Up for auction is my wife's 1989 TOYOTA SUPRA. These are getting harder and harder to find. Car is in very good condition for the year and runs great. Oil will be changed before pickup (if there's a buyer). Tires Riken Raptors (awesome looking thread design) and are new at about 98% or more thread and wheels are in good condition. It has a blue clothe interior in really nice condition.Has an aftermarket radio (cd with remote) with power antenna. The car has factory rear wing.Full size factory spare (like brand new). It has the twin cam 7M-GE motor. It has a newer battery. Driver seat has a little wear on edge and stitched (very small, actually nothing) but other then that really nice. Car was painted years ago and looks good in silver. Has 1 ding in drivers fender side (not bad at all, small). Has some other really not noticeable ones but the driver fender is the worst and again, really it is nothing. Center reflector rear panel has a small chip and hairline crack. You probably would not notice it if I didn't say anything. Chip on very bottom and crack way on inside turn (again nothing for a car this age). Front lower spoiler has small screws on each side from being bumped. Would have replaced but not dealer available any more. It really is low and doesn't look bad. If not looking for it you would probably miss it. Headlight / turn signal switch acts up sometimes but I think it's from sitting for times. It's been fine. Most these things mean nothing and are nothing. Like I always say as my feedback speaks, I do not like surprises and don't give them to make a deal. Other people wouldn't list most all the things I do. I don't like getting shafted and others don't deserve it either. The trunk floor has a small rust hole in rear tire area (on bottom under tire) as seen in picture. I did not fix it to cover it up. Original owner must have left hatch partially open or gasket was bad parked at weird angle (this is my only opinion). The hatch shocks are bad and the hood shocks are weak (work and don't sometime). If someone uses buy it now I will replace all 4 but again only with BUY IT NOW OPTION. Cars a runner and a looker for a classic. Thanks for looking STREET - BURNERS and keep me in your favorites for as always AWESOME STUFF !!!! Vehicle sold AS-IS with NO WARRANTY. A $300.00 n0n-refundable paypal deposit is due within 24 hours of auction end to assure holding it for you. Balance due in cash at time of pickup. If a bank cashiers check needs to be used it will totally have to clear with my bank (no matter how long it takes) to assure me the funds are there before car leave my home. shipping is buyers responsibility for any damage that happens and for any fees. Good luck and keep looking for awesome stuff. THANKS !!!!!!

Former NHTSA chief may lead automaker-backed Takata investigation
Fri, Feb 6 2015An automaker-led effort may see the former head of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration take on the probe into the Takata airbag inflator disaster. A coalition of at least ten automakers is in talks with former NHTSA administrator David Kelly, with unnamed sources familiar with the discussions telling The Wall Street Journal he is "among those we are considering to coordinate" the investigation. The Detroit News, meanwhile, is reporting he could be hired "in the coming days." Takata, the Japanese seatbelt and airbag manufacturer, has been the center of a defect scandal since last year. Takata is under fire for air bag inflators that can explode, shooting out metal and plastic pieces. At least five deaths and dozens of injuries have been linked to the problem worldwide. Earlier this year, Honda Motor Co., the automaker with the biggest exposure to the defective Takata air bags, was fined $70 million in the U.S. for not reporting to regulators some 1,729 complaints that its vehicles caused deaths and injuries, and for not reporting warranty claims. It was the largest civil penalty levied against an automaker. Should he take the role, Kelly would be at the fore of an investigation being assembled by an alliance of ten automakers, which includes the Detroit Three and Honda. Toyota first suggested a joint investigation back in December, The Journal reports. Kelly's goals, meanwhile, will be many. The Detroit News reports that questions abound regarding not only the recalled airbag inflators and the conditions that cause them to fail, but the whether the replacement units will have similar problems in the future. The automaker committee is far from the only one analyzing the airbag issue. Takata has assembled its own panel, led by former Secretary of Transportation Samuel Skinner, while NHTSA's deputy administrator, David Friedman, has brought in an outside engineering firm to investigate the inflators, The Detroit News reports. Separately, on Friday Takata Corp., the Japanese seatbelt and air-bag maker at the center of a defect scandal, is expecting more red ink for the fiscal year through March. It is projecting a 31 billion yen ($264 million) loss, worse than the previous forecast for a 25 billion yen ($214 million) loss, despite higher sales expected for the fiscal year. Ten automakers have recalled about 12 million vehicles in the U.S. and about 19 million globally for problems with the air bags.
