1982 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ43 For sale. Entered as 1980 because Ebay will not recognize shorter VIN#

This Toyota spent all its life in a dry warmer weather where trucks are prone to rust less and much lower mileage than American trucks.

This truck was totally restored 5 years ago, although the condition before the restoration was pretty clean, with original parts, and mechanical perfect the car had some body imperfections and a frame off restoration was ordered for this truck.

Since the restoration my dad had put around 25K kilometres on it.

He built his truck to be a reliable vehicle on the top of the driver scale. This truck was a solid rust free start, with stock components.  1980-84 years are the desired FJ40 family trucks. This one being Fj43 is even more rare than the others. The body is slightly larger and it gives a better stance than the fj40. The 2F engine, transmission and differentials are the same.

This particular truck features power steering, factory disc front brakes, 4.10 gears, 4 speed transmission, and very desirable soft top. After 1980 these Toyota trucks had better and prettier doors and overall better design, they also appreciate in value the best.  We have owned this truck since 1992 since then is being driven it often but never hardcore offroad. The next owner can take it up a gravel road, or city driver.  It was built as a museum piece 5 years ago, but now it has small scratches and normal wear from being driven.

The 2F engines along with the 3F engine are the best Toyota Gasoline engines. This truck is very reliable and strong.

BODY

This truck is completely rust free. All the panels are clean and steel. There are no funny Aluminum pieces on this truck, FJ40’s are notorious for rust, it is incredible to find rust free trucks like this.

The body is true and straight with no hidden rust, or the common ugly black gravel lining paint underneath of the car to cover rust. The paint is beautiful and shinny, It has 2 small scratches that happened during transportation (they have been retouched, see pic) This truck looks much better in person than in the pics.  New door seals, inner door panels, original Toyota mats are in perfect shape. Seats had been upholstered to original specifications.

The interior is very clean and in excellent shape, everything works as it should. It has a rare larger jump seats, 6 people can fit comfortable in this truck. Tools and jack are included. The original radio was damaged and the current one is just filling the whole but is not functional.

No heather on this truck, it came like this from factory but one can be easily sourced and installed if needed for colder States.

The Soft top has aged nicely but if desired, a brand new top can be bought for extra $1300 (same beige color and design, light gray can be an option as well). There are no leaks inside when it is raining. I can also source a hard top if you want to go that route.

MECHANICALS

This Fj43 has a stock Toyota inline 2F motor with excellent compression that burns clean. It is low kilometer truck, only 216.000 original kilometers, which is about 135000 ORIGINAL miles. This engines are known to go over 500.000 miles easy.

I recently changed all filters, coolant, oil and a new water pump installed. The carburetor and clutch were changed for new ones during the restoration.  The clutch, 4 speed trans and case all operate perfectly. Brakes are in good shape.

Original 16 in wheels with tires that still have some tread.  There are no aftermarket installations, therefore no splits on the electrical harness or electrical headaches.

There are no big issues with this truck, this is the type of Toyota you want to buy, honest, rust free stock original.  This truck is a joy to drive and will provide years of trouble free service with proper care and maintenance, but please expect to tinker like any other vintage vehicle from time to time. There is nothing pending to do on this truck at this moment.

This truck is registered in Vancouver BC. I will give you a registration and a bill of sale. It is sold “as is” no warranty.

I require $500 non-refundable deposit in 24 hrs of ending auction. Please pick up between 8 days or advise any delays (I can hold the truck for longer period buy full payment is expected). This car is parked under heated garage. Inspections are welcome.

I can assist to ship this truck to Canada, Mexico USA or any other country as long it is legal to be imported. Please contact me with any question or if want to see the truck in person. Drive test is available for serious buyers.

Please do not bid if you don’t intent to buy or have the funds to pay. If you do not have EBay feedback, please contact me before bidding or I will cancel your bid.

The UK votes for Brexit and it will impact automakers

Fri, Jun 24 2016

It's the first morning after the United Kingdom voted for what's become known as Brexit – that is, to leave the European Union and its tariff-free internal market. Now begins a two-year process in which the UK will have to negotiate with the rest of the EU trading bloc, which is its largest export market, about many things. One of them may be tariffs, and that could severely impact any automaker that builds cars in the UK. This doesn't just mean companies that you think of as British, like Mini and Jaguar. Both of those automakers are owned by foreign companies, incidentally. Mini and Rolls-Royce are owned by BMW, Jaguar and Land Rover by Tata Motors of India, and Bentley by the VW Group. Many other automakers produce cars in the UK for sale within that country and also export to the EU. Tariffs could damage the profits of each of these companies, and perhaps cause them to shift manufacturing out of the UK, significantly damaging the country's resurgent manufacturing industry. Autonews Europe dug up some interesting numbers on that last point. Nissan, the country's second-largest auto producer, builds 475k or so cars in the UK but the vast majority are sent abroad. Toyota built 190k cars last year in Britain, of which 75 percent went to the EU and just 10 percent were sold in the country. Investors are skittish at the news. The value of the pound sterling has plummeted by 8 percent as of this writing, at one point yesterday reaching levels not seen since 1985. Shares at Tata Motors, which counts Jaguar and Land Rover as bright jewels in its portfolio, were off by nearly 12 percent according to Autonews Europe. So what happens next? No one's terribly sure, although the feeling seems to be that the jilted EU will impost tariffs of up to 10 percent on UK exports. It's likely that the UK will reciprocate, and thus it'll be more expensive to buy a European-made car in the UK. Both situations will likely negatively affect the country, as both production of new cars and sales to UK consumers will both fall. Evercore Automotive Research figures the combined damage will be roughly $9b in lost profits to automakers, and an as-of-yet unquantified impact on auto production jobs. Perhaps the EU's leaders in Brussels will be in a better mood in two years, and the process won't devolve into a trade war. In the immediate wake of the Brexit vote, though, the mood is grim, the EU leadership is angry, and investors are spooked.

