1971 Toyota Land Cruiser on 2040-cars
Plainfield, New Hampshire, United States
1971 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40. This is a truck built BY a Land Cruiser enthusiast FOR a Land
Cruiser enthusiast. As you read this description, you’ll note the details that make this the ultimate Land
Cruiser Junky’s truck!
This recently restored Land Cruiser started off as a 1971 US-SpecFJ40, but was converted to a BJ40 diesel during
the restoration. This is NOT a South American truck! The Land Cruiser went through a thorough frame-off,
nut-and-bolt, multi-year restoration and is ready for anything. It’s the perfect truck for taking to the
mountains, cruising along the beach, or just cruising to the local car show. The odometer reads 38471 miles
The truck received a Toyota LandCruiser 3B (approx. 150k km or 93k miles) from a Canadian spec Land Cruiser along
with an H55F 5-speed transmission, “split” transfer case, and 1981 BJ42rear axle with integrated parking brake.
The engine received all new gaskets and seals and was installed using quality BJ42 reproduction frame mounts with
new motor mounts. The transmission was installed using an OEM1981+ transmission crossmember. An original BJ42 Air
cleaner assembly was also used. The drivetrain looks like it came from the factory this way and doesn’t have any
goofy custom-made brackets like so many other conversions. If you’re a LandCruiser junky like I am, this is
probably the most highly desired 40 series drivetrain combination available. The transmission and transfer case
were rebuilt with all new Japanese (mostly Koyo)bearings, 3rd-5th synchros, seals, and gaskets. The front and rear
axles received all new wheel bearings with the front axle receiving a complete knuckle rebuild with Koyo bearings.
Has restored period-correct Dualmatic (Selctro-style) hubs. Stock Land Cruiser driveshafts were retubed, balanced,
and had new Japanese (Matsuba) U-joints installed by a local driveshaft shop. There is an OEM hand throttle
mounted under the dash to assist with cold starts or for use if a winch is installed.
This FJ40 received an OEM BJ42radiator shroud, an aftermarket BJ42 brass radiator from Australia, a new Aisin(OEM)
water pump, and new fan. This was all tied together with new Toyota hoses and belts.
The front brakes were converted to power disk using Wilwood 4-piston caliper kit, stainless hoses, and stock
Landcruiser disk brake master cylinder and brake booster. The rear brakes are stock 1981 self-adjusting, single
cylinder brakes with integrated parking brake. The brakes are a HUGE upgrade all-around with no wheel cylinders or
parking brake to manually adjust. The steering was converted to power steering using a Toyota mini-truck power
steering box and factory BJ42 power steering pump. Additionally, all tie rods were replaced with new Japanese (555
brand) units. The suspension upgrades consist of 2.5” lift springs and new Bilstein5100 series shocks. All new
greaseable spring pins and anti-inversion shackles were installed along with new polyurethane bushings. The truck
rides better than any other FJ40 I’ve been in.

Toyota to show Camry and Corolla Special Editions, updated Avalon in Chicago
Thu, Feb 5 2015Toyota has quite the party ready for the upcoming Chicago Auto Show with the unveiling of some colorful Special Edition versions the Camry and Corolla to go along with the biggest piece of news, a refresh for the Avalon. The company didn't announce any specific info about the updated sedan but did release this dark teaser image, which we lightened (pictured right) to show off more detail. The stylists seemingly tweaked the higher portion of the grille, while giving the lower section a wide-open mouth. After the Camry's 2015 refresh, the popular sedan now has sharper, somewhat more aggressive styling, and this Special Edition based on the SE trim leans into that demeanor even more. Limited to 12,000 units starting in August, power still comes from a 2.5-liter four-cylinder rated at 178 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque with a six-speed automatic, but Toyota tries make it look a meaner, including 18-inch wheels with black highlights, smoked taillights and a choice of either Blizzard Pearl or Blue Streak Metallic paint. The interior changes are more thorough, with black bolsters and blue centers for the seats, plus matching cerulean highlights for the instruments and trim. Buyers also get a few luxuries inside with an Entune Audio Plus stereo, push-button start and moonroof. Navigation is optional. Where the Camry has a blue theme, the Corolla Special Edition goes crimson for its limit of 8,000 units beginning in August. Based on the S Plus trim, exterior upgrades are limited to a set of gloss black 17-inch wheels and a choice of Absolutely Red, Black Sand Pearl or Super White paint. There are a few more updates inside, with red stitching and accents for the seats, dashboard and door trim. These models also get push-button start, but an improved audio system with navigation and power moonroof are optional. GM repairing 40,500 Pontiac Vibes as part of Toyota airbag recall
Wed, 09 Apr 2014General Motors has confirmed to Autoblog that the Pontiac Vibe is included in Toyota's just-announced recall action. The Vibe and the Toyota Matrix share a large number of parts, including the affected cable to the airbag.
"About 40,500 Pontiac Vibes from the 2009-2010 model years are included in the Toyota recall. Toyota designed and engineered the Vibe for Pontiac. GM will service customers with these vehicles when Toyota makes the parts available," said GM recall spokesperson Alan Adler to Autoblog in an email.
The recall covers 1.3 million Toyota units in the US, including 2009-2010 Corolla, Matrix and Tacoma, the 2008-2010 Highlander, the 2006-2008 Rav4 and 2006-2010 Yaris, plus the addition of the 2009-2010 Vibe. The models all have their airbag module attached via a spiral electrical cable. The connections on this cable can be damaged when turning the steering wheel. Once broken, the airbag deactivates and the airbag warning light comes on. Toyota has an improved part, but it's still making preparations to begin repairs. It will begin notifying owners soon.
Refreshed 2013 Toyota Landcruiser Prado gets official [w/video]
Fri, 30 Aug 2013We'd seen leaked images of the the refreshed 2013 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, now Toyota has deemed it officially ready for the European masses it is aimed at. We can only hope the masses are ready for that grille, probably the most intense of the many changes made to the volcano-eating truck. The new face and its "powerfully projecting vertical bars" were designed to "accentuate the new Toyota's rugged appearance," as if the legendarily capable SUV wasn't rugged enough. Other changes include redesigned headlight clusters, stronger character lines along the sides, new taillights and license plate "garnish" in back, and a slew of new wheel choices. Both the three- and five-door are 20 millimeters longer, all of that in the front overhang, but the approach angle apparently hasn't changed.
The new organization of trims runs from Entry to Legend, Prestige and Executive. The interior has been reorganized with better seats in the second and third rows, a new upper center console, a redesigned panel for controlling on- and off-road driving functions, reworked Optitron meters with a 4.2-inch LCD screen, and new switchgear, fabrics and color schemes. Infotainment has been upgraded with Toyota Touch 2 and Toyota Touch 2 with Go. They mirror your smartphone if said phone happens to be either a Samsung Galaxy S3 or Galaxy Note 2.
On-road driving dynamics have been improve with suspension changes, and a Rear Cross Traffic Alert added to the suite of safety features for maneuvering the beast. When it comes to the Land Cruiser's real reason for being, the five Multi-terrain Select choices and five-step Crawl Control are more easily used with a Multi-terrain Monitor reworked for more clarity.
