Thanks for the interest in my 1988 Landcruiser.   For more information and pictures of this, or any other car/truck/Rover/diesel engine kit I have available, please type 'laughs and lashings' into a Google search, and my site will be the first page to come up.    Give it a browse, and if you mention you saw this there, I'll knock $200 off your winning bid.   I have a shop/ warehouse in Portland, Oregon and I import cool old diesel Land Rovers and other unusual cars from England as well as diesel engines for diesel conversions here. I recently went to the UK to buy stock/ a couple vehicles to send back to myself and this LandCruiser was one of the trucks that I have imported. TRUCK IS HERE AT MY SHOP IN PORTLAND, OREGON NOW.

BEFORE YOU BID,   I ask that you read the entire ad,  and by bidding on this truck you agree to all the terms and conditions I have described here.   If you bid,  you agree to pay a $1000 deposit at the conclusion of this auction, and pay the balance owed within 5 days, no exceptions (unless you make other arrangements with me before bidding) .     If you can not collect in person but choose to have it transported, the truck must be paid in full before it leaves my possession.   I just took the truck to DMV and submitted all paperwork, the title will be mailed to me within 30 days.     If you have less than 10 feedback, you must contact me before bidding with your contact information like phone # or email address so I can contact you, otherwise I will have to retract your bid.   Sorry, but too many people with zero feedback have bid, won, and then disappeared and this is a very frustrating waste of time and money.    Thank you for understanding.   If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me here to discuss.   I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO END THIS AUCTION AT ANY TIME For a local sale.   The truck is for sale here, too -   and I can pull the auction at any time.   If you are serious about buying this I suggest you buy it now, and contact me to discuss.   Now, onto the truck!

The truck is a 1988 Short Wheelbase turbo-diesel LJ70 .   VIN# is JT1V0LJ7009031811, which the ebay robot does not seem to recognize as it is a non-US VIN#, so I was forced to enter '1980' as model year, but it IS A 1988!   It has low miles (128K) Has only 70K on its engine (Was replaced with a rebuilt @ 50K) , and it starts, runs, drives and stops as it should. It is plenty zippy and returns about 32MPG on a run, and 25-28 in town. Has Toyota 2L-T turbo-diesel engine. Has all the looks and feel of late 1980s ' Hi Tech' Toyota fare - You will recognize the switches, seats and looks. Yes, it is RHD - Amusing for a while, but you will probably find, like me, you always walk up to the wrong side of the truck to get in.

Only problems with the truck are that the wipers are running off of a separate switch (I can fix this for you easily enough) , and the power steering has a leaky hose (I can also fix this once here for you). Fuel gauge is inaccurate below a half-tank (Can also fix!) - That is it. Otherwise truck has been in daily use until I bought it.

The truck looks very good, is very solid. It does have a rust spot on one corner of the sunroof- please see the photos. There are a couple other small spots of surface rust to address if you want the truck to be perfect.  THE FRAME IS ABSOLUTELY PERFECT however, and there is none of the usual door rust/ inner fender problems/ etc,   truck is totally solid except for the areas mentioned.  This truck was never available in the USA, and only just became eligible to import. It is all stock, and looks and runs great. If you are reading this ad, I assume you know what this is, and how rare it is to find one.

Truck has a clear Oregon title with 'diesel' indicated as fuel type. Guaranteed.   Will be able to register/ title and drive legally in all 50 states.

There is a small tear in the driver's seat,  as pictured.   Drivers side front fender flare has a smallish crack/hole in it (fiberglass- see photos please), and there are a few small stone chips on the front and in the back which have small spots of surface rust showing.  Passenger side rear flare has a spot where a strap rubbed on the way here in the container. Easy to sand and paint, over all very nice-- headliner is perfect,  tires are good.  Sunroof works perfectly and does not leak.  Drives very well!    Paint is original to the truck as is interior and mechanical layout, although engine is a lower-mileage fresh replacement.

