This is the rarest of the rare...An all original, uncut, unmolested, rust free 1968 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40. This wasn’t a barn find, it was a heated garage find!

So here's the story: Much to the dismay of my wife, I literally scour the internet daily to find unmolested rust free west coast Land Cruisers; diamonds in the rough. A few months ago I found an advertisement in the Redmond OR (a high desert region) area that looked very promising. After speaking at length with the owner I knew this truck showed a lot of promise. I made arrangements to see the truck the following day.

The second I saw this truck I had to have it. I’ve never seen one in such original and well cared for condition.

I purchased this amazing truck from an critically acclaimed author at his sprawling estate. He had owned the truck for over 8 years and kept it parked in this heated 6 car garage with the rest of his collection. He was in the process of selling off his automobile collection to make room for an in-ground, in-door swimming pool. He only drove this truck about once a week around the neighborhood when he was suffering from “writers block.”

The author had purchased the car in California where he believed it had been since new (I have the original CA plates as well). All of the receipts that were passed along to me are from California mechanics. I have extensive receipts detailing years of maintenance; along with the original owners manual. These receipts include a full engine rebuild on 6/98 at 92,419 miles along with thousands worth of other repairs completed the same year. With the mileage now at 104,101 (this will change as I drive it daily), this documents that the truck has only been driven 12k miles in the last 16 years. Additionally, I have a receipt documenting the mileage in 1985 was 88,551. The documentation shows that the current mileage is accurate.

After exchanging cash for the title, I set off on my drive home. Not knowing the capabilities of these vehicles, and concerned with the lack of road time over the years, I contemplated my route. I was apprehensive to take the most direct route as it included a  steep 4,000 foot climb over Mt. Hood. However, the alternate and flatter route increased the travel time by 1 hour according to my GPS. I decided to take my chances and climb the mountain. After a quick fill up, I started my 140+ mile, 2.5 hour trip.

I was amazed by this trucks performance. At no time was I ever passed on the hills or climb over the mountain; there is absolutely no shortage of power. This truck cruised at 60-70mph without a problem. I drove non-stop for 2.5 hours grinning ear to ear.

Since completing the restoration a few weeks ago, I’ve used this truck as my daily driver almost exclusively. It fires up without hesitation, drives straight and true and is truly amazing mechanically. This is far and away the most fun car I’ve ever owned. It is truly a joy to drive. I constantly get thumbs up, grins or comments by everyone who sees it. It’s nearly impossible to not have a conversation at every stop light.

Within the last month I have completed the following:

New OEM upholstery

New OEM headliner

New OEM sun visors

New OEM wheels

New OEM hub caps

New OEM front bumper

New OEM side mirrors

New OEM starter

New 31” tires

New brakes all around

New fly wheels all around

New wheel bearings all around

New brake lines

New battery cables

Oil change

Rebuilt steering box

Rebuilt wiper motor

This truck has EXTREMELY LOW MILES and has a CLEAN TITLE. It has NO ACCIDENTS OR BODY RUST (only very minor surface rust on undercarriage, and where the paint has been scratched or worn away, which is to be expected for a 46 year old truck with original paint). However there is no cancer anywhere on the truck. This is a truck that can (and already has) literally last a lifetime and be passed from generation to generation.

Interior: All the soft parts are brand new OEM materials

Exterior: 100% original

Mechanically: EVERYTHING WORKS on the truck as it should. The engine runs very strong with NO SMOKING, KNOCKS OR LEAKS. The 4WD shifts effortlessly and works amazing.

The first thing I do with all my Land Cruiser purchases, whether or not they run great, is bring them to a mechanic to have them gone through. I brought this to Land Cruiser NW (a local shop that works on Land Cruisers exclusively) to have them go through the car. I just want the piece of mind that I’m delivering something without mechanical problems. Upon my arrival, every employee came out to see this rare find.

I wanted to make sure it started, stopped and drove perfectly. I also wanted to be sure to keep everything original. I guess the only thing that’s not original on this truck is the tastefully chosen oversized tires and the memory foam under the new OEM upholstery.

The paint was never a question for me; I had to keep it original and untouched. I can’t justify covering up the patina that took 46 years for nature to create. Also, it still has an amazing shine.

If you know about these trucks, and have seen others, you know what an EXTREMELY RARE find this one is. It is nearly impossible to find a 100% ORIGINAL FJ40. These trucks are only increasing in value and are widely popular across all generations and demographics.

If you don’t know of the FJ40’s reliability and versatility, do your homework. I challenge you to find any negative comments on any website. In my opinion, these are the best trucks ever made.  This is a proven truck with years of reliability.

Please don't hesitate to ask any questions. Bid with confidence in this no reserve auction. I am not opposed to closing the auction early with a reasonable offer.

