1970 Toyota Land Cruiser Fj40 on 2040-cars

This is a nice Cruiser that could and would be my daily driver if I didn't need a pick-up for work. I bought it about 8 years ago in Nampa, Id. The previous owner said he brought it up from California. Thats about all I know of its history. There are more things that I have fixed or upgraded over the last 8 years than I can remember but I will try to get most of it on here.
-Rebuilt original F155 Toyota 6 cylinder motor with plenty of pep and power. (about 10,000 thousand miles since rebuild.) -Radiator was rodded when engine was rebuilt. -Upgraded Australian H41 4 speed Toyota transmission. (This has a 4.925:1 1st gear rather than the American 3.555:1.) Still has the stock lower geared 3 speed transfer case which gives it a super nice crawling gear. And it is all stock Land Cruiser parts. -Center Force Dual Friction clutch. -Asian vacuum advance carburetor with vacuum advance distributer. (gives a little more pep and performs great off road even in high elevations.) -Toyota Mini Truck power steering. -New "HFS" 3 inch lift and 32/11.50 mud terrain tires.(about 60% tread remaining.) -U bolt skid plates. -Full custom roll cage with grab handles and a place for CB. -Best Top fold and tumble rear bench seat. -New dune beige paint. (2007) -Has Best Top soft top, summer top, and hard top.(Not painted or assembled but complete with some new gaskets and seals and enough paint, although its 7 years old, to finish it. All included with sale.) I had a body shop tell me that it would cost $1500 to repair all the rust and get the hard top painted and ready for install. Not too bad. ----WINCH NOT INCLUDED--- There is more, I'm sure. And there are lots of spare parts as well as stuff I have to still put on. I have black leather heated bucket seats from a Subaru and shoulder belts from a newer FJ40 I was going to install but have not gotten around to it. I will include all of this stuff with "buy it now price". This truck looks great but it is not perfect.(minor rust resurfacing, some paint chips and minor scratches from branches and things. "Desert pin striping" I guess you might call it. Gas will drain back out of the carburetor if the rig is not driven daily and make it take about 10 - 15 seconds of cranking to get started but it always starts and runs great. There are also a few small oil leaks but nothing serious. As far as I know these are the only mechanical issues. I get looks and compliments every time I drive it. But it is one of those rigs that I built and used for hunting and camping so the paint is no longer perfect. If you want a truck that looks good and has many of the upgrades needed for great off road capability then this is the Cruiser for you. I have owned and been building and improving this Cruiser with the intension of keeping it forever but an opportunity has come up for me that I would like to take advantage of so I am reluctantly selling. I can email you more pictures if you need them. Just let me know. Buyer is responsible for vehicle pick-up or delivery from Ontario, OR 97914. I may be able to deliver within 300 miles or so for a fee. I know we will be taking a trip to Lake Tahoe in a few weeks. So if you are anywhere in the southwest, this could be a good meeting place. Plus you could run the Rubicon with it. :) I will require a $2000 deposit within 48 hours of auction end. Remainder will be due within 4 business days unless other arrangements are made with winning bidder. I also reserve the right to end auction early as vehicle is for sale locally as well. I will check emails daily and get back with answers to questions as quickly as I can. You can also call me at 541-212-6873. Leave message if I don't answer and I will call you back as soon as I am able. *****RESERVE PRICE HAS BEEN LOWERED FROM PREVIOUS LISTING***** On May-29-14 at 21:14:04 PDT, seller added the following information: I do have a file full of receipts, both parts and labor, for nearly all of the work that has been done to this rig since I have owned it. I can also get you pictures of the unfinished hard top if you would like them. There is very little rust in that either. |

Bring back the Bronco! Trademarks we hope are actually (someday) future car names
Tue, Mar 17 2015Trademark filings are the tea leaves of the auto industry. Read them carefully – and interpret them correctly – and you might be previewing an automaker's future product plans. Yes, they're routinely filed to maintain the rights to an iconic name. And sometimes they're only for toys and clothing. But not always. Sometimes, the truth is right in front of us. The trademark is required because a company actually wants to use the name on a new car. With that in mind, here's a list of intriguing trademark filings we want to see go from paperwork to production reality. Trademark: Bronco Company: Ford Previous Use: The Bronco was a long-running SUV that lived from 1966-1996. It's one of America's original SUVs and was responsible for the increased popularity of the segment. Still, it's best known as O.J. Simpson's would-be getaway car. We think: The Bronco was an icon. Everyone seems to want a Wrangler-fighter – Ford used to have a good one. Enough time has passed that the O.J. police chase isn't the immediate image conjured by the Bronco anymore. Even if we're doing a wish list in no particular order, the Bronco still finds its way to the top. For now (unfortunately), it's just federal paperwork. Rumors on this one can get especially heated. The official word from a Ford spokesman is: "Companies renew trademark filings to maintain ownership and control of the mark, even if it is not currently used. Ford values the iconic Bronco name and history." Trademarks: Aviator, AV8R Company: Ford Previous Use: The Aviator was one of the shortest-run Lincolns ever, lasting for the 2003-2005 model years. It never found the sales success of the Ford Explorer, with which it shared a platform. We Think: The Aviator name no longer fits with Lincoln's naming nomenclature. Too bad, it's better than any other name Lincoln currently uses, save for its former big brother, the Navigator. Perhaps we're barking up the wrong tree, though. Ford has made several customized, aviation themed-Mustangs in the past, including one called the Mustang AV8R in 2008, which had cues from the US Air Force's F-22 Raptor fighter jet. It sold for $500,000 at auction, and the glass roof – which is reminiscent of a fighter jet cockpit – helped Ford popularize the feature. Trademark: EcoBeast Company: Ford Previous Use: None by major carmakers.

Toyota recalling 10k vehicles to fix wiper switches
Fri, 11 Oct 2013Toyota has announced a voluntary recall covering approximately 10,000 cars in the United States. Affected models include the 2013-14 Camry and Camry Hybrid, 2013-14 Avalon and Avalon Hybrid, and the brand new 2014 Corolla.
The problem, as Toyota explains it, is that, "During manufacture of the wiper switch assembly in the involved vehicles, certain contacts on the switch terminal could have been manufactured incorrectly." This could lead to a short in the circuit when the wiper switch is moved between "off" and "mist," and thus, cause the windshield wipers to stop working. Not good.
Toyota will contact owners via first class mail, and the vehicles can be repaired at dealerships, free of charge. Have a look below for the automaker's official statement.
