This is a one owner car that was well cared for. It has 247900 miles. The third-generation Celica arrived in 1982 with the introduction of the Celica GT-S. It offered performance similar to that of a Supra with the fuel economy and price of a Celica. Getting an EPA estimated 38/24 highway/city miles per gallon (can not guarantee that is the current MPG), the GT-S came with a sport suspension, performance tires, and power assist steering. Exceptionally well maintained "driver". Interior is very clean and shows less than normal wear for its age and miles. Paint is good but has deterioration to the clear coat on the hood and roof that is common for cars of this era. There is one 2" dia. spot of surface rust at the back of the drivers side door jambMechanically very sound and reliable with no known defects. Great tires, good brakes, glass is in good condition, "S" package (includes: sport suspension, Aluminum Alloy wheels, Sport Seats with w/LH 8-way adjust, and sport fender flares), variable assist power steering and all weather guard package. Factory AM/FM radio was replaced with an after market unit, but the original factory radio is included for those wishing to bring this car back to original. Spare parts include seat belt retractors and outside rear view mirrors. Original owners manual, extensive collection of sales literature, Motor Trend magazine featuring this model as "Import Car of the Year", plus original window sticker. New drifting world record set in Toyota GT86

Last year, BMW smashed the Guinness World Record for the longest drift by hanging the tail out for 51.3 miles around a wet skid pad in an M5 at the BMW Performance Driving School in South Carolina. That beat the previous milestone of nearly seven miles. Now, Bimmer's record is up in smoke as well and is in the possession of a Toyota.
German driver Harald Müller pummeled the old record to drift for 89.55 miles around a 0.15-mile (235.5-meter) course in Samsun, Turkey, in a Toyota GT86 (or Scion FR-S as it's known in the US). According to the Guinness World Records website, it took him 612 laps and 2 hours, 25 minutes and 18 seconds to manage the achievement. Sit back to watch a few minutes of the German's two and a half hours behind the wheel with the tail out.
Toyota to offer sedan version of GT 86?
Fri, 11 Oct 2013Sources in Australia are reporting that we'll be seeing a small, rear-drive sedan from Toyota, based on the GT 86/Scion FR-S. Yes, a convertible variant is still in limbo, but a four-door sedan is in the works. It's unclear if the rumored GT 86 sedan would spawn Scion and Subaru variants (it's hard to cross all ten fingers while you type, but we're having a go).
Working with remarks made by the car's chief engineer Tetsuya Tada in his blog and a rendering from Japanese magazine Holiday Auto, the Australian site Motoring is claiming that the new model's wheelbase will grow about four inches over the current GT 86's 101.2-inch wheelbase.
Besides the larger overall space between the axles, the sedan will offer a more potent engine option over the current 2.0-liter, flat-four. Promising 268 horsepower, which is a big jump over the current car's 200 ponies, the new powertrain will be derived from the Hybrid R setup, shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Scion pondering move upmarket?
Mon, 01 Apr 2013Scion is simultaneously celebrating its ten-year anniversary with the 10 Series models and trying to figure out what to do with itself over the next ten years. Once a go-to consideration for young, first-time buyers who wanted something cool and different, in 2013 it has a model everyone is still talking about in the FR-S, a model few are still talking about in the iQ, and three models in between in the tC, xB and xD that make everyone wonder, "What happened?"
Automotive News spoke to Toyota's North American CEO, Jim Lentz - he was the VP in charge of Scion when it launched - about the options, and Lentz said one of them could be a move upmarket to challenge the established luxury brands that are moving downmarket. "There's going to be a big need in the $25,000 range for a fun-to-drive, nice-looking, value-oriented product," he said, and the FR-S, which starts at $25,255, could provide the platform for Scion to climb up a notch or two in price and perception. An idea like this could conceivably work in tandem with a proposal to move entry-level Scion products over to the Toyota brand - but remember, this is all just ideas on a whiteboard at the moment.
As opposed to an "entry-luxury fighter," the brand could swing back to the other option that was considered when it was formed, directly challenging the Korean makes that have usurped its cachet with first-time buyers. Lentz said Scion could go either way, and the tone of the piece seems to indicate that the final direction is still a ways away from being resolved.
