This listing is for my 1996 Toyota Tacoma. I am the original owner of this vehicle. It has 145k miles on it. It is currently in great working order.

It's never been in an accident, and the mechanical repairs over the years have been minimal. It's been dinged a few times in a parking lot a few times over the years, but nothing major.

I am selling it because I do not drive it much anymore, as I typically take my car to work. It has been primarily driven in Utah where I used to live. In 2010, I moved to Kansas where I currently live. Since that time, it hasn't been driven much other than to take it around the neighborhood or to drive it to the hardware store. In fact it hasn't been registered in Kansas even though I've lived here for almost 4 years. Shortly after we moved here, I purchased a car and have primarily driven it to and fro. Since I didn't drive it much, I never bothered to get it registered here in Kansas.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I will attempt to list everything that has happened to this truck since it was new: I have had the fuel pump replaced a couple of times - once in 2003, and again in 2007, as well as had the starter rebuilt about 10 yrs ago. But other than than, there has been no other needed mechanical repairs other than basic maintenance (tires, battery replacement, spark plugs, fluid replacement, etc.) There is a dent on the side of the bed on the passenger's side. I was hit in a parking lot about 10 years ago and never got it fixed. About 15 years ago, I was also hit in a parking lot and the original tailgate was damaged beyond repair. The current tailgate is an aftermarket product. I also never bothered to get the "TOYOTA" stenciling redone on the tailgate which is something that is standard for the 1996 model. The rear bumper was also damaged at the same time, but its damage appeared to be minimal, so I never bothered to fix it. You can see for yourself in the pictures.

It breaks my heart to sell it since I've had it for so long, but the practical side of me outweighs the emotional side of me. It just makes sense to sell it because the truck is not really adding any value by sitting there collecting dust. So, it's just time to sell it.

If you are interested in talking over the phone, please send me a note and we can arrange to talk. I will absolutely not turn over the keys or title until I have received a full payment or wire transfer that has been confirmed by my bank. Within 24 hours after the auction ends, I will require a $500 deposit. The rest will need to be paid within one week.

You are responsible to set up and pay for your own shipping arrangements. Having said that, I will attempt to be as accommodating as is reasonable, because I know it can't be too easy to ship a truck around the country.

Please let me know if you have questions.

Toyota, Mazda form electric car technology venture

Thu, Sep 28 2017

TOKYO — Toyota has established a new venture to develop electric vehicle technology with partner Mazda, seeking to catch up with rivals in an increasingly frenetic race to produce more battery-powered cars. Policymakers in key markets like China are pushing a shift to electric cars over the next two to three decades, while relatively new rival Tesla is gaining momentum and diesel cars are going through the fallout of the Volkswagen diesel scandal, pressuring traditional automakers to crank up plans for fully electric vehicles (EVs). At the same time, declining battery costs are enabling more power to be packed into cars, making an electric car future easier to imagine. Toyota said in a statement the new company will develop technology for a range of electric cars, including mini vehicles, passenger cars, SUVs and light trucks. Toyota will take a 90 percent stake in the joint venture, called EV Common Architecture Spirit Co Ltd, while Mazda and Denso Corp, Toyota's biggest supplier, will each take 5 percent. The plans build on a partnership announced in August when Japan's biggest automaker agreed to take a 5 percent stake in Mazda and two said they would jointly develop affordable electric vehicle technologies. Although Toyota is providing most of the financial firepower and existing EV know-how, Mazda's engineers have gained the admiration of the industry with breakthrough technologies such as its compression ignition engine announced last month. Shares in Mazda surged to end the day 3 percent higher, while those in Denso rose 1.8 percent. Toyota shares were flat. Both automakers are somewhat behind rivals, with neither having a fully electric passenger car on the market yet. After years of focusing on bringing hydrogen fuel cell vehicles to the market, Toyota last year set up a division to develop electric cars which is led by President Akio Toyoda, and said it plans to introduce EVs in China in the coming years. Toyota has also announced it will bring a game-changing solid-state EV battery to market by 2022. That division would continue as a separate entity from the new joint venture, a Toyota spokeswoman said, while adding that the two teams would co-operate on technology development. Mazda has an R&D budget a fraction of Toyota's, which has made it difficult to develop electric cars on its own. Even so, it has said it plans to launch EVs in 2020.

Toyota to buck engine downsizing trend, may go larger and turbo-free

Mon, 14 Oct 2013

Turbocharging isn't really Toyota's specialty, and the Japanese automaker isn't being shy about acknowledging it. Koei Saga, a senior managing officer in charge of drivetrain research and development, says that eschewing turbos and increasing displacement of engines using the Atkinson cycle can produce better power gains without sacrificing fuel economy, Automotive News reports.
Toyota is investing heavily in larger-displacement Atkinson-cycle engines in addition to turbocharged engines, but Saga doesn't think the automaker will use turbocharging across many product lines. He apparently remains unconvinced that the technology "makes the world better."
In Toyota's eyes then, Atkinson cycle engines do make the world better, and here's how. Their pistons complete four processes - intake, compression, power and exhaust - in one revolution of the crankshaft, and the power stroke is longer than the compression stroke. Traditional Otto cycle engines require two crankshaft revolutions to accomplish those same four operations and have equal-length compression and power strokes. Atkinson cycle engines are more efficient, but less power dense, though increasing displacement can offset that shortfall.

2014 Toyota Camry to get 'significant' attention?

Sun, 24 Nov 2013

With competition from Ford, Chevrolet, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mazda and Nissan mounting, Toyota is getting set to unveil a refreshed version of its Camry sedan a mere two years after it was fully redesigned.
According to a report from Bloomberg, Toyota's move to freshen the still young Camry comes as it seeks to retain its US sales crown in the midsize segment. That desperation has lead to increased incentives and fleet sales in a bid to keep its title, all while trying to keep pace with a slew of very competent competitors.
"It's safe to say we'll be doing something with it," Bill Fay, group vice president of the Toyota brand in the US, told Bloomberg during last week's LA Auto Show. "We'll be paying significant attention to Camry next year."
