1997 Toyota 4Runner
This is a great 4Runner from Sunny Florida. I have owned this for 2 years and it has never let me down, period. These old style SUVs will run forever with the proper care and you will not be disappointed with this one. The underside of this RWD chassis from Japan is like new with no rust or corrosion anywhere.
The finish is Salsa Red, and very good and shiny throughout, though there is some fading on the hood and roof due to exposure to the sun here. However the sides and rear are very clean and shiny with a very presentable finish. This unit has the full SR5 trim with gold exterior emblems. I elected to replace the front bumper, grille and lower valance with brand new Toyota parts when I bought the car. It had a brush guard which was attached and there was some minor wrinkles in the bumper and grille at the time. I only want the best for my vehicles so these were sourced new, not aftermarket! The truck also has the full SR5 fender trim and running boards making it very attractive. I had found that the rear running board trim was missing and I have these parts (you will see missing in the photos) brand new in Toyota boxes. The rear has a 2" receiver hitch and full trailer wiring for light to moderate towing.
I did not like the 15" wheels and obtained a nice set of Michelin 16" tires mounted on 2003 Tundra wheels, and these are in excellent shape as you can see.
Mechanically, the truck needs nothing. I run a diesel repair shop and have never had to stop and fix this car. It starts up and runs great every day. I disassembled the timing belt cover for inspection only to find a new water pump and belt, they are good for another 50,000. I did replace the accessory belts, thermostat, O2 sensor, NGK spark plugs and hoses along with the valve cover and intake manifold gaskets as well as fuel and air filters. The 4 struts had also been replaced recently. I completely serviced the automatic transmission which is operating flawlessly, also replacing 2 universal joints at the time. There was a slight drag on the engine and this was found to be a malfunctioning clutch fan; a new Aisin / Toyota unit has now been installed resulting in less drag and a silent engine. Castrol 5w30 engine oil is used, along with locally available 90 octane non-ethanol gasoline which we have found to perform well in fuel injected engines.
The interior had moderate wear. I removed the carpet and front seats which were very uncomfortable cloth with no support. I then installed two beautiful and comfortable power leather seats from a Mercury Mountaineer. This was difficult as they are quite wider than the OEM seats, but what a difference in comfort! These are treated with Lexol leather conditioner regularly. The carpeted areas have all been recovered in a tan vinyl flooring from Stock Interiors. It is very durable and washable for beaches, boating, pets or whatever you can get into. I have found it to be a very good tradeoff from carpet and it looks good with the leather. I also have a complete rear leather bench from another 4Runner Limited included with the sale. I added a leather console cover / armrest from a Limited also. The OEM radio was not playing CDs and a JVC head unit was installed with full input capabilities for your 1/8 in iPod.
The 4Runner has every option that you could look for. Power windows, seats, tilt / slide sunroof, rear window fully retracts and defrosts and wipes, cruise control and mirrors are all working like new. The AC system was fully resealed , flushed and the drier was replaced; it blows very cold all of the time in and out of traffic.
There is a Ford Powertroke emblem on the driver's door, this is strictly for advertising and will be removed prior to the sale!
