1990 Toyota 4runner Sr5 Sport Utility 4-door 3.0l on 2040-cars
San Francisco, California, United States
| I purchased this truck in October 2013, and used it while I was living in Tahoe. The 4WD performs great in the snow, allowing for on-the-fly shifting when road conditions change. Selling because I moved back to the city. Previous owner had it for less than a year as well, but he bought it from his friend who took great care of it for 11 years. Before that, there was only one other owner. The service records are appropriate for the age of the vehicle, and lots of major work has been done in the past 5 years..clutch, radiator, timing belt, valve work, etc. Brake pads on the front are brand new. Registration paid through January 2015 Pros: -Very reliable...starts every time -Bluetooth/CD stereo wired to mic on driver's visor and iPhone/USB plugs -A/C and heat are both good, with rear heat control in the back seat -Looks great Cons: -Burns approx. 1/3 qt. oil per tank of gas -Failed smog test, turns out it's a gross polluter, or more than 2x acceptable HC limit...plus over CO limit as well. (This makes it eligible for a $1000-1500 California buy-back program...keep this in mind when submitting best offers.) I talked to the smog tech about the test history, and he said it failed first in 2009, 2010, then passed in 2010 and 2011, then again in September 2013 right before I bought it. He theorized that the repairs done in 2010 were not sufficient, and mentioned that a vacuum leak or faulty catalytic converter as possible issues. -CV joint makes noise on hard turns or Uturns, but is fully functional -Speedometer makes whirring noise when driven in cold weather without warm-up, but is fully functional It's a shame to retire this truck...seems a great candidate for rebuild, or for someone who wants to drive her a state with no emissions test. If not, I'll enter the California repair assistance program, so that I can diagnose the problem. Available for test drives in San Francisco, CA. Free delivery may be possible to some parts of Bay Area, please contact me to confirm. If purchase price is above $2500, I'll include Infinity subwoofer (see picture) and amp already wired in the back..if it's below $2500 and you still want it, I'll sell them for $150 on top of purchase price. A deposit (10% of Buy It Now price) must be paid through Paypal no later than 24 hours after purchase. The balance must be paid in cash within 3 days of purchase. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. Thanks for reading, and don't hesitate to contact me with any questions. |

Toyota Crown celebrates 60 years
Sat, Jan 10 2015Toyota offers a robust lineup of cars in North America, but while the Crown may not be one of them, that wasn't always the case. And this year, the company's longest-running nameplate is marking its sixtieth anniversary. First introduced way back in 1955, the Crown was Toyota's first major export. It became the first Japanese passenger car to reach the US market when the first-generation Crown was launched here in 1958, and marked the company's arrival in Europe when the second-gen model arrived in Denmark in 1963. It started building the Crown in Australia in 1967 and in China more recently in 2005. The Crown is now on its fourteenth generation, and to mark its birthday, Toyota is launching the sedan for a limited time only in sky blue and bright green. Jan. 08, 2015 Toyota 'Crown' Turns 60 Sixty years ago this week, Toyota launched the "Crown", a luxury sedan that would go on to become the company's longest-running passenger-car nameplate and a significant vehicle in the history of the Japanese automobile industry. In 1958 the Crown became the first Japanese passenger car to be exported to the United States, and also started Toyota's passenger car exports to Africa in 1957 and Europe in 1962. Now in its 14th generation, its foremost models are the Crown Royal deluxe saloon and the Crown Athlete sports sedan, both with hybrid powertrain options. In Japan, Toyota is marking the anniversary with the introduction of limited-time-only sky blue and bright green exterior body colors. 2013 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport
Tue, 16 Apr 2013"Oh yeah, Toyota still makes the Tacoma." Admit it, that's what you just said to yourself. It's a perfectly natural reaction, but the Tacoma has been quietly anchoring its segment for years, outselling every other compact pickup without making too much of a fuss. Toyota hasn't neglected the Tacoma - it was updated in 2012 with a revised nose and interior as the most noteable changes.
In a world awash with high-value fullsize pickups all vying for your attention, the Tacoma still charms more than a few buyers out of their cash. I hooked a Tacoma for a week to see whether it still has enough to recommend it.

Weekly Recap: Toyota, Mazda team up to 'make cars better'
Sat, May 16 2015Toyota and Mazda are teaming for a noble purpose: to "make cars better." That's how the two Japanese automakers termed their partnership, which was announced this week. So what does this actually mean? The companies said they will set up a joint committee to look for areas of cooperation and named safety and the environment as issues they plan to tackle. From a product perspective, it's believed that Toyota is interested in Mazda's Skyactive engine portfolio. In turn, Mazda has its eye on Toyota's fuel-cell and plug-in hybrid technology. While more specifics were not confirmed, the companies said the "agreement will go beyond the traditional framework of cooperation," and it has the potential to be a long-range partnership. "The main purpose of this initiative is to enhance the appeal of our cars," Toyota president Akio Toyoda said at the announcement. Previously, Mazda has licensed Toyota's hybrid tech and assembled compact cars for Toyota in Mexico. Akio Toyoda said these projects "triggered" the automakers to explore further collaboration. Dave Sullivan, product analysis manager for AutoPacific, said the tie-up echoes Daimler's wide-ranging work with the Renault-Nissan alliance. "This could be a well-groomed match due to each having very unique skill sets," he said. OTHER NEWS & NOTES Volvo selects South Carolina for US factory Volvo confirmed this week that it will build its first US factory in South Carolina, with construction set to begin this fall. The company first revealed plans in March, though it didn't announce a site. The plant will have initial annual production of 100,000 units, though the vehicle or vehicles to be assembled were not specified. The factory, located near Charleston, will open in 2018 and ultimately employ 4,000 people. The facility will help Volvo continue its growth strategy, which includes strengthening its presence in the US market, where it wants to sell more than 100,000 cars per year. "Building a plant in the US is a reflection of Volvo Cars' commitment to the US and the key role the US plays in our growth objectives," Lex Kerssemakers, senior vice president, Americas, said in a statement. Ford GT spied on the road The 2017 Ford GT was spotted testing around the Blue Oval's headquarters in Dearborn, MI, this week. The raw body panels were exposed, and they lacked paint or camouflage. It's the first time the GT has been captured on the street after a spring of auto show reveals.
