For Sale:  1995 Mustang Convertible – 3.8 Liter V6, Automatic Transmission, and an original car with original paint and a very clean interior and a new top and tires. This is a two-owner, non-smoking    family car that it used for weekends and around town errands and was previously used for college transportation. Now everyone has graduated, car gets only occasional use, so it needs a new home.  It is selling without reserve for a fair price, given upkeep etc…. Car is located in Central Illinois (zip 60970) and is an everyday driver (good mpg) with a clear, clean title and all maintenance done etc…*****

Car has 148,000 original miles and runs and drives great - pictures were taken at our local dealership  as I had the car gone over mechanically prior to listing it; required repairs and lube were done. Car has previously had its timing chain redone, head gaskets redone, intake gasket redone (typical repairs on these), new mass air flow sensor, alternator (last year), new main drive belt and the factory cassette unit was replaced with a factory Ford AM/FM stereo CD unit when the car went to college. Within the last two years we did new struts up front, shocks in the back, new convertible top (tan $2100), rack and pinion steering rack replaced (rebuilt $400) with pump flush and refill, tune up, and new injectors (rebuilt ones). Pulling it out of storage as we decided to sell it, a new set of Goodyear radial tires all around (w/alignment $830), and a new battery from the Ford dealer were installed.  Fluids and filters are up-to-date and always have been maintained.*****

Car runs and drives great and is used off and on during good weather here in Illinois. Car needs only its headlight lens polished out as they are yellowing slightly, there is a small tear in the seat material on just the driver’s side as shown, and the floor mats were shot from use so it will need a new set. Body-wise there is no rust on the body, there is one area on the driver’s rear quarter panel (top lip) where the clear paint coat is starting to peel, but minor (paint is original on the car). The hood on the car also has some chips and some imperfections in the paint given age, but still very presentable. Top is perfect on the car (pictures shows it slightly still wet in parts given the shop’s courtesy wash). Mechanic showed me the underside of the car on the rack and it also is very presentable with minimal rust, just usual wear. Driver’s door pinstripe is also slightly worn given top down, arm on door edge driving!*****

Car is selling on eBay with no reserve, I don’t have it for sale locally and won’t do so locally till later this Spring if it does not sell. Deposit by Paypal of $1000 within three days of sale’s end, balance to be paid by either cash at pickup or by bank wire transfer prior to coming for the car (call for bank name, bank contact, and account/routing numbers) within two weeks after depositing. I will receipt new owner for each step in the payment process. If not picking up and paying within two weeks, car can stay stored here for 30 days at no cost as long as it is fully paid for (bank wire option). After 30 days, I will be unable to return the deposit funds, however, I will return the rest of the funds. I am just looking to find a new owner for this nice car and to get some of my garage space back! Please feel free to contact me with questions, come personally or send someone to look at and try the car if needed, or contact me with any other needs. Can’t hardly buy a running/driving convertible car, with no issues or rust, for under $4000!*****

Junkyard Gem: 1998 Suzuki Swift, Schnorchel Edition

Sat, Aug 20 2022

To enable the use of internal-combustion engines underwater, German submarines during the later years of World War II used a pipe system swiped from the Dutch to suck in air and spit out exhaust. This rig was known as the Schnorchel, and a similar setup can be used on modern trucks to keep the engine from inhaling water or dust during river-fording or off-roading. In fact, you can buy a new Ford Bronco with a factory schnorchel (or snorkel, if you prefer the English spelling) right now. Purchasers of new Suzuki Swifts, however, had no such factory — or even aftermarket — option, and so the final owner of today's Junkyard Gem had to fabricate one using hardware-store components. Yes, this is a fully functional air-intake snorkel, made from PVC pipe and entering the engine compartment via not-so-precision holes sliced through the fender and inner fender. Once in the engine compartment, the pipe connects directly to the engine's throttle body. Sure, for serious underwater use you need to waterproof the distributor plus any sensitive electrical components, not to mention find some way to keep water from getting into transmission vents and the like. We can assume, however, that this snorkel wasn't intended for sustained underwater use. Other limitations of the Swift as an off-road machine, such as suspension design, ground clearance, and lack of four-wheel-drive, may have become apparent once the snorkel was installed. There are some wheel flares installed, to enable the use of oversized wheels and tires. The Swift is the same car as the Suzuki-built Geo Metro, which became the Chevrolet Metro starting in the 1998 model year. Known in its Japanese homeland as the Cultus, these cars were sold in every far-flung corner of the world. It appears that you could buy a new Cultus (with Margalla badges) in Pakistan as recently as a few years ago. This isn't the first interestingly modified second-generation Swift I've found in a Denver-area car graveyard in recent years. Perhaps the "Slokyo Drift" 1996 Swift was modified by the same person. There's just something about a tiny, fully depreciated car that inspires creativity. The 1998 Geo Metro was available with either a 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine or a 1.3-liter four-banger, but every new Swift sold here that year was a big-block car with the 1.3 and its 70 horsepower. This one even has the five-speed manual transmission, for added driving fun. Just 166,280 miles on the clock.

