If you are looking at this auction, I commend you because you know how special this car is. The car is mostly original ( driver and all passenger seats were redone and a newer radio which needs the wires reconnected are the only non-stock items). But most importantly, this has the original black paint and all original bullet proof 20R motor. The CB option was added and that is in great shape too. Floor pans and spare tire compartment are solid with no rust. Slight surface rust here and there on the car but No cancer anywhere. Several small dents and surface scratches but overall, the car's body is in great shape. There is a crack on the rubber dash but the wood grain is intact. This was a California car that went to Houston. The odometer shows 89k miles and was told by previous owner that it is original as he bought it from a collector in California. Recently rebuilt carburetor. Recently rebuilt starter. Recent tune up. I have successfully dyed leather before and was planning on buying a $12 bottle of black Fiebings Leather Dye, a $1 pack of rubber gloves, and a 50 cent sponge to dye the blue sections of the seat to black. $500 deposit due upon winning. White House clears way for NHTSA to mandate vehicle black boxes
Fri, 07 Dec 2012At present, over 90 percent of all new vehicles sold in the United States today are equipped with event data recorders, more commonly known as black boxes. If the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gets its way, that already high figure will swell to a full 100 percent in short order.
Such automotive black boxes have been in existence since the 1990s, and all current Ford, General Motors, Mazda and Toyota vehicles are so equipped. NHTSA has been attempting to make these data recorders mandatory for automakers, and according to The Detroit News, the White House Office of Management Budget has just finished reviewing the proposal, clearing the way. Now NHTSA is expected to draft new legislation to make the boxes a requirement.
One problem with current black boxes is that there's no set of standards for automakers to follow when creating what bits of data are recorded, and for how long or in what format it is stored. In other words, one automaker's box is probably not compatible with its competitors.
Toyota teaches weather reporters not to get their forecasts wrong

In few other professions can you get your duty utterly wrong for the day and for that to be completely acceptable. Toyota is taking TV meteorologists to task in a new ad in Europe for the Aygo X-Wave with its sliding canvas top. The gimmick here is that the forecasters have to drive an Aygo for a month with a top that's synced to their predictions. For example, if they report sunny weather, then the top opens automatically regardless of whether rain is pouring down. Even if the results are staged, it still provides for a great dose of humor to market the hatchback's massive opening roof.
Toyota GT86 convertible could debut in March

Just before the Toyota GT 86/Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ line-up was introduced at the Tokyo Motor Show last year, there was a report that Subaru was considering a convertible while Toyota wouldn't even comment on it. That got swapped around when earlier this year the chief engineer on Toyota's side said a convertible was coming, and then a Scion FR-S droptop was confirmed for early 2014.
Autocar now reports that the Toyota GT 86 convertible will make its first appearance at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show in March. In a car whose specs like weight, packaging, horsepower and center of gravity were all tightly controlled to get the most from the least, the changes necessitated by chopping the roof could make this a very different car. It's said to employ a fabric roof to keep a "small" weight gain check, and the suspension will be softened to work more harmoniously with the decreased body stiffness. And somewhere in all that the back seat and trunk space will need to take a hit.
In other news, Autocar says the hi-po GT 86 with some kind of capacitor system instead of batteries is being worked on for 2015.
