73,119 Miles 1987 Toyota Corolla Sport Sr5 Coupe 2-door Ae86 on 2040-cars

This car is in excellent condition. I bought it from the second owner, who bought it from a co-worker at PG&E. It has been garaged and parked covered almost it's entire life, and the condition of the paint and trim and weatherstripping shows it. The current mileage is 73,119.
I bought this car with plans of making it a sort of cruiser. Yeah, I wish it was a GTS or at least a manual transmission car too, but it is so clean that I thought it would be perfect just to find some japanese bumpers and lower the car slightly to make just a cool cruiser. The auto is a nice overdrive 4 speed, so it gets around great. Unfortunately now, things are happening in my life and I need to get down to the bare essentials, so this near collector grade car has to go before I could really get started on it. The lady I bought it from had lost her license and couldn't see too well. She bumped the front drivers side headlight cover in a parking lot, and was also responsible for the dent on the passenger side rear fender. What actually saved the car was the fuel pump, which I believe committed suicide in order to save the rest of the car. When I bought the car the lady's caretaker said "it has some sort of fuel problem" and he was right. I replaced the fuel pump with a factory Toyota kyosan unit and it has been running perfectly ever since. The only other work that has ever been to the car besides regular oil changes is the replacement of the drivers headlight cover and the sunroof. These were painted to match the car by a local body shop and, while they look decent, are not a perfect match. I don't think most people would notice, but I know what I'm looking for, and I can't honestly say the job was done perfectly. If I had more time I would have these repainted again, but because of life circumstances these are going to be left to the next owner. The only other damage on the car is a tear in the front bumper from the same event that dented the headlight cover. Fortunately the fender and hood were not effected in any way and remain totally original. The paint is bright and shiny everywhere with only extremely minor door dings and scratches resulting from normal careful use. The car is virtually rust free, with a little bit of rust on the underside of the hood where water accumulates in the support bracket or something like that. The sunroof was rusted, as they all are. This is a result of the toyotas seal design and the 2 ply construction of the panel. Basically, a steel sandwhich winds up being permanently submerged in water which ends with a rusty panel even in a car that was garage kept. The roof itself is perfect, and the sunroof was replaced with a fiberglass unit that looks stock, weighs a lot less, and won't rust again. All in all this is an exceptionally clean AE86 in one of the best color combinations ever offered for these. Feel free to contact me for more photos or with any questions or if you would like to inspect the car before bidding. Of course the car is sold as-is with no warranty expressed or implied, I encourage anyone interested to take a look at the car and see how nice it is for yourself. Buyer is responsible for the arrangement of freight. Please remember that a bid on this auction is a contractual obligation to purchase. Thanks a lot guys! |

Toyota's 'Easy Speak' Gives Parents A Voice In Backseats
Mon, Jul 21 2014Parents often wish they could be in two places at once. A feature from Toyota now gives them the next best thing: The ability to yell at their children from a distance. The feature, known as Easy Speak, was introduced in the 2014 Highlander and can now be had in Toyota's Sienna minivan. It allows drivers to use a microphone to communicate with passengers via the car's speakers, all while keeping their eyes on the road. This can come in handy when your brood starts their territorial shoving matches. There's also an optional two way conversation mirror, which allows parents to keep check in on the action without having to turn their head around. These are welcome features. A three-week study from the Monash University Accident Research Centre in Melbourne, Australia showed that children – not telephones – are more likely to distract people while driving. Parents were distracted on 90 of 92 trips studied by the researchers, racking up an average of three minutes of distracted driving per 16 minute trip. Cell phones only made up one percent of that distracted drive time. Related Gallery Coolest minivans of all time Weird Car News Toyota Minivan/Van
Who sold the most small/midsize pickups in 2012? PickupTrucks.com investigates that, too
Wed, 27 Feb 2013PickupTrucks.com has taken another look at the sales of its favorite vehicle bodystyle as part of an ongoing series. According to registration data from R.L. Polk, the Toyota Tacoma easily took the crown as America's best-selling mid-sized pickup, with 133,477 units rolling into new homes in 2012. For comparison, the second-place Nissan Frontier only saw 50,566 registrations.
We feel compelled to point out that before Ford pulled the plug on its ancient Ranger, the company was moving some 75,000 units per year. That number had shriveled to 15,662 by 2012, which was still enough to surpass the Honda Ridgeline. Interestingly enough, one person brought home a brand-new Hummer H3T as well. But mid-sized trucks represent only a fraction of total pickup sales. Dealers sold a total of 241,471 midsizers last year compared to 988,326 half-tons.
That segment was dominated by General Motors with 533,814 sales followed by Ford at 478,204. Ram Trucks trailed behind in third with 241,204 units with Toyota close behind at 229,769. Nissan, meanwhile, remains a distant fifth. Head over to PickupTrucks.com for a closer look at the breakdown in each segment.
