law bought it to use on his farm down there, but drove it little as a ATF served his needs better. I bought it from him in the 1990's. I'd have to dig out the title to find out for sure.it spend the summer months at my cabin in the mountains, and at my friends ranch in the winter. It was never used but about 10 times in the winter. Many years it was driven about 300 miles per year driving it back and fourth, and sat unused for months at a time. When I bought it my brother-in-law gave me some parts too do away with the emission controls. This included an exhaust header. I put on all of what I was given and stored the original emission items as there was no emission checks at that time. Recently about 2 years ago they began emission testing in my area, and it would not pass the test. I had long since gotten rid of the original items. To get around this, it is licensed as a classic because it appears original, and it is driven seldom. The running gear is all stock, the top has never been taken off. The brakes are still factory original. The interior looks great, however, I had the driver's seat reupholstered recently. One winter when I took it close to my cabin in winter. I snowmobiled in. When I came back out 2 days later it was 27 below zero. When I got in to the Toyota, the seat was stiff and the upholstery on the seat cracked in several areas. Believe it or not but the Land Cruiser started up, and I drove it 120 miles home. It has never been wrecked, except for the damaged area on the left rear part of the front fender, and area under the right door as shown. The photo of the left front fender shows some heavy rust. 15 or so years ago, it has previously rusted in the same area. I took the fender off and had it sanded and repainted at a local body shop. Several years later it began rusting in the same places. Several years ago the rear cargo area floor mat got wet some how, and it wasn't moved for over a year. At that time, I took the mat out to sweep in out, and the floor underneath had a lot of rust. I took it and had it sandblasted, and it was sealed with an anti-rust compound. I painted over that 6 coats of tan paint. I am certain that it will not rust there again. Also the floor next to the driver's heel has some rust I just noticed, along was a few other small areas on the right rear door. I believe that I have posted photos of the bad spots. It isn't as nice as if it had been stored inside, but it is pretty much original except the winch, and working aftermarket air conditioner. It wouldn't hurt to put on a set of tires, and then it could be driven anywhere at highways speeds. It runs, and drives very well. Email for more information if needed, although I am slow to answer at times. I need $1000.00 non refundable within 5 days of auction close. You can come and drive it home, or you could have it trailered or shipped. It needs too be picked up within 2 weeks of auction close.

Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race Scion FR-S [w/video]

Thu, 07 Mar 2013

Toyota has been hosting its Pro/Celebrity race at the Toyota Grand Prix on Long Beach since 1977. The charity event, which has raised millions of dollars over the years, traditionally pits Hollywood celebrities against professional athletes (including race car drivers) on the full Grand Prix course in modified street vehicles. The short, sprint-style race is popular with the crowds as the amateur drivers race uninhibited - the result is an action-packed race with plenty of excitement and automotive... er... carnage.
Over the decades, the drivers have raced a variety of Toyota products including last year's front-wheel-drive Scion tC. But this year, Toyota announced at the Chicago Auto Show that the new rear-wheel-drive Scion FR-S would be stepping up to the plate. The good news only became better when Toyota Motorsports invited us out to Southern California's Willow Springs Raceway (the same circuit where the drivers train and practice) to be one of the first behind the wheel.

2020 Hyundai Palisade vs. Ascent, Pilot, Highlander and CX-9: How they compare on paper

Thu, Feb 15 2018

We've finally had our first drive of the 2020 Hyundai Palisade and found it to be well-equipped for sales success. It nails the formula that some of the most successful three-row crossovers have, the aforementioned seating capacity, high driving position, all-wheel-drive availability and a V6 engine. Of course, it also offers a unique and menacing-looking exterior that ought to stand out in the parking lot. To dig deeper into how it compares to other three-row family crossovers, we've fired up the old Autoblog Comparo Generator 3000 (™) and lined the all-new 2020 Palisade up against the 2019 Subaru Ascent, 2019 Honda Pilot, 2019 Toyota Highlander and 2019 Mazda CX-9. Besides being two of last year's best-selling three-row SUVs, the Pilot and Highlander are also the closest in general concept to the new Palisade, while the Ascent and CX-9 also offer a comparable turbocharged four-cylinder powertrain. The CX-9 is also one of our favorites in the segment, and the Ascent is one of the newest entrants on the scene. There are of course numerous other worthy contenders, including the Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia, Volkswagen Atlas, Nissan Pathfinder, Hyundai Santa Fe and the best-selling Ford Explorer, so if you want to see their specs, check out the Autoblog compare tool. Performance and fuel economy The Subaru, as is so often the case, is the oddball. It has a 2.4-liter turbocharged horizontally opposed four-cylinder (aka a flat-four or a boxer-four) that produces a comparatively modest horsepower rating, but a greater amount of torque. That's typical for turbocharged engines such as Mazda CX-9's turbo inline-four that produces 250 horsepower on premium fuel (227 hp on 87 octane) and 310 lb-ft of torque (the VW Atlas also offers a base turbo-four). The Hyundai, Honda and Toyota, meanwhile, go about it the old-fashioned way, with naturally aspirated V6 engines displacing 3.8 liters in the Hyundai, and 3.5 liters with the two Japanese crossovers. The Toyota and Hyundai lead the pack in horsepower, with the Toyota taking top honors by just 4 horses. The Honda weighs less, though, so their acceleration should be comparable. The Subaru actually accelerates on par with its V6-powered competitors, probably due in part to its continuously variable transmission. The fuel economy trophy goes to the Ascent.

Bronco, Yukon, Hummer and a CES recap | Autoblog Podcast #610

Then Zac tells about his time in Las Vegas attending CES 2020. They talk about the cars they've been driving: a JCW-tuned Mini Clubman, the long-term Subaru Forester with its new gold wheels, a Volvo S60 PHEV that's been added to the long-term fleet, and a Camry Hybrid. Last, but not least, they help a listener decide how to spend his money on a sports car.
