VEHICLE CONDITION:
This 1978 Toyota FJ cruiser was originally owned by the state of Washington. Bureau of Land Managment. It was used to chase bears away and perform other BLM chores. All the maintainance was done according to specifications and the records were reviewed by the car collector I bought the car from. It was stored in his warehouse and used as a sunday driver around town. I purchased this FJ40 around 6 years ago from him and it has been garaged since. I used to drive it on weekends around town with my kids who are now much older and have moved on to "more interesting" weekend fun so it's time for this gem to find a new home.
NOTE: This is not a restored FJ. It is a very well maintained and original SURVIVOR.
WHAT HAS BEEN DONE:
HFS (Hell for stout) suspension from CCOT (Cool cruisers of Texas) Toyota springs with CCOT Brass Shackles etc.,
BF Goodrich tires with less than 500 miles on them.
Replaced headliner.
New rubber and window seals in great shape, no rattles.
Rims powder coated white.
Seat belts new.
New master cylinder.
Like new bucket seats.
Flip down seats in great shape.
Is set up for towing with plug reciver and bumper brackets for Blue Ox tow bar (tow bar not included).
Passes California smog and has original smog specs under the hood (very important).
Original LandCruiser manual.
Original 2F 4.2 LT. six cylinder motor runs great.
All features work as they should. Heater, directional signals, brake lights, headlights, running lights.
This FJ40 shifts great. The 4x4 and 2x4 all work nicely. The brakes, parking brake and clutch are all good to go.
The color is Buffalo Brown and and as you can see by the photos is in excellent condition.
I have taken pictures of the few small areas of imperfection. The dash has two cracks. There is a small chip on the hood where it touches the roof with the hood up. There are 3 very small areas where the paint is bubbling about the size of a quarter and dime. These spots are on the drivers front fender and the drivers door, bottom outside.
There is a small oil leak in the rear main seal.
I have talked to Spector offroad and the folks at CCOT and the gasket to fix it is cheap but the labor is not. The experts tell me they all leak, so if fixed, the leak will just return in a few years. Anyway I did not bother.
The radio is AM/FM with CD player. The speakers are in the original spot but have been replaced. No holes were drilled or cutouts made to replace the old speakers. The trim piece for the stereo was modified slightly to accommodate the the new stereo but I have the original trim piece should you want to put the original AM radio back in.
She is a beauty, in excellent original condition. I have many more pictures for those interested. Please be specific when asking for additional photos because I have over 100. I was limited to 24 shots by EBAY.
I will help with shipping.
THIS IS A NO RESERVE AUCTION so
Good luck bidding to all interested.

Santa swaps his sleigh for a Ferrari-powered Toyota
Fri, Dec 23 2016A Ferrari-powered Toyota 86 is sure to garner a bit of attention, as well it should. We've been paying attention throughout this build, so it should be no surprise then that Santa did as well. He's ditched his red sleigh for the Gumout GT4586 in this video. If you've been following along, you know that Ryan Tuerck and Gumout built this completely bonkers machine that's far more exciting than some previous Japanese/Italian mash-up automobiles. Donut Media has been doing their part to document and promote every stage of the process. This new video is filled with the gratuitous amounts of lights, noise, and tire smoke that Donut is known for. We don't know the conversion from horsepower to reindeerpower, but the GT4586 should provide plenty of oomph for Santa's Christmas trek. Average transaction prices climb to a record $36,270 in January
Sat, Feb 3 2018The automotive sector made a hash of the numbers last month, a mess of pluses and minuses clogging the transaction-price charts according to Kelley Blue Book. The overall industry rose one percent, even though buyers bought fewer cars and light vehicles in January 2018 vs 2017 using the selling-day adjusted rate. Due to January transaction prices rising to $36,270, a record for January, the value of new vehicles sold climbed more than $1 billion compared to January 2017. KBB's transaction prices don't include customer incentives, which changes the complexion slightly; average incentive spending rose to just over ten percent. The average transaction price in December 2017 was $36,756, so January dropped a bit - nothing unexpected, with the month annually blamed for "January doldrums." More revealing is the fact that the average transaction price in January 2017 was $34,910. This year's plumped-up figure came courtesy of the continued shift to crossovers, SUVs, and light trucks, which shouldn't surprise anyone who's read an automotive blog in the past 20 years. That category comprised nearly 70 percent of new vehicle sales for the month. Some manufacturers profited more than others, though. Fiat Chrysler managed 12.8 percent fewer sales in January compared year-on-year, but the company's vehicles sold for $1,300 more. The Ford brand suffered a 6.3-percent dip in sales, but brand transaction prices increased $2,000, while a Lincoln sold for $8,700 more on average. General Motors sold more cars and sold them for more money; overall GM transaction prices rose four percent, or $1,270, while a GMC traded hands for seven-percent more than in January 2017 and a Cadillac got $2,300 more on average. Of KBB's listed automakers, the Volkswagen Group got the most of out its customers, transaction prices rising at the German automaker by 5.6 percent to $42,243 in January 2018 compared to a year earlier. American Honda followed with a 4.3-percent increase to $28,991, GM in third at 4.1 percent to $40,313. Find your next car at Autoblog using our new and used car listings or the Car Finder tool. Broken out by segment, minivans rocked the table, transaction prices leaping by 7.9 percent to $35,380 compared to January a year earlier. Luxury cars boasted the next-highest rise, at 3.6 percent to $58,533.
Brand new cars are being sold with defective Takata airbags
Wed, Jun 1 2016If you just bought a 2016 Audi TT, 2017 Audi R8, 2016–17 Mitsubishi i-MiEV, or 2016 Volkswagen CC, we have some unsettling news for you. A report provided to a US Senate committee that oversees the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and reported on by Automotive News claims these vehicles were sold with defective Takata airbags. And it gets worse. Toyota and FCA are called out in the report for continuing to build vehicles that will need to be recalled down the line for the same issue. That's not all. The report also states that of the airbags that have been replaced already in the Takata recall campaign, 2.1 million will need to eventually be replaced again. They don't have the drying agent that prevents the degradation of the ammonium nitrate, which can lead to explosions that can destroy the airbag housing and propel metal fragments at occupants. So these airbags are out there already. We're not done yet. There's also a stockpile of about 580,000 airbags waiting to be installed in cars coming in to have their defective airbags replaced. These 580k airbags also don't have the drying agent. They'll need to be replaced down the road, too. A new vehicle with a defective Takata airbag should be safe to drive, but that margin of safety decreases with time. If all this has you spinning around in a frustrated, agitated mess, there's a silver lining that is better than it sounds. So take a breath, run your fingers through your hair, and read on. Our best evidence right now demonstrates that defective Takata airbags – those without the drying agent that prevents humidity from degrading the ammonium nitrate propellant – aren't dangerous yet. It takes a long period of time combined with high humidity for them to reach the point where they can rupture their housing and cause serious injury. It's a matter of years, not days. So a new vehicle with a defective Takata airbag should be safe to drive, but that margin of safety decreases with time – and six years seems to be about as early as the degradation happens in the worst possible scenario. All this is small comfort for the millions of people who just realized their brand-new car has a time bomb installed in the wheel or dashboard, or the owners who waited patiently to have their airbags replaced only to discover that the new airbag is probably defective in the same way (although newer and safer!) as the old one.