The last one of these I had at the beginning of the Summer sold quickly for 12000 dollars, I expect to get something close to that for this truck.   My other one was an automatic, and I would imagine the 5-speed to be more desirable.

Due to the mind-boggling amount of net bots, aspiring scam artists and people who just want to chat about cars, I ask that if you are interested in this truck (or any of the others I am selling) that you please include your phone # in your message to me, and compose a intelligent, polite and brief email. Emails like "Is it available?" or "I'll take it, call me" will be ignored. I also ask that you only contact me/ bid if you are genuinely interested in buying a truck, have your finances in order, have your wife's permission, and can be polite and courteous.   You are welcome to call me at 503-810-4713 to discuss.

Please check my other auctions for more vehicles I am selling like the Range Rover LWB Turbo diesel,   1976 Land Rover FC101 Forward Control,  and 1999 Discovery 1 300tdi/ automatic conversion.      Always looking for a nice Citroen, too -  If you have one you would like to do some trading with I would give credit towards this truck...

Thank you in advance -

Toyota officially outsells GM, VW through first three quarters

Tue, 29 Oct 2013

When it comes to global vehicle deliveries, the term "Big Three" doesn't apply to Ford, Chrysler and General Motors, but instead Toyota, GM and Volkswagen - in that order - through the third quarter of 2013. Toyota sold 7.41-million vehicles through the third quarter and is on track to deliver more vehicles this year than GM and VW, which sold 7.25-million and 7.03-million, respectively, through the same period, Bloomberg reports.
During the third quarter, from July to September, Toyota's 2.5-million deliveries helped to push it higher than its closest competitors this year. In that period, GM delivered 2.4-million vehicles while VW posted 2.33-million deliveries.
Part of the reason behind Toyota's and other Japanese automakers resurgence globally is the weakened yen, which can be attributed to policies made by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe since he took office in December 2012. Many refer to those monetary easing policies as 'Abenomics,' which has led some, such as Ford, to call Japan a currency manipulator and is a big reason why the US is lobbying to oppose Japan's entry into the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).

Toyota plans $126M expansion of MI R&D facility

Fri, Dec 19 2014

Toyota has just announced that it will be investing $126 million to expand its operations in and around Ann Arbor, MI. The move will add around 85 jobs. In addition to expanding its Ann Arbor powertrain research and development facility (shown above), Toyota will also establish a new facility for vehicle development at its York Township facility. The move will allow the company to centralize its operations, "increasing their scope, responsibility and decision-making ability," Toyota said in a statement. "Centralizing our vehicle development and powertrain functions here in Michigan is beneficial for our decision-making process and allows us to better respond to changes in the marketplace while improving the speed at which we can offer technology advances to customers," says Ed Mantey, the senior VP at the Toyota Tech Center. This is Toyota's second investment in the Ann Arbor area in barely a year, as it made a $28 million investment late in 2013. Scroll down for the official press release from Toyota. More Toyota in the Motor City Toyota Technical Center to consolidate development operations December 18, 2014 Ann Arbor, Mich. (Dec. 18, 2014) – Toyota announced today that it is planning another expansion of its Southeast Michigan R&D campuses. This marks the third time in just over a year that Toyota has announced plans to increase employment and investment in Michigan. Today's announcement features a total investment of $126 million for the expansion of Toyota's powertrain operations at its Ann Arbor campus and the consolidation of vehicle development operations at a new facility on its York Township campus. Both vehicle development and powertrain functions will become centralized in Michigan, increasing their scope, responsibility and decision-making ability while providing improved communication and access to the company's direct procurement division. Approximately 85 jobs will relocate to Michigan from California by the end of 2016 as a part of the move. In late 2013, Toyota announced a $28 million expansion of its Ann Arbor operations and earlier this year announced the addition of 250 direct procurement and supplier engineering development positions currently based in Erlanger, Ky. "The Technical Center continues to be a vital part of our growing North American operations that enables Toyota to package greater value for our customers," said Ed Mantey, senior vice president at the Toyota Technical Center.
