White 2010 Toyota Yaris | 5spd Manual Transmission | on 2040-cars
Carbondale, Illinois, United States
| Condition: The car is in very good condition under my ownership and has been kept clean, inside and out, as you can tell from the photos. The exterior has not suffered scratches or impacts though there is one dimple on the driver's side, near the rear quarter panel and it is not very noticeable. The interior is without any blemishes and has virtually no wear whatsoever. I've owned the car for a year and performed some maintenance myself (replacing the air filter and cleaning the MAF) as well as having it taken in to the dealer for scheduled maintenance both for routine oil and tire changes. It runs very smoothly and has not once had issues pointed out by the dealer. It has been a smoke-free vehicle. Features: 2nd of its generation, this Toyota Vitz (known in North America as the Yaris) has a four-cylinder, 1.5 L, 107-horsepower, NZ Toyota engine. It is front-wheel-drive, 5-speed manual transmission hatchback coupe. It seats at most 5 people (rear seats fold down completely and slide if you need the space) and gets 29 MPG city/36 MPG highway/ 32 MPG combined. It offers traction control, stability control/electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), and 4-wheel anti-lock braking system (ABS). There is also keyless entry, air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, and cruise control. It includes also a single-disk CD system and option for auxiliary stereo input (mp3 player) through a jack. There are Side Air Bags as well as F&R Head Curtain Air Bags. Shipping and payment: A bank-certified/cashiers check and bill of sale will complete the sale and the car will be available for pick-up from my home location in Carbondale/Makanda, IL. |

Why Lexus shies away from plug-in hybrids
Mon, Apr 20 2015Lexus may have softened its stance a bit from the anti plug-in vehicle ads the Toyota luxury badge ran last year, but at least one executive from the company casts a pretty critical eye towards the concept as a way to cut both emissions and refueling costs. In fact, Lexus doesn't really buy the fact that buyers of plug-in hybrids are really looking to save both gas and the environment, Green Car Reports says, citing an interview at the recent New York Auto Show with Lexus executive Mark Templin. Templin also said hydrogen fuel-cell technology may be a better way to edge towards zero emissions. Templin decried plug-in hybrid technology because it adds weight to vehicles, which contributes to poor emissions figures in the process. He added that plug-in vehicle buyers are motivated more by potential tax credits and solo driving rights in high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes than cutting back on fuel use. Last summer, Lexus ran an supposedly tongue-in-cheek print ad poking fun at how long it takes to charge a plug-in vehicle and how using air conditioning can shorten a car's charging range. Last spring, Lexus had to backpedal from an anti-electric ad it ran that had serious mistakes about hydrogen infrastructure. News Source: Green Car Reports Green Lexus Toyota Hybrid PHEV
Toyota's Lentz says fuel cells are the future, not EVs
Sun, 25 May 2014Toyota is not bullish on EVs. That comes from the company's North American CEO, Jim Lentz, who said the company will focus not on electrification, but on continued hybridization with a long-term focus on hydrogen fuel cells.
Lentz questioned the long-range ability of EVs, saying that Toyota feels "there are better alternatives, such as hybrids and plug-in hybrids, and tomorrow with fuel cells." Lentz spoke about Toyota's focus on hydrogen following Forbes Brainstorm Green conference and barely a week after a battery deal between Tesla and Toyota ended, according to Automotive News.
That deal provided for 2,500 battery packs for the Rav4 EV. While valuable to Toyota, the deal "was never about open-ended volume," Lentz said. "It was time to either continue or stop. My personal feeling was that I would rather invest my dollars in fuel cell development than in another 2,500 EVs."
General Motors became second-largest US advertiser in 2013
Fri, 28 Mar 2014General Motors might be mired in several recalls, as well as the ongoing investigations from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Congress into the automaker's response to those recalls. However, the company can celebrate taking the title of the US' second-largest advertiser in 2013. According to Ad Week examining a recently released study, total advertising spending in the US posted its fourth consecutive year of rising expenditures with 0.9-percent growth to $140.2 billion. Of that, the auto industry spent $15.2 billion to promote its goods in 2013, up 3.8 percent.
The country's biggest advertiser was Procter and Gamble, which dropped $3.17 billion in 2013, an increase of 11.8 percent. GM became the nation's second largest promoter with $1.794 billion in spending, up 10 percent. The biggest proportion of that money went to sell Cadillac and GMC. AT&T barely lost out with $1.793 billion in advertising, 15.2 percent growth. The 10 businesses with the highest ad investments spent a cumulative $15.9 billion during the year, 6.6 percent higher than 2012. Toyota came in eighth place making it the only other automaker to rank in the top 10.
The study also indicates that there is a shift in advertising spending from television and print to the Internet. There was 15.7 percent more money outlaid to promote products online in 2013 than the previous year. In comparison, television dropped 0.1 percent, newspapers were down 3.7 percent and radio fell 5.6 percent.