Recharge Wrap-up: Model X pinch sensor update, Karma plans first store

Fri, Aug 26 2016

Tesla has improved Model X pinch sensor function in its latest over-the-air update. As we've seen, the pinch sensors already stop the falcon wing doors from completely shutting when they sense an obstruction. Now, though, the doors retract slightly after the sensors are triggered. While the pre-update doors didn't appear to do as much damage to human fingers as they do to various foodstuffs, it definitely looked uncomfortable, especially when one's hand is stuck in the partially closed door. Now, any pinch that does occur should be brief. See the updated sensors at work in the video above, and read more from Teslarati. Karma Automotive will move to Kawasaki's former headquarters in Irvine, California where it will also open its first store. The revival of the now defunct Fisker will sell its Revero plug-in hybrid through both dealerships and company-owned stores like the one planned for its new two-building campus. The property owner, Bixby, had planned to renovate the site, but now says Karma will make its own improvements. Bixby said it was seeking, "a progressive-minded tenant that would value the unique configuration," and appears to have found just that in Karma. Read more at Electrek, or from the OC Register. San Francisco is asking residents for help in expanding its subways. Using an online tool called Subway Vision, users can draw their own subway lines and stations that they'd like to see built and submit them to planners. Listening to the public is a useful tool for the city because, as Grahm Satterwhite, San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency's principal planner, admits, "Transportation planners may be too close to a problem to see the solution." This approach allows the subway expansions to "reflect the vision of not just a few transportation planners, but of all San Franciscans," he says. Read more from FastCo.Exist. Toyota is continuing its commitment to Yellowstone National Park with a sustainable Youth Campus for environmental education. The automaker donated $1 million to Yellowstone for the facility, which is seeking Living Building Challenge certification. It will have onsite wastewater treatment for its locally sourced water usage, and will generate all of its electricity needs from photovoltaic panels, with excess to put back into the grid. The campus will have classrooms and residences for students and staff for its youth programs.

Recharge Wrap-up: Minnesota first to require biodiesel, maglev in Israel, Toyota FCV in Aspen

Thu, Jun 26 2014

A new Minnesota law that requires biodiesel blends goes into effect in just a few days, says KELO. Diesel drivers in Minnesota will be pumping soybeans into their tank beginning July 1. Every year, diesel will be sold as a B10 blend (ten percent biofuel) from April through August, and will scale back to a cold-hardy B5 blend from September through March. The biofuel largely comes from soybean crops grown within Minnesota, and the biodiesel industry pumps more than $900 million into the state economy every year. According to the National Biodiesel Board, using the B10 and B5 blends will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 1,342,000,000 pounds every year. Minnesota is the first state to require diesel to be sold as a biofuel blend. In Japan, Isuzu Motors and Japanese biotech venture Euglena are teaming up to create biodiesel using algae, according to Bloomberg Businessweek. The goal is to create a new type of fuel that doesn't need to be mixed with light oil to be used in engines. "As long as we use light oil for diesel engines, emissions of carbon dioxide are inevitable," says Isuzu president Susumu Hosoi. Euglena has also been using algae to develop jet fuel with airline operator ANA Holdings. Isuzu and Euglena hope to have the new biodiesel developed by 2018. Aerial maglev transportation is coming to the campus of a defense contractor in Tel Aviv, Israel, Wired reports. The SkyTran personal rapid transit system uses small pods on an elevated magnetic track to move people from place to place. The pilot program will see SkyTran come to the corporate campus of Israel Aerospace Industries as soon as next year. The pods are hailed by phone, and carry passengers along the magnetic rail system at speeds of up to 44 miles per hour. The passive magnetic system levitates the pod attachment a centimeter above the rails, while a burst of electricity propels the pod forward. If the test at the campus goes well, SkyTran could spread to Tel Aviv at large, moving up to 12,000 people per track per hour with top speeds of 150 mph. The pre-production prototype of the Toyota FCV will make its North American debut at the 2014 Aspen Ideas Festival on Friday, June 27. The hydrogen car's finished exterior was revealed in Japan on Wednesday along with its nearly $70,000 price tag. It will go on sale in Japan by April of next year, and will come to Europe and California in the summer of 2015.
