Update 7/22/2014. Truck just cleared Colombian inspections now and is scheduled to ship on the freighter Friday with estimated arrival July 31, 2014. Truck then will need to clear US customs in the following week and ship one day to Tampa. Estimating August 7th through the 10th. $5000 deposit holds this truck for your inspection. The VIN number will be the chassis number which is FJ40359271. Volcan 4x4, LLC based in Tampa, FL and Medellin, Colombia brings this very exciting truck to the US market. The truck is named Pacho. This is a rare late model 1982 FJ40. Approximately 700 FJ40s were imported into the US in 1982 making this a collectable truck. We sourced this truck from an airline pilot who upgraded the truck and kept it garaged. This truck has thousands of dollars in accessories and upgrades. Volcan 4x4 then spent 30 days overhauling what was already a very clean truck. This truck has: 4 inch Rough Country lift kit with gas charged shocks 5 90% tread 285/75/16 mud tires (33 inch tires) 5 black alloy rims new AISIN hubs 4 speed H41 transmission with 4.10 gears (Colombian spec) vent windows 7 passenger layout with newer vinyl. door panels are new. custom roll bar working AC pioneer stereo with new speakers power windows performance header and brand new oversized exhaust with stainless steel muffler custom bumper with WARN winch Reese hitch newer battery 4 drum brakes (recently reviewed) power steering with custom leather covered steering wheel custom fitted vinyl floor mats with new insulation up front floors rust free and recently textured painted in beige new rear half doors 2 coats of new black protective paint under the truck This truck starts immediately and sounds fantastic with the header and exhaust. Not too loud but powerful. This is the most powerful and quickest truck in our fleet. This Pacho powers up the local 8000 foot Colombian highway in 3rd gear where the other trucks had to drop to 2nd. Steers straight and stops well. The ride is tight/hard due to the lift kit. Truck will be sold mileage exempt via Florida law due to the model year but given some Colombian documents and working odometer looks to be 176,000 miles. The paint is very nice in original code Dune Beige. It has a touch of pearl white in it. There is a slight scratch on the driver's side but overall very clean. Painted black under the fenders. Very handsome truck gets a LOT of attention. Compression test was in the 120 range. This truck outperforms another truck that we had in the 150 range. Very strong motor. A $5000 refundable deposit to Volcan 4x4, LLC secures this truck until it arrives in Tampa. Truck is priced aggressively in the market at $35,900. This is our 5th truck since we started Volcan 4x4 and we price the trucks to sell quickly before or within 30 days once they reach the US. We have the advantage of being able to pick among very nice rust free Colombian FJs. This is a fantastic late model lifted FJ40. |

How new car shortages may impact your buying experience
Wed, 04 Sep 2013If you want further proof that the auto industry is bouncing back, look no further than the empty lots and forecourts of your local dealership. According to a story by The Wall Street Journal, continued high demand for mainstream cars is overtaxing automakers' ability to produce enough models. Several dealers interviewed for the story are reporting two-week supplies as opposed to the typical two-month allocations.
With sales expected to hit 1.4 million units when August numbers arrive shortly and incentive spending down to its lowest amount since January, these limited supplies are pushing prices even higher. For example, according to the WSJ, the average price of a Ford Fusion is up past $26,000. Unfortunately, it's difficult for manufacturers to increase production quickly. If it invests in its facilities, as many manufacturers have done, it risks wasting cash if growth suddenly slows. At the same time, the momentum gained over the past several years could be short lived if vehicle supplies continue to dwindle. "Manufacturers are in a precarious situation," notes Karl Brauer, a senior director at Kelley Blue Book.
Low interest rates and a wealth of desirable features are also allowing customers to purchase more expensive vehicles while justifying their higher overall price tags, a situation that is compounding supply shortages. Even now, during the annual end-of-summer clearance season, deals on new vehicles are remarkably difficult to come by. According to the report, the Toyota Corolla is in a self-inflicted state of shortage, as Toyota clears out inventory in anticipation of the new 2014 generation arriving in dealers. Ford's supplies should rebound as Fusion production comes on line at its Flat Rock, Michigan factory. The Chevrolet Impala, Honda Odyssey, Civic, and Accord and Subaru Forester are also facing shortages.
Toyota recalling 20k 2014 and 2015 cars and CUVs with 3.5L engines
Thu, 18 Sep 2014Toyota has announced a recall of roughly 20,000 vehicles covering the 2014 Avalon, Camry, Highlander (pictured) and Sienna, as well as the 2015 Lexus RX luxury crossover. The affected vehicles are all powered the 2GR-FE engine, which in layman's terms, is Toyota's well-regarded 3.5-liter V6.
According to Toyota's statement, a parts supplier might not have welded "the end cap on the right-hand fuel delivery pipe in the engine compartment" correctly, meaning fuel could leak. Leaking fuel, of course, increases the chance of an engine fire. That said, no fires, crashes or injuries have been reported due to the issue.
Owners will be notified to report to dealers, where techs will check the fuel delivery pipe and fit a replacement part as necessary.
In Jamaica, it's not easy to sell or buy hybrid cars
Wed, Jan 15 2014Jamaica's mellow reputation and Rasta vibe contributes to an international reputation of an island nation that moves at a leisurely pace. And the term "leisurely" certainly applies to the rate of sales of hybrids there. And we thought Mitsubishi i sales in the US have been slow. The country's Toyota dealership is still in the process of explaining hybrid technology to many of its prospective customers, with the widespread perception remains that a standard Toyota Prius needs to be plugged in for electrical charging, the Jamaica Gleaner reports. Because of such slow exposure, Toyota has only sold about 10 hybrids in Jamaica since the Japanese automaker started selling them there in 2010. And we thought Mitsubishi i sales in the US have been slow. Toyota dealers in Jamaica continue to tout hybrid technology that can boost fuel economy by about 30 percent but are going up against the fact that Toyota's hybrids now need to be pre-ordered and aren't kept in stock because of sluggish demand. There's also the fact that Toyota's Japanese operations insist on an approval process that ensures the hybrids sent there can handle Jamaica's road conditions, and it typically takes three to four months for a Prius to get to Jamaica once ordered. Island locales provide a curious dichotomy for advanced-powertrain vehicles. On one hand, the driving distances tend to be relatively small, lengthening the amount of time it takes to pay back the original cost premium. On the flip side, importing fuel to islands makes gas prices skyrocket and can prove costly for the economy in island nations. Late last year, for instance, the government of another Caribbean nation, Barbados, estimated it spends about $250 million a year on gas used for personal vehicles. That's why the government there is pushing for more electric-vehicle adoption, though the number of EVs on the island was in the low double-digits as of mid-2013.
