Next-gen Toyota Tacoma mule caught towing in the desert

With the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon set to arrive in dealers in the near future, it's high time Toyota got to work on a replacement for the Tacoma, a vehicle whose present generation debuted in the middle of the Bush Administration. Now, we have images of that new pickup undergoing testing.
Our spy photographers picked up this heavily modified mule undergoing tow tests in the desert. It rides on a modified version of the current Taco's frame, as evidenced by shots of its undercarriage, although our spies cite the lack of riveted sections as indications that the current truck's footprint should remain unchanged.
Aside from underbody changes, this particular Tacoma featured a six-speed manual transmission, which we're expecting to be joined by a six-speed automatic. The current four- and five-speed autos found on the current truck will almost certainly be killed off. Marching to the grave with those slushboxes will be the two-door Regular Cab body style. Our spies are expecting Toyota to focus its efforts on the larger, more accessible Double Cab.

Toyota SEMA cars include Tundra for Baja and wacky DUB Edition Yaris

Toyota has released the first images of its brigade of concepts for the 2014 SEMA Show, introducing a trio of TRD-fettled off-roaders, a pair of DUB-inspired models, a race-ready pickup and a Sienna minivan with 48 inches worth of subwoofers.
Four of the vehicles being shown by Toyota will take part in the grueling Baja 1000 off-road race. The star of that effort will be a race-prepared Tundra, which will actually be competing from November 12 to 16 in the 47th running of the desert race. It'll be supported by a trio of vehicles, which mimics Toyota's TRD Pro Series production vehicles, with the 4Runner, Tacoma and Tundra all acting as support vehicles.
Each of these vehicles has been fabricated by the off-road specialists at N-Fab and comes loaded down with communications and guidance equipment, additional lights and off-road body modifications.

Toyota creates awesome off-road Sienna

Toyota is in the midst of relocating its North American headquarters to Plano, TX, on the outskirts of Dallas. It's a huge deal for Toyota, of course, and for northern Texas. But if you don't work for the company or live in the area, it may be of less interest to you personally. Fortunately the Japanese automaker had something more exciting to showcase while it was presenting the plans for its new campus. What you see here is a vehicular mashup the likes of which we've never quite seen before. You might call it a crossover or a hybrid, but those have different (and very specific) connotations when it comes to automobiles. It's billed as the Toyota Ultimate Utility Vehicle, and it basically puts a Sienna body on a Tacoma truck chassis. It's also obviously been beefed up some as well, with a jacked-up suspension, off-road rolling stock custom bumpers, reinforced wheel arches and side sills, auxiliary lighting, a matte black finish, smoked headlamps and tinted windows. It's set to be showcased at the SEMA show later this year, but in case the look of it didn't convince you, the UUV is built to run. It's set to take part in the North American leg of Toyota's Ever-Better Expedition that's designed to put the company's employees out on the road in the cars they make.
