Selling a very rare, low mileage, rust free 1964 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser in excellent condition. I am losing part of my garage storage this winter and am selling off a few pieces in my classic car collection for space considerations only.

The previous owner restored this truck about 10 years ago and it has had very light use since (about 10,000 miles since the restoration). This model has the very rare bi-fold rear window hard top. Here's the history of the truck that I received from the previous owner:

It was purchased as a rust free Colorado truck in 2001. The original color was desert tan and had about 70,000 miles on the clock. The owner met another FJ collector who was about to modify his nice original 1975 FJ40 with a new Chevy crate 350 engine (a popular upgrade on FJ's), new 5 speed transmission and Recarro seats (I have trouble understanding why anyone would do this to a nice original FJ, but that's just me). So, the owner of this rig bought the entire engine, 4 speed transmission and 4-wheel drive transfer box, rear end/drive train and front seats from that 75 FJ which had only 37,000 original miles. The frame was removed and the truck was painted white and all the previous mentioned components and seats were installed. The 64's originally had a smaller engine and 3 on the tree transmission. So, this is essentially an earlier model FJ40 with a more modern and powerful running gear that now has only 47,000 miles on it. While I have no history on the carburetor- at appears fairly new. Please note that the engine info listed by ebay is incorrect- it apparently defaults and cannot be deleted.

This FJ looks great and runs great. There is no rust anywhere except for a few very small surface spots (less than the size of a penny) that I've sanded and touched up. The 10 year old paint has held up very nicely and has a nice shine. It has always been garaged since being restored. All glass is excellent, floors are solid.

I've never removed the hard top because I haven't had a place to store it. As shown in the photo's, the rear bi-fold window opens, and coupled with the front under-window vents, keeps it cool in warm weather driving. That said, I have a brand new (still in the box) bikini top that will come with the truck as well as a nice set of black soft doors. You may be able to see in one of the photo's that the hard top has a handsome custom gray felt headliner that is embroidered with "1964 Toyota Land Cruiser". It looks cool, serves as great roof insulation and quiets outside noises.

This FJ has a brand new Diehard Gold battery and installed on-board charger if you opt to store it for longer periods during the winter. I recently added a pair of roof load bars and a basket roof rack. There's an old school am-fm tape deck under the dash with great sounding rear surface mounted speakers. The Michelin tires are nearly new on 15 inch wheels. Rear mudflaps are either NOS or superb reproductions- they are nearly impossible to find. I have a reproduction of the original owners manual for the new owner.

There are a few minor needs... my turn signals and brake lights are out. Fuses look OK so it may only be a ground wire. The bi-fold window goes up and down and locks into place when up, however there is some missing hardware that would allow you to lock the window when closed.

Trades? I really need the garage space so trades don't solve my reason for selling. That said- my particular interest is classic Saab's and Volvo's so I'd listen to a partial trade if you have something of interest for a Volvo 1800, 122 or 544...or Saab 95, 96 or Sonett. I'll listen to reasonable offers and the truck is also for sale locally so the auction may be ended early. I'm happy to show the FJ by appointment. Feel free to bring along your mechanic too. This is a very rare truck and if you've been looking at old FJ's you already know how prices have been soaring over the past few years. This is a fun truck and a great investment for the right buyer.

Best Large SUVs of 2024

Tue, Dec 19 2023

When it comes down to large SUVs, there's more to consider than price and just how large it is. First, it comes down to what's underneath the skin. Some are built on a truck-like body-on-frame chassis — this would be the traditional, literal definition of an "SUV." Others use car-like, unibody construction, which would make them a crossover. What really matters, though, is how you use them. For most American families, a large three-row crossover is going to be your best bet. They have loads of passenger and cargo space, and deliver superior fuel economy, handling and ride quality than those big traditional SUVs. They're cheaper, too. On the other hand, those traditional large SUVs like the Chevy Tahoe and Ford Expedition are better-suited for more heavy-duty tasks like towing. Most now have bigger third rows than big crossovers, while extended-length versions like the Chevy Suburban have way more cargo capacity behind their third rows than everything but an airport shuttle. As for luxury large SUVs, they fall into those same two categories as well, with American choices mostly being truck-based. The pros and cons of choosing one over another are similar. Below, you will find our list of the best large SUVs broken down into three categories: large family crossover, large traditional SUV and large luxury SUVs, which comprise both construction types.  Best Large Family Crossovers  |  Best Large Traditional SUVs  |  Best Large Luxury SUVs Best Large Family Crossovers 2024 Honda Pilot Why it stands out: Exceptional storage and cargo space; unique second-row functionality; refined ride; versatile and capable TrailSport; advanced AWDCould be better: Subpar acceleration with lackadaisical transmission and engine response; so-so driver assistance tech Read our full 2024 Honda Pilot Review The Honda Pilot was completely redesigned for 2023. It maintains its predecessor's family-friendly packaging and overall focus, but it has injected a welcome sense of style (especially in the TrailSport pictured above) that makes it stand out much better from the big crossover crowd. The Pilot's restrained adornment and classic proportions are refreshing compared to the increasingly busy Kia Telluride, Hyundai Palisade and Subaru Ascent. Let's talk about practicality, though, which is ultimately the Pilot's best attribute.

Toyota GT86 CS-R3 ready to rally

Mon, Jan 26 2015

Toyota is returning to the rally scene with the competition-spec version of the GT86. First announced over a year ago, the GT86 CS-R3 began testing this past summer, and is now just about ready for customer deliveries. Instead of contesting the top tier of the World Rally Championship, the GT86 CS-R3 was designed to compete in the R3 class. It's closely based on the road-going model (better known around these parts as the Scion FR-S), and retains its 2.0-liter boxer four, sending 238 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque through a Drenth six-speed sequential gearbox and limited slip differential to the rear wheels. Available in either tarmac or gravel specification, the GT86 CS-R3 comes complete with "body shell, powertrain and all mechanical components required to build the car." It's set to undergo final FIA certification in July, at which point it'll be ready to deliver to privateer rally teams to field in national and international rallies and in the HJS TMG CS-R3 Trophy that kicks off in Germany on July 4. The package sells for ˆ84,000 ($94k at today's rates) before taxes, but customers who place their orders before April 24 will get a ˆ5k discount. Related Video: 23 Jan 2015 GT86 CS-R3 NEARS COMPETITIVE DEBUT TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH is pleased to confirm the final details of the rear-wheel-drive GT86 CS-R3 rally car, which will make its competitive debut this year. Cologne, Germany - The CS-R3 prototype was launched last August and since then has completed an extensive test programme to optimise design and define the final specification of the kit which will be delivered to private competitors and teams. Detailed development has generated improved performance on both gravel and tarmac, while reliability and durability have been prioritised in order to deliver a car which allows cost-effective competition throughout the season and beyond. The CS-R3 has already proved immensely popular thanks to its rear-wheel drive powertrain, with 1,998cc, 238hp boxer engine and six-speed sequential transmission which combine to produce a spectacular driving experience. The first cars will be delivered to customers in May, later than originally forecast to allow improvements highlighted during testing to be implemented. As a consequence TMG has extended its introductory discount.
