2009 Prius 5D Hatchback Standard w/ Lojack - $16,000/obo

Come get your very own quintessential hybrid. This Prius has very low mileage and is very clean. Very easy and comfortable to drive. The first thing you'll notice is how very QUIET it is to drive with its Hybrid-Synergy drive. The Prius is certified as a Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV) and Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emission Vehicle (AT-PZEV). 5-star front-crash safety rating with front SRS and side-curtain airbags. The electric motor and gas engine produces a combined 110HP, but at a stop, the electric motor alone produces 295 lb-ft of torque, meaning you actually get good acceleration. The continuously variable transmission allows the car to run at the most efficient RPM while never feeling the transmission shift.

I am the original owner of this Prius that has less than 38,000 miles (I was lucky enough to live near work). The backup camera takes some getting used to but lets you parallel park without having to “feel” the other cars. Smart Key entry system is to die for (never take your keys out of your pocket/bag again!!) It also has an included LoJack system to let you know your car has moved before you even find out (including if your car is ever towed). Never been in an accident, though there is one minor dent in the rear quarter panel from an inconsiderate parking garage patron (visible in the photos). The 10 gallon fuel tank means it will never cost a lot to fill the tank.

This is a very nice car to own, though it's time for me to transition to being a one-car family. If my family still needed two cars, I would never be getting rid of this car. My driving has yielded an actual 44 MPG over its life, with about 50/50 highway/city driving. If you frequently drive in moderate traffic (averaging 40MPH or so), you can actually get 75MPG on the highway (the only benefit to being stuck in traffic). I have kept this car very clean and cleaned it some more so the lucky new owner can enjoy it in the same condition I got it in.

Features include: 2009 Prius - Magnetic Gray Metallic (including package 4) JBL premium sound with multi-disc CD changer including MP3/WMA and aux input, back-up camera, HID headlamps, power and heated side mirrors, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, bluetooth phone integration, Homelink universal garage door remote, power windows, power locks, ABS traction control system, cloth seats, anti-theft system, integrated fog lamps, cruise control, vehicle stability control, 60/40 split folding rear seats, tilt steering with climate and audio controls integrated, direct tire pressure monitoring system.

Don't worry about being hassled at a dealership, e-mail Jesse or call: 434-535-2460 to make an offer, ask a question, or to get a copy of the Carfax report.

We can talk about shipping, but local pickup would be far easier.

NHTSA releases updated Takata airbag recalled cars list, but it still has errors

Wed, 22 Oct 2014

Unfortunately, the government's list still contains errors.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued an updated list of vehicle models that it's urging owners to repair under the mushrooming Takata airbag inflator recall. The latest version adds vehicles from new automakers like Subaru and Ford that are missing from the original announcement, and it also removes erroneous entries from General Motors, leaving only the 2005 Saab 9-2X (a reskinned Subaru WRX), and the 2003-2005 Pontiac Vibe, a joint project with Toyota.

Best cars for snow and ice in 2023 and 2024

Tue, Jan 23 2024

What's the best car for snow? The real answer is "the one with winter tires." What do we mean by that? You could have the finest, most advanced all-wheel-drive system or four-wheel drive in the world, but if you're running all-seasons (the spork of tires), your fancy four-wheeler won't matter much. The odds are, any vehicle on the road running good winter tires will probably perform adequately in slippery, slushy and/or snowy road conditions. (Here's a more complete explanation of why winter tires are totally worth it). In other words, you don't really need any of the cars on this list. With a set of winter tires, countless others will do the job, and even these will be at their best with proper rubber. You can find a variety of winter tires for your car here at Tire Rack. Keep in mind that you will need a full set of four snow tires for safety and performance, no matter what you're driving. The days of your dad putting just two snows on the family truckster to get it moving in a straight line are long gone. Don't get us wrong, getting a car that performs well in snow and ice is still a worthy criteria for car buyers. According to the U.S. Transportation Department, 70% of Americans live in places that get snow and ice. And much of the country has been blasted with arctic air for much of the new year. So let's look at the cars. First, we're highlighting choices for a variety of buyers and price points. Second, we're not just considering snow; we're considering general wintery conditions people will experience driving to work or school. As such, these are all choices with advanced all-wheel-drive systems, usually with "torque-vectoring" systems that not only automatically shunt power front and back, but side to side between the rear axles. Most have extra ground clearance for getting through deep snow, and we prefer those vehicles with more responsive steering, throttles and transmissions that provide a greater sense of vehicle control in slippery conditions.    Acura RDX Read our Acura RDX Review Acura's Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive system was one of the first to offer torque-vectoring, and besides often being touted for its ability to greatly enhanced dry-road handling, its benefits in the slick stuff can be profound. It's actually surprising that Acura hasn't leaned into this capability further by offering more rugged versions of its vehicles.

Toyota investing $30 million in Indiana for more Highlander production

Sun, 28 Jul 2013

Indiana seems like the place to be if you're looking for work in a car factory. In May, Subaru announced plans to invest $400 million in its Lafayette, Indiana plant, creating 900 new jobs in the process and increasing capacity to 300,000 units per year. Now, Toyota has announced plans to invest $30 million in its Princeton, Indiana plant, 170 miles south of the Subaru factory, which also builds the Camry.
Toyota's investment will create an additional 200 jobs and increase the factory's volume by 15,000 units. Toyota announced an investment in the plant in February of 2012 that bumped volume up from 300,000 to 350,000 units. Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana, as the Princeton facility is officially known, produces the recently revised Toyota Highlander, the Sequoia and the Sienna. It employs 4,500 people, and this announcement represents Toyota's tenth production increase in under two years.
