Jaguar E-Type with Supra's 2JZ debuts at SEMA looking fly and fast

Tue, Oct 31 2023

We hope you’re not bored of seeing Toyota 2JZ engine-swapped cars, because this one sure does capture our attention. The 1969 Jaguar XKE 2+2 youÂ’re looking at here is unlike any E-Type youÂ’ve seen before, and while it still has a straight-six under the hood, pretty much everything else about the coupe has fundamentally changed. In a nod to just how beautiful the E-Type is to begin with, its design is only different in this Eneos build because it needs to be. Fender flares were designed and 3D-printed by Illumasthetic, and they were then strengthened with carbon fiber. Why did it need the flares? Well, thatÂ’s because the 2JZ-GTE 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six from the Supra produces far more power than the E-Type ever did, requiring a lot more rubber to keep things straight. Of course, the Supra engine isnÂ’t stock, as itÂ’s been modified with Deatschwerks injectors, a Nuke Performance fuel system, CP-Carillo pistons and rods, a Borg Warner EFR 8474 turbo, Vibrant Performance intercooler Â… the list goes on forever. Output is estimated at about 750 horsepower. The Frankenstein theme continues with the E60 generation 535i rear subframe suspension and differential out back. Meanwhile, it uses the five-speed manual transmission from an E36 generation M3. The front suspension is custom, and while BMW brakes are used in the rear, Eneos chose brakes off a 2003 Chevy Corvette up front. The 17-inch Rotiform STL wheels are wrapped with Bridgestone Potenza RE-71 RS tires. Inside, this Jag-yota gets a full roll-cage, Tillett seats, an OMP steering wheel and a whole lot more. Eneos credits Faruk Kugay as the carÂ’s builder – Kugay previously built some rather creative cars, like a 997 Porsche 911 GT3 with a Subaru Impreza STI EJ25 engine and an E30 BMW 3 Series with a Honda S2000Â’s 2.0L engine. This Jaguar takes the wild engine swaps and engineering to totally new heights, though, and we canÂ’t help but simply love the way itÂ’s been executed. Related Video

Consumer Reports says Toyota, Ford, Honda and Chevy are big winners in brand perception survey

Wed, 05 Feb 2014

According to Consumer Reports, the automotive brands that stand out in the minds of car buyers are, in order: Toyota, Ford, Honda and Chevrolet. This news comes after the magazine polled its readers, asking them to take into account vehicle quality, safety, performance, value, fuel economy, design/style, and technology/innovation - which are the factors that car shoppers are most influenced by.
It's important to note that this award is only about perception. In other words, it's perceived quality, not actual quality. "Often, perception can be a trailing indicator, reflecting years of good or bad performance in a category, and it can also be influenced by headlines in the media," said Jeff Bartlett, Consumer Reports deputy automotive editor.
The brand that made the biggest jump in perception amongst Consumer Reports readers is Tesla, which posted an impressive 47-point gain to finish in fifth place. Subaru is also notable for finishing in the top 10, despite being one of the smaller manufacturers doing business in the US. Scroll down below for all the details from Consumer Reports, if you're so inclined.

2016 Toyota Tacoma fears no canyon in Detroit

Tue, Jan 13 2015

It took a lot for it to finally happen, but with the 2015 GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado posing a clear and present danger to its near monopoly in the mid-size pickup market, Toyota finally introduced a new version of its Tacoma. Introduced at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, the long-serving Taco has been refit, ditching its old, thirsty and uncouth 4.0-liter V6 with a Toyota's smooth-revving and powerful 3.5-liter, naturally aspirated six pot. Output figures haven't been published, but considering the V6 churns out around 270 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque in vehicles like the Toyota Camry and Highlander, we should expect similar numbers in the 3.5's first truck application. Joining the six-pot will be the previous truck's 2.7-liter four-cylinder. Beyond the powertrain tweaks, Toyota has delivered a significantly updated aesthetic that borrows elements of the 4Runner with newer design touches. A strong, prominent grille and muscular fender arches are fitting touches, while the new wheel design, one of our, featured on the show Tacoma deliver some added visual impact. The cabin, meanwhile, could best be thought of as that of a baby Tundra, sporting a similar layout and, when properly equipped, materials and touches that wouldn't look out of place on its big brother, the Tundra. Take a look at our full crop of live shots, available up top.
