For sale is my dad's 4Runner, it is the top of the line LIMTED Edition V8 with the 4x4, leather Interior, Hill Descent, Heated Seats, Lockers, Sunroof/Moonroof, Lighted Running Boards, Digital Radio Control from the rear (although I don't know where the remote is, if I find it - it will also be included), etc etc. This is basically the Lexus LX470 with a Toyota badge but IT did have a $43K + price tag! The vehicle is very nice for its age, it has its usual nicks and touch-ups here and there but nothing serious. Paint is still very nice and even nicer when the black paint is freshly waxed.  It is black, so any dust or dried up bird poop will show...Very well maintained, the engine starts right up and purrs with no odd noises or issues. Transmission shifts through all the gears with no hick-ups. Tires have about 60% of life left in them, 4X4 Low and High engages fine. Interior is very nice with no stains, odors or issues. The leather is in great shape - non smoker. He has always maintained it, it already has the Timing Belt/Water Pump and Tensioner Pulley done at 89K along with NGK Plugs. It just had the rear O2 sensors done last month along with new rear brakes. The 4Runner drives straight and true, with no shimmies or vibration. All the electrical features work, including the Sun Roof/Moon roof option. The only incident that it was involved in was him backing into an Office delivery truck at Costco in Florida. The damage was to the driver side (Left) tail light and a scrape on the bumper. He replaced the tail light (he still has the cracked tail light) and touched up the bumper.  I do not know if the insurance company reported it to Carfax as it was under $700.00? The 4Runner was used by him for major trips - Florida to Scottsdale during the Golf Season. Unfortunately his health has deteriorated badly within the last few months and we had to trailer the car back to Scottsdale.  He is also here right now at Mayo Clinic. I have registered/emission tested and titled the 4Runner here, so it comes with a Clean and Clear AZ title.  It also has the Original window Sticker along with owners Manuals and one set of keys + Remote FOB. Please do not email me with low ball offers, I am not interested. I don't want to trade or swap. Money is more important for his medical bills at this point. I know the value of these trucks, especially the clean ones that have NO rust and only 93K miles on it. The only issues I have found are as follows: The Limited Edition Rims have removable Center Caps - it seems that people like to remove them and sell them on Craigslist. Two of them have been taken/stolen already, as it was a complete set when we brought it here. If you are familiar with the 4th generation 4 runner, there is a current group lawsuit against Toyota due to the plastic material Cracking on the Dash. Although he had a dash cover on at all times, the cracking has started. There is hope that in 2014 Toyota will have a recall and replacement for all the 4th generation 4Runners. You can read more about it on the 4Runner Forums. (Google Toyota 4th generation Dash cracking)The car is in perfect operating condition, it is registered and titled.  You can fly in and take it/drive it or have a carrier pick it up.  If you plan to drive it home please make sure you check the weather forecast - it is winter!  In Arizona it's sunny and 75 but as soon as you get on I40 or I10 you have Ice and snow...The 4 Runner is a little dusty outside as it has been sitting for the last 2 months parked, I will wash it before pickup.  This SUV is being sold AS is and Where is, with no written or implied warranty or guarantees - it is a USED Vehicle!  You may have the vehicle checked out at any mechanic of your choice that is near North Scottsdale or you can come and test drive it.  If you expect perfection, or a brand new car - this is not it!  I expect a $300 non-refundable PayPal deposit within 24hrs of the auction's end.  If I do not receive the deposit, I have the right to void our deal and sell to someone else.  Payment forms are:  Cash, Money Order, Bank Wire Transfer.  I will only release the vehicle/title if the payment has cleared.

Toyota's future fuel cell vehicle lineup revealed?

Wed, Aug 26 2015

Being an Olympic sponsor from 2017 through 2024 puts Toyota in the international limelight, and the company is preparing a fleet of efficient, cutting-edge vehicles just in time for the Tokyo games in 2020. At least eight new models could be on the way, according to Automotive News citing Best Car from Japan. Three of those might make use of the hydrogen fuel-cell powertrain developed for the Mirai. While many of these fuel cells are going into Japan-only vehicles, one of them could come here. Reiterating earlier rumors, Automotive News reports a hydrogen-powered Lexus LS is set for 2018. It could be even lighter than the current hybrid model, too. A similar version of the Toyota Crown would launch there in 2019 and possibly an FCEV Estima minivan, too. Beyond fuel cells, Toyota also intends to put the JPN Taxi Concept from the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show into production in time for the games, according to Automotive News. For 2017, the brand's flagship Century is also expected to adopt a hybrid V8 to replace the current V12, as well. Plus, many of its Japanese-market vans are also due for updates. All of this is certainly a massive undertaking to be ready in time, but Tokyo want to use the games as a chance to show the city as an innovative, international destination. Automotive News predicts Toyota could supply thousands of vehicles to haul all of the athletes and dignitaries around. In addition, the Japanese government wants 6,000 fuel cell vehicles on the road and 35 refueling stations up an running for the games. Related Video:

Best cars for snow and ice in 2023 and 2024

Tue, Jan 23 2024

What's the best car for snow? The real answer is "the one with winter tires." What do we mean by that? You could have the finest, most advanced all-wheel-drive system or four-wheel drive in the world, but if you're running all-seasons (the spork of tires), your fancy four-wheeler won't matter much. The odds are, any vehicle on the road running good winter tires will probably perform adequately in slippery, slushy and/or snowy road conditions. (Here's a more complete explanation of why winter tires are totally worth it). In other words, you don't really need any of the cars on this list. With a set of winter tires, countless others will do the job, and even these will be at their best with proper rubber. You can find a variety of winter tires for your car here at Tire Rack. Keep in mind that you will need a full set of four snow tires for safety and performance, no matter what you're driving. The days of your dad putting just two snows on the family truckster to get it moving in a straight line are long gone. Don't get us wrong, getting a car that performs well in snow and ice is still a worthy criteria for car buyers. According to the U.S. Transportation Department, 70% of Americans live in places that get snow and ice. And much of the country has been blasted with arctic air for much of the new year. So let's look at the cars. First, we're highlighting choices for a variety of buyers and price points. Second, we're not just considering snow; we're considering general wintery conditions people will experience driving to work or school. As such, these are all choices with advanced all-wheel-drive systems, usually with "torque-vectoring" systems that not only automatically shunt power front and back, but side to side between the rear axles. Most have extra ground clearance for getting through deep snow, and we prefer those vehicles with more responsive steering, throttles and transmissions that provide a greater sense of vehicle control in slippery conditions.    Acura RDX Read our Acura RDX Review Acura's Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive system was one of the first to offer torque-vectoring, and besides often being touted for its ability to greatly enhanced dry-road handling, its benefits in the slick stuff can be profound. It's actually surprising that Acura hasn't leaned into this capability further by offering more rugged versions of its vehicles.

Toyota finds 10% MPG improvement in hybrid PCU

Wed, May 21 2014

Keeping up its from-all-angles approach to efficiency, Toyota has found yet another way to eke out up to ten percent more precious MPGs in its hybrid vehicles, this time electronically. The automaker has announced the development of new silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductors for use in power control units, which it will begin testing on Japanese roads within the next year. The PCU using the silicon carbide compound offers less electrical resistance, which improves efficiency when passing current between the battery and electric motor. It also loses less power after shutting off, and can operate at a higher frequency. The net power loss of the new PCU is just one-tenth of the current silicone-only version (the latter accounting for 20 percent of total electrical power loss in today's hybrids). The result, so far, is a claimed five-percent improvement in fuel economy in test vehicles, with the potential of ten percent by the time the new SiC power semiconductor comes to market. Additionally, the carbide wafers allow for smaller a power module, coil and capacitor, thus allowing the entire PCU to be 80 percent smaller (see the side-by-side comparison in the accompanying photo, which you can click to enlarge). We've got a while to wait before we start to see the carbide technology to start making a real-world impact. Toyota aims to begin using the SiC units in 2020. By then, with improvements in the company's other key efficiency factors - engine technology and aerodynamics - cars like the Prius will likely see significant gains in fuel economy. Read more in the press release below. Toyota Develops 'Diamond-like' Computer Chips to Boost Hybrid Mileage May 20, 2014 Toyota City, Japan – Toyota is using one of the hardest materials in nature after diamonds to develop a semiconductor chip it hopes will improve the fuel efficiency of its hybrids, such as the Prius, by as much at 10 percent. The company and its partners announced today that they have developed a silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductor for use in automotive power control units. Toyota plans to begin test-driving vehicles with the technology on public roads in Japan within a year. The chips, made from carbide - one of the hardest materials in nature, theoretically have superior characteristics such as one-tenth the electrical power loss and 10 times the drive frequency. Toyota said the chips would also allow it to reduce the size of current automotive power control units by 80 percent.
