The history of Moo
Many years ago Bob H. the owner of TPI 4x4 (then Truck Sales) bought an exceptional one owner 1978 Land Cruiser from a customer. That Land Cruiser turned out to be one of, or possibly the last 1978 FJ40 Land Cruiser produced. It was and is titled as a 1979. Bob knew that he got a special one and kept this Land Cruiser on his cattle farm and it got the nick name “Moo”. Bob used Moo as a show piece for new hi performance/ high quality products that TPI sold, and as an example of an uncut rare FJ40. He did many of the modifications himself and he featured it in all of the TPI catalogs. Over the years Bob drove Moo less and less and she had started to show some age. I have been a customer of TPI and a Land cruiser owner/ restorer for almost twenty years and I have always loved this truck. I was finally able to buy Moo from Bob almost two years ago and began this journey.
Under the hood- The original 2F inline six cylinder was completely rebuilt using top quality components including factory intake and exhaust valves, dome pistons etc. The Block was bored .30 over and the heads milled to perfection, then it was balanced and blue printed. The valve cover, intake manifold, and thermostat housing were all media blasted then powder coated for great looks and a durable finish. A TPI hi performance kit was added, including ceramic coated headers, complete exhaust with flow master muffler, a 38 mm Weber carburetor with an electric choke, Factory distributor/coil, and top of the line spark plugs and wires. Finished with all new hoses, water pump, electric fuel pump, battery, upgraded wiring, Hella Horns, and much more. The motor has about 10000 miles on it since the rebuild, proper break in procedures have been followed. The speedometer was turned back to 0 when the motor was rebuilt. All of the gauges work perfectly.
Steering- Heavy duty and very tight OEM Toyota power steeringwith an Old Man Emu steering dampener mounted in the factory location, used in conjunction with new tie rod ends and polyurethane bushings provide a safer and more controlled driving experience.
Axles/suspension/ tires - Factory axles with a 4:10 gear ratio, and rebuilt disc brake front end. Including super winch hubs, newcalipers, brake pads and all bearings packed with synthetic grease.2.5 inch lift springs (Old man emu) and greaseable anti-inversion shackles. (5) 33x10.5x15 B.F. Goodrich KM2 tires mounted on color matched factory wheels with new OEM hubcaps. The Factory 4speed transmission and transfer case are in excellent condition, it shifts with ease and has no slop. All fluids in the cases and axles have been replaced with synthetic fluids.
Body- Excellent Barn kept body that has been repainted in single stage acrylic (better than factory) in the factory Cynus White color (code T12). The undercarriage and frame were coated with professional rust prohibiting paint (POR 15) and 3M chip guard was applied under the front fenders (helps to protect fenders from rock chips). The rear quarter panels had a small amount of rust forming in the usual places so they were completely replaced with galvanized panels from Cool Cruisers of Texas. It has factory roll bars, factory front bumper, Heavy duty Cool Cruisers of Texas rear bumpers that are color matched to the wheels, interior, and engine components. It even has the original jack and tool bag. Aluminum Con-Fer roof rack. Stainless steel bolts, door hinge pins, and washers are used throughout the vehicle. They make it easier to make adjustments, and to take the top and doors off without chipping the paint off of the bolts and surrounding painted areas. All new OEM emblems, plus all of the seals needed to replace the hard top are OEM seals.
Interior- The front floor boards and firewall were coated with a factory type insulation to reduce heat and noise from the engine compartment, and to increase the efficiency of the AC unit. Prior to painting, the floor boards, fender wheels, and bed floor were coated with 3M chip guard to add a tougher and slightly textured finish.High quality fitted floor mats were also added. The rear jump seats are in perfect condition with new pads, hardware, seat belts, and covers from Cruiser Corps in black to match the TPI reclining seats that are in excellent condition and far more comfortable than factory seats while still using the factory seat braces and maintaining a similar appearance. All new door seals, no rattles! It has a new dash cover and a custom headliner. Complete Vintage Air conditioning system works perfectly, has a built in heater that greatly out performs the factory unit!
Countless hours of skilled work and attention to detail have been poured into this project. The parts chosen for this very special FJ40 represent the best available options, and the knowledge of what works from experience on and off the road. In many ways this vehicle exceeds in quality, safety, performance, and comfort than when it was originally built. Moo has heart and soul and is made to be driven! I would be happy to assist with shipping but Moo can be driven anywhere. I have full faith and confidence in her mechanical condition and impeccable reliability. She has a classic look with a modern feel. Quality is never an accident. Drive a legend, drive a Land Cruiser! Own a piece of Land Cruiser history, Moo in particular!

Weekly Recap: Toyota propels hydrogen fuel cells
Sat, Jan 10 2015Toyota is serious about hydrogen fuel cells, and it wants the auto industry to follow suit. The Japanese automaker said this week it's releasing 5,680 fuel cell patents from around the world, including technologies used on its upcoming sedan, the 2016 Mirai. The move is unusual, but not unprecedented, as Tesla similarly released its electric vehicle patents last year. The idea for Tesla, and now for Toyota, is to spur development of alternative propulsion. "By eliminating traditional corporate boundaries, we can speed the development of new technologies and move into the future of mobility more quickly, effectively and economically," said Bob Carter, Toyota Motor Sales senior vice president of automotive operations, in a statement. Toyota's fuel cell patents will be free to use through 2020, though patents related to producing and selling hydrogen will remain open forever. Toyota said it would like companies that use its patents to share their own hydrogen patents, but won't require it. "What Toyota's doing is really a logical move, and really a good move for the industry," Devin Lindsay, principal powertrain analyst with IHS Automotive, told Autoblog. The announcement was made at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. It comes as Toyota prepares to launch the hydrogen-powered Mirai in a limited number late this year in California. The launch will be extended to the Northeastern United States next year. Toyota also has announced plans to support networks of fueling stations in each region to try to smooth consumer adoption. The Mirai has a 300-mile range on a tank of hydrogen, and it takes about five minutes to refill. Fuel cells have been receiving increased attention recently, and Audi and Volkswagen debuted hydrogen-powered cars at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. Honda, another proponent of the technology, also showed its updated FCV concept in November in Japan. The company, however, has delayed its fuel cell sedan a year until 2016. Like Toyota, Honda says its hydrogen-powered car will have a range of 300 miles or more. Meanwhile, Hyundai currently offers leases for fuel-cell powered Tucsons, which have a 265-mile range, in Southern California. Despite the optimism some automakers have for fuel cells, the technology still faces barriers. A lack of filling stations has long held it back, and many consumers are not familiar with the potential benefits.
Toyota celebrates 30 years of 4Runner with... incentives?
Mon, 24 Feb 2014Many Americans view their 30th birthdays as significant milestones, even though the average life expectancy here is more than 2.5 times that age. So you might think Toyota would be keen to party over the 30th anniversary of its 4Runner, since most models don't even live to half that age. You can put that idea away unless you consider discounts of $500 to $1,000 something worthy of cake and kazoos, since it appears that's all the birthday SUV will get. That's right, not even a trim-and-tape special edition or so much as a sticker. We asked Toyota for comment and were told they had "No other 30th anniversary 4Runner items to announce at the time."
So, about those incentives: they climb from $500 on the SR5 and Trail editions to $750 on Premium models and $1,000 on the Limited trims. Toyota says they're available at dealerships now and will last for the entire year. There's a press release below with a little more background, and there's a sad violin playing somewhere in the distance.
Disappointed, party of one, your table is now ready...
