This 1973 Toyota Land Cruiser (VIN FJ5530025) benefits from a recent, good driver quality restoration including new paint, upgraded seats, disc brakes, power steering, and fitment of a 300 HP, 350 cubic-inch small block Chevy V8 mated to a fresh Toyota 4-speed manual. The truck has clean, solid floors, frame rails and rockers with rust limited to some moderate bubbling found mostly along the drip rails. It’s currently running and driving well and looks great in the factory green/cream color scheme.

Two tones work very well with these trucks, and both the medium green and cream components of this combo are well chosen. Panels looks solid and straight with good fit, though several paint imperfections can be seen in different places, the worst of which seems to be a half inch nick with rust on the front, outer corner of the driver’s side hood bulge. Matte gray Icon-style wheels are a great choice and wear fresh rubber, the stock front bumper has been replaced with a quality ARB bull bar, and a Reese Class III trailer hitch resides in back.
Inside, seats are upgraded modern buckets for increased safety and long distance comfort. A simple Grant three spoke leather steering wheel looks good here, as do door panels with upholstery matched to the seats, and a large, clean cargo area.
Underhood, the largely stock 350 makes a nice round 300 HP thanks in part to a large Edelbrock carb, and the engine is tight, leak free and strong running. A red top Optima battery is a nice option, and with the dramatically increased power on offer this FJ55 should be capable of freeway merges with ease.
In addition to a fresh Toyota 4-speed, other driveline maintenance includes a fresh transfer case, clutch, and all new driveshafts as of May, 2013. A 40-gallon fuel tank is more than adequate, while the power steering and disc brakes make for substantial driveability improvements on these rigs.

Toyota's Mirai fuel cell car gets its own special showroom

If the car's unique, the showroom better be as well. That's the approach Toyota is taking with the Mirai, its first production hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicle. In fact, the model is getting its own special showroom starting this Friday. The Japanese automaker is opening the showroom in Tokyo. The facility takes up two floors totaling about 1,800 square feet and, from the pictures, it looks to have a very Zen-like quality. Toyota will be displaying one Mirai vehicle and will have another vehicle available for public test drives available every Friday. Toyota started selling the Mirai in Japan late last year and has announced plans to debut the car in the US – starting in California Â– this fall at a base price of $57,500, or a lease option of $499 a month for 36 months ($3,649 is due at signing). Earlier this year, Toyota said it was going to bump production to 2,000 vehicles next year (and 3,000 in 2017) from 700 units this year. With such a ramp-up in store, Toyota will spend about $170 million increasing production capacity of the fuel-cell vehicle. That total probably doesn't take into account the stylish new Tokyo showroom.
