1987 Corolla FX16 - 10.4:1 compression ratio - 40mpg

This car is 95%. It really just has minor scratches and needs to be vacuumed out and washed well. There is no rust and the car is solid. The interior is in very good shape.

This chassis has about 227,000miles on it. The engine has 30,000miles on it with a fresh rebuild. The head was milled 0.035" and the block was milled 0.005" for a total of 0.040" which brings the dynamic compression ratio to around 10.4:1. I was working as an engineer at Honda even though I am a Toyota guy at heart. While I was working there I wanted to build a fuel efficient version of the 4AGE. The car has adjustable cam gears and has been tuned to give great drivability and good fuel economy. Driving medium I get around 34mpg everytime. Driving hard, the lowest I have gotten is 30mpg. Driving conservatively I have gotten 41mpg.

It has custom built coilovers made by the same company that manufacturers Selex suspension. Very high quality. I paid almost $1600 just for the suspension. The springs are 8/6 kg which is what TRD specifies. This car handles like a race car. Very incredible. The dampening is two way adjustable. The height is adjustable from what is in the pictures about 3inches up or down. I wanted to slam the car a bit more than it is in the pictures, but have not had time to work on it. Camber plates front and rear with a fresh computer alignment done just last week.

The clutch is fresh upon install of engine 30,000miles ago. O2 sensor is new, distributor o-ring needs to be replaced.

Transmission is in great health. Shifts well. Drives very well. Fresh Redline gear lube.

The grill that is on the car is not the original. I have the original which is not broken. Winning bidder will get it. I have just been saving it to make sure it stays in good shape. The car has a CD player installed, but I also have the stock radio for it. Winner can have both.

I have driven this car back and forth between Alabama, South Carolina, Georgia, and Massachusetts several times since the rebuild. It drives phenomenal. I got this car from Washington state and have taken very good care of it since it has entered my possession.

I also have an extra hatch, complete driver's side and passenger side doors, basically a complete extra 4AGE longblock that was run with low oil and needs a rebuild. I also have tons of parts like intake and exhaust manifold, AFM, extra front stock front seats in pretty good shape, timing covers, cam gears, etc. Winner can have any/all of this stuff they want at time of pick of car. I don't remember exactly what I have, but there is a lot. It must be taken at time of pick up of car.

I also have the original shocks for this car in good shape and the car can be converted 100% back to stock anytime.

This is a great car. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere.

This car is being sold as is. No warranty. Please ask questions before bidding. Bidders with zero feedback must contact me prior to bidding or their bids will be cancelled. $500 deposit is due at the time of the end of the auction via PayPal.  I will be happy to get $3400 for this car, but I think it is worth $4000.  No reserve. Happy bidding.

Full payment is due within 7 days of end of auction unless prior arrangements are made with me prior to the end of the auction.

Bring back the Bronco! Trademarks we hope are actually (someday) future car names

Tue, Mar 17 2015

Trademark filings are the tea leaves of the auto industry. Read them carefully – and interpret them correctly – and you might be previewing an automaker's future product plans. Yes, they're routinely filed to maintain the rights to an iconic name. And sometimes they're only for toys and clothing. But not always. Sometimes, the truth is right in front of us. The trademark is required because a company actually wants to use the name on a new car. With that in mind, here's a list of intriguing trademark filings we want to see go from paperwork to production reality. Trademark: Bronco Company: Ford Previous Use: The Bronco was a long-running SUV that lived from 1966-1996. It's one of America's original SUVs and was responsible for the increased popularity of the segment. Still, it's best known as O.J. Simpson's would-be getaway car. We think: The Bronco was an icon. Everyone seems to want a Wrangler-fighter – Ford used to have a good one. Enough time has passed that the O.J. police chase isn't the immediate image conjured by the Bronco anymore. Even if we're doing a wish list in no particular order, the Bronco still finds its way to the top. For now (unfortunately), it's just federal paperwork. Rumors on this one can get especially heated. The official word from a Ford spokesman is: "Companies renew trademark filings to maintain ownership and control of the mark, even if it is not currently used. Ford values the iconic Bronco name and history." Trademarks: Aviator, AV8R Company: Ford Previous Use: The Aviator was one of the shortest-run Lincolns ever, lasting for the 2003-2005 model years. It never found the sales success of the Ford Explorer, with which it shared a platform. We Think: The Aviator name no longer fits with Lincoln's naming nomenclature. Too bad, it's better than any other name Lincoln currently uses, save for its former big brother, the Navigator. Perhaps we're barking up the wrong tree, though. Ford has made several customized, aviation themed-Mustangs in the past, including one called the Mustang AV8R in 2008, which had cues from the US Air Force's F-22 Raptor fighter jet. It sold for $500,000 at auction, and the glass roof – which is reminiscent of a fighter jet cockpit – helped Ford popularize the feature. Trademark: EcoBeast Company: Ford Previous Use: None by major carmakers.

eBay Find of the Day: Back To The Future Marty McFly 1985 Toyota SR5 pickup tribute

Mon, 05 Aug 2013

With DeLorean time machine replicas thick on the ground, it was only a matter of time before someone started recreating the other vehicles in the McFly garage. At the end of the first Back to the Future movie, Marty returns to 1985 to find his sweet-looking Toyota SR5 truck all waxed and ready for his date. That truck always did look great in the movie, and now's your chance to own this close facsimile.
This Back to the Future replica Toyota is on eBay with a price of $14,500, which the seller claims is half of what's been invested. Perhaps that's true, but it's still a nearly 30-year-old truck that's covered 280,000 miles. The seller does say the 22RE engine has been recently rebuilt, along with the rest of the drivetrain, and there's new paint, too. The attention to detail is admirable, and if you've always admired Marty's '80s-chic 4x4, now's your chance to own it.

Toyota discontinuing FJ Cruiser after 2014 model year

Tue, 20 Aug 2013

The Toyota FJ Cruiser is not long for this world. According to the manufacturer's own fleet website, the rugged FJ will be discontinued after the 2014 model year, with the companies final orders due in June of next year.
Toyota first launched the FJ Cruiser in 2006 as a 2007 model, and aside from minor year-over-year changes, it has not been substantially updated. The FJ is the modern successor to the original FJ40 Land Cruiser that Toyota produced from the 1960s all the way up through 1984, when the automaker decided to better focus on its larger, four-door Land Cruiser line. Currently, it uses a 4.0-liter V6 engine with either rear- or four-wheel drive, and is available with either a five-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. Interestingly, word of the FJ's demise comes not long after Toyota's US boss, Bill Fay, reaffirmed his company's commitment to body-on-frame trucks in late July.
Also of interest, Toyota's fleet website states that the 2014 model year Prius range will have "minor updates," though it's unclear what those are as of this writing. When Autoblog reached out to confirm these developments with Toyota, spokesman Curt McCallister reminded us, "As is our corporate policy, we don't discuss future products beyond the present or upcoming model year."