Suzuki Jimny LCV is a bare-bones two-seater

Fri, Jul 9 2021

The Suzuki Jimny is a truly versatile vehicle, and we don't just mean in its prodigious off-road capabilities. Turns out, the compact 4x4 can be configured in a variety of ways to skirt the road tax rules and enthusiast demands of various markets, making it an even more desirable proposition for a budget four-wheeler. The latest variant arrives in the form of the Jimny LCV for the U.K. market. That stands for Light Commercial Vehicle, and as such it's not subject to the same strict emissions rules as passenger cars. It also means that it doesn't come with any rear seats, expanding the cargo area to just a hair over 30 cubic feet. In fact, the U.K.'s emissions laws were so strict, Suzuki was forced to take the Jimny off the market in early 2020. After a year's hiatus, this workaround was the only way to bring the popular SUV back to old Blighty. There's only one trim level to the Jimny LCV. It comes with solid colors, but you can order metallic or two-tone paint for an extra charge, its only option. As with most LCVs, there's a safety partition separating the cargo from the front seats. Compared to the passenger version with all seats folded flat, there's an extra 1.2 cubic feet of hauling space. The Jimny LCV might just be the latest version, but it's not the only one. There's already a narrow-body and small displacement version to qualify it as a kei car in its native Japan. Also, there's the recently announced Jimny Lite to serve as a blank canvas for enthusiasts who want to build their own rig. Like the Jimny Lite, the Jimny LCV comes with analog climate controls as opposed to digital, a traditional stereo in place of a touchscreen, halogen headlights instead of LED, 15-inch steel wheels instead of aluminum and a five-speed manual as the only transmission option. It differs from the cost-saving Lite, however, in that the LCV retains its fog lamps. Of course, it the LCV still retains the things that make it a great off-roader, including the ladder-frame construction, solid front and rear axles, and low-range gearing. In essence, it's a wink to true enthusiasts who missed their chance to get a Jimny prior to 2020. Suzuki U.K. says that it will be "available in very limited numbers" for 2021. So, if you live there and want a new Jimny, the four-wheeling gods have given you a rare second chance. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. Suzuki Alto goes back to basics in Japan

Wed, Dec 24 2014

Believe it or not, you're looking at a brand new car. Not an old model from the '80s that's still being manufactured in some far-flung corner of the world, not a rehash of old technologies, but an all-new model introduced in Japan for the Japanese domestic market. Looking like a cross between a Jimny and a VW Up!, the new Suzuki Alto is a different machine entirely from the somewhat ungainly but comparatively modern model of the same name manufactured in India by Maruti Suzuki for markets around the world. This is the JDM version, built to Kei car specifications, and shares little more than its badges with the Indian model. Based on a supposedly all-new platform, the new Alto boasts what Suzuki claims is the best fuel economy of any non-hybrid in Japan. That's partially because of its spritely curb weight, down by 132 pounds over the model it replaces to tip the scales at just 1,345 pounds. That's over 600 pounds lighter than a Smart Fortwo. The whole thing rides on a tiny 97-inch wheelbase, of which 80 inches are taken up by the passenger compartment. Power comes from a 660cc three-cylinder engine mated to either a five-speed automated manual or CVT in a number of configurations that ought to help Suzuki sell even more of these than the 4.8 million Altos it's sold in Japan alone since its introduction 35 years ago.
