I'm the second owner of this 2010 Toyota Prius.  It's in good condition with about 78,000 miles.  I bought it from the original owner (a doctor).  I've driven this on quite a few long trips.  It drives great, gets amazing gas mileage, and is EXTREMELY reliable.  I've never had an issue.  My local Toyota dealership did a free test on the battery and found it to be in excellent condition with minimal degradation.  They told they only replaced 2 batteries on the 3rd generation Prius.  Both batteries had more than 200,000 miles.

FEATURES:

Features include:  Gray leather seats, bluetooth, power windows/locks, upgraded JBL stereo system, cruise, XM satellite radio.  It has the push button start with smart key.  You can keep your key in your pocket or purse.  Awesome feature.

CONDITION:

It has wear and tear typical of a car of its age and mileage.  It has some dings, dents, and scratches.  It looks great though and still shines like a new car.  No accidents!  There is a small, repaired hole in the driver's seat base (caused by a small key attached to a belt loop).  OEM leather was placed between the hole and cushion.

CONFESSIONS FROM A FORMER PRIUS HATER:

I used to get stuck behind Priuses no matter where I went.  I used to curse the name. However, my wife and I rented one during a vacation and we loved it. So, I bought a used one to be my wife's car.  I'm now sold on the Prius. These are the reasons:

  • It's easy to drive.  Turning radius is significantly better than any car I've driven.  Steering is smooth and seamless.  It has ample power.  In power mode, it drives like a normal car.
  • It's fun to play with the hybrid system. You can play with the power and watch the mileage go up.  If you are in heavy traffic, switch to EV mode.  While everyone is frustrated over the traffic and idling car, this car is operating off of its self-generated electrical power.  The regenerative brakes reduce wear and tear on your brake pads while charging the battery.
  • It's well made.  I'm a Honda fan and unfortunately, this Toyota's fit and finish has Honda beat.  The interior screams quality.  Exterior sheet metal is light, but the car feels solid.
  • It's very roomy.  Back seats fold flat.  Cargo area is almost the same as a small SUV.  If you want to throw a lawn mower in there, you can.  If you're going on a weekend trip, it holds a ton of suitcases even with one of the rear seats up.
  • Cost of ownership is unbelievably low.  Suppose your driving a 15 MPG SUV and you drive 20 miles each way to work.  It costs you about $10/day for gasoline.  With the Prius, that commute now costs $2.50/day.  This car saves $45/week - $195/month - $2300/year.  I've ranged between 50-65 MPG in mixed driving.  It's actually quite hard to get lower than 50 MPG.  Depreciation is less than $1,000/year.

PAYMENT:

Payment is via certified check or cash only.  I have the title clear in my name.  The price is very good.  It is LESS than dealer auction prices!  You can probably find one with a lower price, but buyer beware - be very cautious of the prior rental Priuses and those with salvage or rebuilt titles.

Lost power in a winter storm? Just hook up a Toyota Prius like this guy did

Thu, Jan 9 2014

The Toyota Prius' battery pack just got something like a five-star rating from a truly seasoned professional – a 50-year aircraft technician. Bob Osemlak, who'd served more than three of those five decades with the Canadian Air Force, brought electricity back to his home in December during a heavy ice storm thanks to his gas-electric car. His ingenuity allowed him to turn on lights, furnace, refrigerator and the TV. The Thornhill, Ontario resident lost power for nearly a day on December 21 – not nearly as much as millions of other people hit by the recent storm - and so he still set about using his Prius for backup power, according to EV World. His ingenuity allowed him to turn on lights, furnace, refrigerator and the TV. Being an aircraft technician for so long brought Osemlak the ability to home-brew his V2H set-up that he urges other people to avoid, for safety reasons. He had planned for a potential power outage by installing an outlet on his furnace and, when the storm struck, he ran a cord through the basement window to the car. During the nine hours Osemlak used his Prius for backup power, the car's fuel gauge only reduced less than one bar, or roughly the equivalent of a gallon of gasoline. It wasn't the first time Osemlak had played with his vehicle. In the 1960s, while stationed in Winnepeg, Manitoba, he created a car starter. Every hour, the car would start up and run for 10 minutes to avoid being frozen solid in frigid winter temperatures. 2014 Toyota Tundra appears with revised styling, same mechanicals

Thu, 07 Feb 2013

Toyota has pulled the curtain back on its 2014 Tundra, showing a truck that has gotten its most significant refresh since its launch as a 2007 model. For better or worse, however, the changes that Toyota has made to the fullsize pickup are mostly cosmetic, with the underpinnings of the vehicle staying unchanged.
The most obvious revision for 2014 is to the bluff front fascia of the truck. There's a new, taller squared-off grille decorating the Tundra's nose, along with a revised, three-part front bumper design. The optional black grille-frame strikes us as an acquired taste, to say the least, but other models, like the Limited above, is all clad in chrome. Fenders and wheel wells are more square than in the out-going truck, too. Perhaps most significant is the revised bed design, which Toyota calls "all-new," with new sheet metal on the sides, a revised tailgate and a very subtle integrated spoiler.
Inside, Toyota has given buyers some new seats and a new-look instrument panel. A backup camera (always handy on big trucks) is now standard equipment on all grades, as is Bluetooth connectivity. Blind spot monitoring is a new, optional feature as well. In all, as with the exterior mods, the changes in-cabin are far more evolutionary than revolutionary.

Volvo, Kia and BYD duke it out in the finals for World Car of 2024

Mon, Feb 26 2024

Three electric vehicles — none produced by an American manufacturer — will compete next month for the title of 2024 World Car of the Year, it was announced Monday. The finalists are the Kia EV9, the Volvo EX30 and the BYD Seal (shown above). The latter two are built in China. The three top finalists in five other categories were also named at the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland. The winners in all six categories will be revealed live during an awards ceremony at the New York International Auto Show on March 27. This year marks the 20th year of the World Car Awards and the partnership with the New York show. Besides car of the year, the other finalists are: Electric vehicle: BMW i5, Kia EV9, Volvo EX30; Luxury car: BMW 5 Series/i5, Mercedes Benz E-Class, Mercedes Benz EQE SUV; Performance car: BMW M2, BMW XM, Hyundai Ionia 5 N; Urban car: BYD Dolphin, Lexus LBX, Volvo EX30; World Car Design: Ford Bronco, Ferrari Purosangue, Toyota Prius. Only Ford among U.S. companies has an entry in the final selections, and only in one category, design, for the Bronco. BMW has four vehicles in the finals, Volvo has three, Kia and Mercedes have two each. BYD from China has two entries as well. The Seal went on sale in in its home market in 2022 and is now available in most of the rest of the world. The BYD Co. (which stands for Build Your Dreams) has surpassed Tesla to become the worldÂ’s biggest maker of electric vehicles, and has its sights set on the U.S. The selection process for World Cars involves 100-plus automotive journalists from 29 countries who vote, as they review and test-drive the eligible vehicles for the 2024 awards. Their journey is captured virtually on World Car TV. Design/Style Geneva Motor Show BMW Ferrari Ford Hyundai Kia Lexus Mercedes-Benz Toyota Volvo Best Cars World Car of the Year
