1980 Toyota Celica Sunchaser GT
Convertible

Up for auction. Very rare, 1980 Toyota Celica Sunchaser GT 5 Speed. #414 of 500 built in 1980. Approximately 2,000 total units ever built by the Griffith Co. over 3 years. Toyota commissioned the Griffith Co to build a convertible / targa top in an era when federal regulations prohibited auto manufacturers from building them.
Now to my car, Florida born and raised and rust free top to bottom. Beautiful yellow paint that is not original and appears to be 10 years old with no signs of rust or any prior rust repair. Interior is in great shape and mostly original with the exception of seat inserts. Dash and console free of any cracks or damage. All gauges, clock, and factory radio in working order as well as ice cold air. The odometer shows 14,658 miles which I believe to be in excess of mechanically limits based on the extensive receipts that accompanied the car. Both the targa top and convertible rear top are in above average condition showing some signs of repair around the seals. Original targa top storage bag and boot cover in trunk. Both bumpers, all lights and wheels in excellent condition. Tires are mismatched. Mechanically car is very sound, starts and runs super, with no noises or signs of smoke from the 20r 4 cylinder engine and the 5 speed transmission shifts smoothly.
I purchased this car from a Toyota Dealer who had it in his warehouse for nearly 10 years. In addition to having a great car, the car comes with some amazing documents including service records, original owners manuals, and most of all an original 3 ring binder provided exclusively to Toyota Dealers. The binder details the whole history of the Sunchaser from inception to delivery to the select Toyota Dealers. Binder includes details of the fabrication, complete parts lists and all marketing and advertising information including the cover of Motor Trend Magazine February 1980 along with many other press releases. I have to believe the info in this binder adds priceless value to this car.
Bid with confidence. This car is as represented with a reserve well below its value.

Editors’ Picks March 2023 | Hot hatch galore and some great luxury SUVs

Tue, Apr 4 2023

This month of Editors’ Picks sees us hand out a pair of nods to the best hot hatchbacks money can buy these days, the Honda Civic Type R and Toyota GR Corolla. You can read more about how they compare in our head-to-head comparison test, but both have their advantages, and we can highly recommend buying either of them. Then we head to Europe to recognize a couple of SUVs that just went through mid-cycle refreshes and came out on the other side just as lovable as they were before. In case you missed our previous Editors' Picks posts, hereÂ’s a quick refresher on whatÂ’s going on here. We rate all the new cars we drive with a 1-10 score. Cars that are exemplary in their respective segments get an EditorsÂ’ Pick designation. Those are the ones weÂ’d recommend to our friends, family and anybody whoÂ’s curious and asks the question. The list that youÂ’ll find below consists of every car we rated in January that earned an EditorsÂ’ Pick. 2023 Honda Civic Type R 2023 Honda Civic Type R front low View 34 Photos Quick take: The Honda Civic Type R embodies what at means to be a hot hatch. It's the best FWD car we've ever driven, and because it's a Civic, it excels with a spacious and pretty interior, too. This is the full package. Score: 8.5 What it competes with: Toyota GR Corolla, VW Golf R Pros: Sublime driving dynamics, magical shifter, gorgeous and utilitarian interior Cons: An expensive proposition, lacks basic luxuries like heated seats From the editors: Senior Editor James Riswick — "The Civic Type R is a resolutely composed performance machine that sufficiently builds upon the delightful man-machine interfaces found in the increasingly impressive trio of Civic Sport Touring, Civic Si and Acura Integra A-Spec. ItÂ’s even more fun and capable at higher speeds, yet remains just as forgiving and easy to drive. The 2023 Honda Civic Type R sure seems all grown up. Maybe itÂ’s because IÂ’m almost in my 40s, (ugh) but I see absolutely nothing wrong with this. The Type R magic is not lost." In-depth analysis: 2023 Honda Civic Type R First Drive Review: All grown up isn't so bad   2023 Toyota GR Corolla 2023 Toyota GR Corolla Circuit front three quarter low View 39 Photos Quick take: The GR Corolla is a serious performance machine that is sure to please any enthusiast with its brilliant driving dynamics. It's only let down by a cheap-feeling and small interior that doesn't lend well to daily driver duty.

Toyota recounts past Supra glories

Mon, 29 Jul 2013

It could just be a slow start to the news week around the Toyota offices, but its UK blog has posted a brief history on its legendary Supra sports car. Read into however you'd like, but there has been plenty of speculation as to the return of the Supra nameplate in recent years (including last month from incoming Toyota chairman Takeshi Uchiyamada).
Built from April 1978 through July 2002, Toyota's sports coupe made quite a name for itself as both the Celica Supra (shown above) and the Supra, and the blog post charts many of the changes and highlights through the years. Head on over to the Toyota UK blog to read more about this Supra's history, and then be sure to check out the gallery of images from Toyota spanning all four generations.

Toyota's Lentz says fuel cells are the future, not EVs

Sun, 25 May 2014

Toyota is not bullish on EVs. That comes from the company's North American CEO, Jim Lentz, who said the company will focus not on electrification, but on continued hybridization with a long-term focus on hydrogen fuel cells.
Lentz questioned the long-range ability of EVs, saying that Toyota feels "there are better alternatives, such as hybrids and plug-in hybrids, and tomorrow with fuel cells." Lentz spoke about Toyota's focus on hydrogen following Forbes Brainstorm Green conference and barely a week after a battery deal between Tesla and Toyota ended, according to Automotive News.
That deal provided for 2,500 battery packs for the Rav4 EV. While valuable to Toyota, the deal "was never about open-ended volume," Lentz said. "It was time to either continue or stop. My personal feeling was that I would rather invest my dollars in fuel cell development than in another 2,500 EVs."
