Up for auction and for your consideration is two (2) Toyota Land Cruiser FJ 40 bodies or tubs as many refer to them as. The best tub is a pre- ambulance rear door model and the donor is the ambulance rear door model. The best tub of the two has already been media blasted ($225.00 ) and includes the cowl or firewall. The donor tub has 80% of the areas needed to restore the good tub. Both tubs have small scattered damage other than the rusted areas but are definantily workable areas. The better tub rust is MOSTLY confined to the following areas:
The passenger and drivers floor board areas and fuel tank area. Donor body has good floor boards and fuel tank area.
The right side rocker area which is good on the donor body.
The upper rear fender areas that is covered and overlapped by hard top side panels also has rust, but the donor tub is good in this area. This area is not visible when the hard top is installed. This area can also be chemically treated with metal conditioner to halt any further rusting in the future and would not need to be replaced if you chose not to do so.
The above covers the main rust issues, but there is other smaller areas that may need attention such as the mid floor area. It has a small area, but the donor has good metal in this area as well.
Please remember that "WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET" in the pictures. Many pictures are furnished to help bidders to make a good informed decision before bidding. This part is available online or can easily be fabricated in most any shop rather cheaply. Buyer is completely responsible for determining if these tubs will meet his personal needs and requirements. Please factor in that the new aluminum reproduction F J 40 tub is in the range of $6000.00 without the cost of shipping from Canada. 2013 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport
Tue, 16 Apr 2013"Oh yeah, Toyota still makes the Tacoma." Admit it, that's what you just said to yourself. It's a perfectly natural reaction, but the Tacoma has been quietly anchoring its segment for years, outselling every other compact pickup without making too much of a fuss. Toyota hasn't neglected the Tacoma - it was updated in 2012 with a revised nose and interior as the most noteable changes.
In a world awash with high-value fullsize pickups all vying for your attention, the Tacoma still charms more than a few buyers out of their cash. I hooked a Tacoma for a week to see whether it still has enough to recommend it.

Mazda's new Mexican plant capacity rises to 230,000
Sat, 05 Jan 2013After the turmoil of last year, 2013 is getting off to a much better start for Mazda. The company has issued a release indicating that the forthcoming plant in Salamanca, Mexico has had its production capacity raised even though it isn't scheduled to go online until March 2014. The original plans called for a 140,000-unit capacity, 90,000 of that allotted for the Mazda2 and Mazda3, the remaining 50,000 for a small car Mazda would build for Toyota that would be based on the Mazda2. The new plans call for raising that by 90,000 units to a total of 230,000 units within two years, by the end of March 2016, and it looks like it will all go toward Mazda production to satisfy growing demand for Skyactiv vehciles. The Mexican plant's opening will be the return of Mazda manufacturing to North America, after Mazda6 production was moved back to Japan last year.
More good news for the company is that it projects 10 billion yen ($114 million) in net income for the financial year that will end in March. That would be a welcome turnaround from the 100-billion-yen loss in the previous financial year, part of a series of three annual losses in a four-year span.
You'll find the press release with the factory update below.
An early gas-electric hybrid was developed by...Exxon?
Tue, Oct 25 2016We're not sure which aspect of Exxon's 1970s-era efforts to develop advanced and electrified powertrains is the most ironic. There's Exxon, that of the Valdez oil spill infamy, being on the leading edge of hybrids and electric vehicles. There's a boat-like Chrysler Cordova getting 27 miles per gallon. And there's the central role a Volkswagen diesel engine plays in that hybrid development. It's all outlined in an article (linked above) by Inside Climate News, and it's an amusing read. Flush with cash and fearing what it thought was peak oil production in the 1970s, Exxon funded a host of new ventures divisions geared to find alternatives to gas-powered powertrains. In the early 1970s, Exxon lured chemist M. Stanley Whittingham to develop what would become a prototype of a lithium-ion rechargeable battery. Then, in the late 1970s, Exxon pioneered the concept of using an alternating-current (AC) motor as part of a gas-electric hybrid vehicle. The company retrofitted a Chrysler Cordova (yes, that's the model Ricardo Montalban used to hawk) with a powertrain that combined 10 Sears Die-Hard car batteries, an alternating current synthesizer (ACS), a 100-horsepower AC motor, and, yes, a four-cylinder 50-horsepower Volkswagen diesel engine. The result was a rather large two-door sedan that got an impressive 27 mpg. And while US automakers didn't see the potential in the early concept, in 1980 Exxon and Toyota began collaborating on a project that would involve retrofitting a Toyota Cressida with a hybrid engine. That car was completed in 1981, and may have been one of the seeds that eventually helped sprout the concept of the Toyota Prius. Soon after rebuilding the Cressida, Exxon would get out of the advanced-powertrain-development business, as oil prices began to fall in the early 1980s, spurring cost-cutting measures. Cry no tears for the Exxon, though, as what's now known as ExxonMobil is the largest US oil company.