DoJ fines Japanese parts firms $740M in massive automotive price-fixing scandal
Fri, 27 Sep 2013Nine Japanese suppliers have pleaded guilty in US court over charges of price fixing in the automotive parts industry, resulting in the Department of Justice doling out a total of $740 million of fines, according to a report from Bloomberg. The scandal, which has resulted in General Motors, Ford, Toyota and Chrysler spending up to $5 billion on inflated parts and driving up prices on 25 million vehicles has sent the DoJ hustling into investigations. "The conduct this investigation uncovered involved more than a dozen separate conspiracies aimed at the U.S. economy," Attorney General Eric Holder (pictured above) said during yesterday's press conference.
As the investigation stands, the DoJ has issued $1.6 billion in fines against 20 companies and 21 individual executives, with 17 of the execs headed to prison. Deputy Assistant Attorney General Scott Hammond said, "The breadth of the conspiracies brought to light today are as egregious as they are pervasive. They involve more than a dozen separate conspiracies operating independently but all sharing in common that they targeted US automotive manufacturers."
Big-name suppliers indicted in the investigation include Mitsubishi Electric, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Hitachi Automotive and Mitsuba Corporation. A list of fines and other corporations named in the investigation is available at Bloomberg.
Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid and EV Buyer's Guide: Which one do you want?
Fri, Nov 10 2017If you're shopping for a new vehicle these days, there's a litany of acronyms, buzzwords, and technobabble to further complicate an already difficult decision. But if you're looking at a green powertrain, you have three basic choices to compare: hybrid, plug-in hybrid and "EV" or, electric vehicle. So what are they and which one — if any — is right for you? Research your next new vehicle using Autoblog's Car Finder. Gasoline-Electric Hybrids By now, most people are familiar with the concept of a hybrid car. Thank Toyota's Prius for that. At its most basic, a hybrid vehicle has two powertrains, one gasoline and one electric, which work together for maximum efficiency. At low speeds, the engine can shut off entirely, relying solely on the battery for propulsion. The battery is either charged as you drive by converting kinetic energy into potential energy via a complex regenerative braking system, or directly off of the gas motor. This is a very hands-off, behind-the-scenes system as all the driver has to is put in gas and drive as normal. Hybrids come in all shapes and sizes and, according to the EPA, range in fuel economy from 58 mpg for the Hyundai Ioniq Blue all the way down to 13 mpg for the Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta. Best For: Anyone who want to see their fuel consumption go down without many sacrifices. You can easily find a hybrid sedan, hatchback, crossover, SUV or even a pickup truck (i f you can find one). Best of all, a hybrid requires no special equipment to be installed at home, or added work for the driver. Hybrids do cost more than traditionally-powered competitors, so make sure to compare projected fuel savings with how much extra a hybrid will cost – it may take a surprisingly long time to break even. The EPA provides a handy calculator for this very purpose. Our Favorite Hybrids: 2017 Toyota Prius 2018 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid 2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid Plug-In Hybrids Sometimes referred to as a PHEV, or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, this is a baby-step towards full electrification. Armed with a much larger battery pack than a hybrid, PHEVs can go between 12 ( Mercedes-Benz GLE550e) and 97 ( BMW i3 w/Range Extender) miles on electricity alone depending on the model and your driving style. Like a normal hybrid, the driver is largely unaware of which power source is currently in use, even as they switch over — either because the battery is drained, or the driving circumstances require more power.