The only items I've sold on eBay have been cars and trucks; and my feedback continues to be 100% positive. My hobby of restoring FJ40‘s, FJ60’s & 62's has become a double edged sword. This is my 14th restoration. I love bringing them to meticulous original condition, but doing so, even this very small volume in the last year has forced my to acquire my dealers license. Rest assured, I primarily restore Land Cruisers and know what I’m doing; I’m a perfectionist and take pride in my projects. I’m not your typical used car dealer; this is my hobby. I do have a regular full time job.

Scion was Toyota's lost generation

Sat, Feb 6 2016

Toyota's top North American leader was succinct in explaining the reasons for killing Scion. "It's the right decision at the right time," Jim Lentz said. It's hard to disagree. In a strong market that saw 17.5 million sales last year, Scion volume dipped three percent. Its product lineup has withered for years, which is always a telltale sign a brand doesn't have the full support of its owner. Though enthusiasts love the FR-S sports car, it's the fruit of a joint project with Subaru that also produced the BRZ. Scion's coolest car has a twin sold by one of its rivals. After the FR-S launched in 2012, Scion got nothing – squat – in the way of new products until the iA and iM arrived late last year, IHS senior analyst Stephanie Brinley noted. "[Scion] was not successful in building a visual brand identity or product personality," she said. Lentz, Scion's first vice president and now CEO of Toyota's North American division, admitted the market has changed. "Younger customers have a different mindset," he said. In the early oughts, a brand that catered to a youthful demographic made some sense, and this is one front where Toyota can declare victory. Seventy percent of Scion's buyers were new to Toyota, and the average age was 36 years old. The problem is, not enough of them buy Scions anymore. Scion hit a highwater sales mark of 173,034 vehicles in 2006 and hasn't come close to reaching that since. The recession hurt Scion, too. It bottomed out in 2010 with just 45,678 sales, a time when the rest of the industry was beginning to recover. There was a brief uptick (73,507) in 2012, but Scion failed to capitalize on that momentum and sales fell for three more years. Toyota is calling Scion's pending death a "transition" back to the main company. Sure, most of the cars will be rebadged Toyotas, like the FR-S, iA, and iM. The C-HR, an attractive future crossover that would have given Scion a boost, will go into production as a Toyota. But make no mistake: This is a failure. Toyota is closing a brand in the same way General Motors scrapped Oldsmobile, Ford shuttered Mercury, and Chrysler dropped Plymouth. Those brands languished for years. Toyota moved quicker to put the fork in Scion, which prevented it from becoming a long-term drain on the parent company. Lentz was dead on. It's the right time. Toyota launches updated Yaris in Europe, Vitz in Japan [w/videos]

Wed, 23 Apr 2014

Toyota first launched the Yaris in 1999, though that model was sold in the North America as the Echo. The second generation arrived in 2005, replaced by the third in 2011. Sometime next year, Toyota is expected to roll out a new Yaris for North America, to be built in Mexico on the same platform as the next Mazda2. But before that comes to pass, Toyota has introduced a mild facelift for the Yaris in markets other than ours.
With styling cues borrowed from the new Aygo and the Yaris Hybrid-R concept, the new Yaris (for Europe) and Vitz (for Japan) are distinguished by updated styling front and rear. Though the European model bears a more aggressive look than the JDM version, both feature the new X motif that seems to be the new look for the whole family - particularly for small hatchbacks.
The back end has also been revised to incorporate new LED taillights and a (faux) diffuser in the bumper. The cabin, meanwhile, has been redesigned to feel roomier and quieter with upgraded equipment. The suspension has also been refined, and in Europe at least, Toyota will continue to offer the Yaris with a choice of 1.0- or 1.3-liter gasoline engines, 1.4-liter diesel or hybrid powertrains.

Award-winning Lexus Sport Yacht to get a production successor

Sat, Mar 10 2018

Imagine driving along a coastal road in the evening sun, listening to Christopher Cross, Michael McDonald or some other very smooth singer usually associated with the tag "Yacht Rock". Perhaps a Lexus coupe could very well suit that soft rock mental imagery, with "Sailing" playing from its Mark Levinson audio as you cruise down the road in a laid-back fashion. But you could in fact be sailing in a Lexus-branded boat, too. Revealed a year ago, the Lexus Sport Yacht isn't just a badge-engineering job: it was created by Lexus Design, engineered by Toyota's Marine Division and built by the Wisconsin-based boat manufacturer Marquis-Larson Boat Group. The one existing example has just now been honored at the Yokohama International Boat Show, by Japan's Boat of the Year committee. As Toyota's Executive Vice President Shigeki Tomoyama accepted the award, he also announced production plans for a globally sold Lexus Yacht. "Based on our amazing experiences in engineering, building, testing and showing the Lexus Sport Yacht concept last year, we've decided to take the next bold step of producing an all-new larger yacht that builds on the advanced nature of the concept while adding more comfort and living space," Tomoyama said. "We plan to start sales in the U.S. in the latter half of 2019, with sales in Japan following in the spring of 2020." The new, 65-foot yacht will be built in partnership with Marquis-Larson, and more details of it will be revealed later. Related Video:
