This is a 1979 FJ40 with only 102k original miles. It is an unrestored original that has never been painted. You can see exactly what you are getting. This is a great vehicle to begin a ground up restoration on. The frame and axles have minor surface rust and will clean up easily without any of the major pitting that is seen on some vehicles from salty enviroments. This Cruiser runs, steers, stops, and drives nice. I would not hesitate to drive this vehicle to any destination in the United States.

I first purchased this vehicle in 2001. At that time it had 80k miles. I owned it for several years and then sold it to a good friend of mine. It was sold a couple more times before I re-purchased it last year. I had intentions of completing my 4th complete frame up restoration but decided to stick with the one I already completed.

The tires were purchased new 3 months ago and have about 10 miles on them. They are mounted on original FJ40 rims and have brand new OEM hubcaps. They are 33x10.50R15 BF Goodrich Radial Mud Terrains. All 5 were purchased at the same time.

The radiator and water pump were recently replaced. It currently runs a Weber carburetor and header with a Mallory Unilite ignition. There is a new OEM carb, linkage, some side mirrors, and air cleaner included to take it back to stock. I also have a stock exhaust manifold from a 1977 2F motor that I will include if the buyer desires. The exhaust on the rig is not stock but is also new within the last couple of years.

I drove this rig today and it starts and runs perfect. It is a solid rig and is very complete. The only modifications from stock are the carb and header, Mallory electronic ignition, and rear fender flares.

I have tried to show the rust as clearly as possible in the pictures. The rear quarters have the typical rust. To fix this, it needs quarter panels and the rear sill parts that are all available from Cool Cruisers of Texas. There is some rust in the wheel wells but it is small and patches will do. There are also 2 small holes in the drivers side floor that need a patch. The rust on the rockers appears to be just deep surface rust and should clean up without having to replace any panels. The fenders and hood are good as well.

There are some other minor dents in the front passenger fender and passenger door.

If you have read this far, you already know that the 79-84 FJ40s are the ones that are highly sought after by collectors. They have the under body gas tank that is a little bigger and a lot safer than the in-cab tanks of the ealier years. They have the 4 speed transmissions and the 3:70 gear ratios that make them drive better at highway speeds. The 33 inch tires help this rig run comfortably down the road at 75.

This is a great rig and you will not be disappointed. I have heard and seen all the stories of people buying painted over rust buckets for big money and having to sink thousands into them to fix them. You can see exactly what you are getting with this rig.

I ask for a $500 deposit within 2 days of the close of this auction. The balance can be handled through a bank transfer cash in person. I have a clear Wyoming title for this vehicle in my hand. No bank liens or other issues.

This rig also comes with a Warn 8274 winch and remote that is in great working condition. There is also a heavy duty panel that closes the back end of the tub if you take the top and rear doors off. It is shown under the extra parts. The original tool bag with the Toyota OEM tools and some extra no-name tools, as well as all original jack and handles is there too. The brake master is also new. The rear seat is a Con-Fer unit that folds down and has storage underneath. There is also a Con-Fer console installed. I do not have the original console piece. Stereo is new too!

On Apr-07-14 at 05:56:45 PDT, seller added the following information:

This rig has a Rancho 2 or 3 inch lift kit and it also has an Auburn limited slip differential in the front axle. Also, the front bumper was built to bolt on to the stock brackets. It can be removed and replaced with an OEM bumper.

Fernando Alonso reportedly will race for Toyota at Le Mans

Sat, Nov 11 2017

When it was recently announced that Fernando Alonso would race in the 24 Hours of Daytona in January, it was described as a warm-up for an eventual attempt to win Le Mans. "Eventual" may come pretty fast: It now looks like the Formula One champion will race in the Le Mans 24 Hours next season as well. Or so reports BBC Sport, which says he'll race for Toyota. But wait, there's more: The BBC also says he's in talks with Toyota to drive most of the entire World Endurance Championship — while keeping his day job driving for McLaren in F1. "Le Mans is agreed," a source close to Toyota told the BBC. "The rest of the season is still being negotiated, but it looks like he will do most of the races." BBC's sources say Alonso will drive a Toyota WEC car in the season's last race, in Bahrain on Nov. 19, to get his feet wet. The season's final Formula One race is the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Nov. 26. Neither Alonso nor Toyota would confirm an impending deal. Alonso said at practice for this weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix: "So far, nothing to comment. We will see. Just rumors." What's motivating him is this: He's 36 years old and is intent on becoming only the second driver, after Briton Graham Hill, to win motorsport's Triple Crown. That entails winning the Formula One title (or just the Monaco Grand Prix according to one interpretation) as well as Indianapolis and Le Mans. He has won Monaco as well as the 2004 and 2005 world titles. He recently signed a contract extension keeping him at McLaren in 2018. As for the Indy piece of the Triple Crown, Alonso famously raced there this year and was running competitively when his Honda engine failed in the closing stages of the race. So expect to see him there again as well. Racing with Toyota at Le Mans and other endurance races should give him better luck than he had this season with McLaren-Honda in F1 and at Indy. Though Toyota has never won Le Mans, it is known to be developing a new WEC car. Traveling the globe to race in both the WEC and F1 in the same season sounds grueling, but it might be possible. The circuits have provisional schedules, and there's just one conflict — the U.S. Grand Prix and a WEC race in Japan are both penciled in for Oct. 21. But McLaren sounds none too keen on him doing the whole WEC schedule. McLaren racing director Eric Boullier told the BBC: "He has said he is keen to do some races outside. There is a case-by-case discussion. His main and first focus is F1, so that has to be the priority.

10% of Toyota China dealers may drop due to losses

Thu, Jan 1 2015

News about the auto industry in China is usually positive thanks to booming sales and an ever-increasing number of factories across the country. But in some cases, it appears that the dealers with the job of actually selling all of those vehicles are having trouble finding buyers. The result is cars piling up on lots and showrooms resisting against automakers. Japanese automakers already face a tough road to success in China, but the FAW-Toyota joint venture is especially struggling this year. According to Bloomberg, as many as 10 percent of the dealers might have to close or stop selling the brand because they just can't make money selling the vehicles on their lots. Also, 95 percent of the showrooms are reportedly losing money. The issue facing FAW-Toyota sellers is mostly a case of supply and demand. Automakers in China mandate the number and types of vehicles that dealers sell. However, the inventory from all makes is at its highest level since August 2013, according to Bloomberg. The situation leaves dealers with packed lots, and cars often require discounts to move. Making matters harder is that showrooms have annual sales targets, which are linked to bonuses. This money can account for over half of the sellers' annual profits, according to Bloomberg. The FAW-Toyota dealers are pushing back by asking Toyota for 2.2 billion yuan ($355 million) to pay for costs associated with the extra inventory. It also lowered sales targets by six percent earlier this year and has requested no increase in the numbers for 2015. Lost power in a winter storm? Just hook up a Toyota Prius like this guy did

Thu, Jan 9 2014

The Toyota Prius' battery pack just got something like a five-star rating from a truly seasoned professional – a 50-year aircraft technician. Bob Osemlak, who'd served more than three of those five decades with the Canadian Air Force, brought electricity back to his home in December during a heavy ice storm thanks to his gas-electric car. His ingenuity allowed him to turn on lights, furnace, refrigerator and the TV. The Thornhill, Ontario resident lost power for nearly a day on December 21 – not nearly as much as millions of other people hit by the recent storm - and so he still set about using his Prius for backup power, according to EV World. His ingenuity allowed him to turn on lights, furnace, refrigerator and the TV. Being an aircraft technician for so long brought Osemlak the ability to home-brew his V2H set-up that he urges other people to avoid, for safety reasons. He had planned for a potential power outage by installing an outlet on his furnace and, when the storm struck, he ran a cord through the basement window to the car. During the nine hours Osemlak used his Prius for backup power, the car's fuel gauge only reduced less than one bar, or roughly the equivalent of a gallon of gasoline. It wasn't the first time Osemlak had played with his vehicle. In the 1960s, while stationed in Winnepeg, Manitoba, he created a car starter. Every hour, the car would start up and run for 10 minutes to avoid being frozen solid in frigid winter temperatures.