Please call me if you have any questions; I will also send additional photos if needed. My wife wants a bigger SUV and I no longer have a use for this one. You will be happy with this fine Toyota! Jeff 941-830-3137

2018 Honda Accord charges into slumping sedan market
Sat, Jul 15 2017DETROIT - Honda on Friday revealed its newest-generation Accord, one of four re-engineered midsize sedans that Asian automakers are betting on to win market share as Detroit automakers shift focus to SUVs, crossovers, and pickup trucks. The new Accord, like rival Toyota's all-new Camry arriving this month, offers major improvements in fuel economy, technology, styling and safety. Honda declined to discuss details ahead of Friday's event in Detroit. The Accord and Camry are pillars of their manufacturers' US businesses, each selling well over 300,000 vehicles a year. In the coming months, Nissan is expected to launch a new Altima midsize sedan, and Hyundai will launch a new Sonata. Both are popular marques that will be promoted heavily. "There has been no new news on the midsize sedan side for three years, and we think this is a great opportunity to bring attention back to the segment," said Jack Hollis, Toyota's head of marketing for North America. Year to date, US passenger car sales are down 11.4 percent, and sales of midsize sedans are down 14.2 percent. Still, Americans bought 7.1 million sedans in 2016. With General Motors and Ford cutting sedan production, and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles abandoning the segment, Honda and its Asian rivals could boost sales with updated models, dealers said. "They could take share from other brands, which is traditionally what happens when a new product is launched," said Pete DeLongchamps, vice president for manufacturer relations at Group 1 Automotive Inc, the third-largest US auto dealer group. "NOT FINDING A PLACE WITH CONSUMERS" The Accord for years was Honda's top-selling model in the United States. Within the past year, US sales of the Honda CR-V have eclipsed the aging Accord, and Honda has expanded production capacity for the compact crossover. Passenger-car sales have steadily declined since 2012, when they made up 51.2 percent of the US market. Sedans have sagged to a 38.1 percent share in the first half of this year. IHS Markit said US consumer loyalty to SUVs and pickup trucks has risen since 2012, but declined for sedans. The new Accord and Camry "may stem the decline," said IHS Markit's Tom Libby. "I don't think they will cause a marked reverse." Improvements to the Accord should boost sales at Galpin Honda in San Fernando, California, general manager Ed Hartoonian said.
Toyota's Texas move could boost state's economy by $7.2B in 10 years
Thu, 15 May 2014They say everything is bigger in Texas, and apparently that includes the Toyota's effect on the economy. The giant Japanese automaker's new headquarters in Plano, TX, will add an estimated $7.2 billion to the state over the next 10 years, according to a new study commissioned by the city and cited by Bloomberg.
The benefits appear to be an absolute steal compared to the direct incentives that Plano and the state are giving Toyota. The report finds that by the time the automaker's campus is complete in 2018, it could have 3,650 full-time workers there at an average salary of $104,000. The city has prepared $6.75 million in grants, plus property tax discounts, according to Bloomberg. In addition to that, the state is offering the business $40 million in incentives from its Texas Enterprise Fund. This is still a fraction of what Toyota is estimated to bring in.
Toyota announced in April that it would move its US operations to Plano after being headquartered in California since 1957. The move affects thousands of employees from the sales and engineering divisions. The first workers will arrive there this fall, but Toyota will eventually have a whole campus in Plano by late 2017. The move is expected to save it huge amounts in taxation and offer employees a lower cost of living. Toyota North America CEO Jim Lentz also says that the Texas location puts the headquarters closer to more of the business' factories in the south. Texas certainly appears to be showing it some southern hospitality.
Japan's government gives hydrogen vehicles a big boost
Tue, Jun 3 2014The Japanese government is really paving the way for hydrogen fuel cell technology on its roads. Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry is changing regulations on fuel tanks to make hydrogen cars more appealing to drivers, which should help put the country ahead of others in the race to develop a viable H2 fleet. Japan is raising the allowed pressure of hydrogen tanks from 700 atmospheres to 875, which has the effect of increasing driving range by 20 percent. This move puts the country in line with others with high-pressure fueling regulations. Japan is also in talks with the United Nations and the European Union to streamline inspection rules to make it easier to export Japan's fuel-cell vehicles. Toyota premiered its hydrogen-powered FCV Concept at the Tokyo Motor Show last year and plans to release a production version as early as next year. Honda also plans to build its own fuel-cell cars for 2015, and it debuted its FCEV Concept at last year's Los Angeles Auto Show. Nissan is sending mixed messages on hydrogen, both questioning the availability of a refueling infrastructure and working on developing the vehicles. In Japan, a relatively small country, increasing the range of fuel-cell vehicles makes creating a usable infrastructure a bit less daunting. Will hydrogen-fueled electric cars see the same sort of success as Toyota's Prius hybrid or battery-powered EVs? Only time will tell, but we can keep our fingers crossed that it will, and that the popularity spills over beyond Asia.
