1988 Suzuki Samurai Turbo Diesel 4x4 manual 5 speed
This is our second Samurai we've had they are blast to drive. We bought this one last year and tow barred it from Georgia here to Michigan Its been a great little vehicle this past year. My husband has driven it to work everyday which is 40 mile round trip. The only problem it had is that the wipers didn't work but we just bought one here on eBay he just hasn't installed it. He did put on a new door handle, but other than that it's been great. The fuel mileage is excellent he said at least 30 mpg which is better mileage the the gas engine we had. We love this little truck but husband is selling this and his ford truck to buy a vintage truck. The engine is from a mid 80's Volkswagon Jetta. We did not put it in but previous owner said it came out of his buddys wrecked Jetta . The owner said that he put in the hobbs meter which reads somewhere over 300 hours I don't know that that tells a story. It has a mechanical injector pump. Husband put a cold air intake in it it helps the turbo breathe and supposed to boost mpg. It has dual batteries and a new glow plug relay and fuel cutoff solenoid. We just got the hard top it has the rear hatch door on it much better for our Michigan wintertime. Two people can easily remove and put it on its not that heavy. The soft top is in pretty good shape it has some loose stitching in one of the corners. Big difference in the way the two look on it. The body is solid, the paint is poor, the tub and under carriage has been rhino lined. The doors are easily removable. We put on Rock Sliders and a Brush guard. There is a dent in the center if the tailgate, It has the Rocky Road Outfitters suspension and adapter kit so that lifts it 4 inches. There are 4 inch lift shackles on the front. It has a soft type ride to it. The previous owner did a good job on the conversion. The brand of matching tires is Buckshot Maxxis Mudders the size is 30 x 9 50 R 15. They have about 5,000 miles on them. We did get a spare for it I don't know size or brand, but its a spare. It has a mechanical injector pump Its a manual 5 speed and shifts perfect. The transfer case shifts perfectly 4x4 works perfectfly shift nicely and smooth. manual lockout hubs. Top speed is about 55 because of stock gearing. So its not a freeway flyer but will get you where you're going. It got all the perfect characteristics of a Sammi only with a Vw Turbo diesel engine. If you want to call Robert for more details his number is 734.657.2868 We have it for sale on Craigslist so if someone were to buy it before an eBay bid has been placed then I will cancel this auction. If you have placed a bid then your bid is a bid. We just want to sell it either avenue $500 Paypal or in person deposit required with in 24 hours of winning auction. If you are picking it up from here and want to tow it behind you vehicle than you can have our tow bar If you have a shipping company handle it we will be as helpful as we can. |

Drive pits Ariel Nomad against Suzuki bike
Thu, Oct 1 2015Ariel introduced the Nomad at the beginning of the year, which is basically an Atom converted to sand-rail duty with the addition of features like a composite cage and waterproof cockpit, Hella light bar, and Ohlins suspension with hydraulic bump stops. Evo reviewed it not long after, now Drive has got hold of it and put Steve Sutcliffe at the wheel, sending him to the Sweet Lamb Rally Center in Wales. The Nomad in this guise also gets a winch and BF Goodrich tires with a rear high-mounted spare. The motor is a US-spec, 2.4-liter Honda unit tuned to 240 horsepower and 235 pound-feet of torque, all going to the rear wheels only. The weight is just 1,477 pounds. For kicks, they sent Northern Irish motocrosser Graeme Irwin along to give Sutcliffe a point of reference. We're used to seeing cars battle bikes, and unless it's wet or the race goes to beyond 200 miles per hour the bike almost always takes it. Irwin was on his Suzuki RMZ-450, a bike with about 60 hp, but that, combined with Irwin's skills, was plenty enough to keep Sutcliffe hard at work. You can watch the dust fly in the video above. Mazda, Suzuki, Yamaha — more vehicle data fabrication found in Japan
Thu, Aug 9 2018TOKYO — Mazda, Suzuki and Yamaha improperly tested vehicles for fuel economy and emissions, the Japanese government said on Thursday, revealing fresh cases of compliance failures by manufacturers. The results came to light after the Japanese government had ordered the automakers to check their operations after revelations of improper testing at Subaru and Nissan last year. The conduct of automakers globally has come under intense scrutiny after Germany's Volkswagen AG admitted in 2015 to installing secret software in hundreds of thousands of U.S. diesel cars to cheat exhaust emissions tests, and that as many as 11 million vehicles could have similar software installed worldwide. In the Japanese cases, the carmakers have not broken any laws or prompted massive recalls. But a growing list of improprieties has tarnished the image of the country's manufacturing industry for high-quality products and efficiency. Suzuki, Mazda and Yamaha cleared vehicles for emissions or fuel efficiency even in cases where they were tested under invalid conditions, the ministry said in a statement. The errors related to slight deviations in the speed of the vehicles during testing that should have invalidated the test results. The automakers examined tests they had conducted over different periods of time, and in Suzuki's case they stretched back to 2012. None of the automakers found significant problems with actual emissions and fuel economy performance of the vehicles, which were destined for sale in Japan, and do not plan any recalls. Suzuki, Japan's fourth-largest automaker, said that of 12,819 sample vehicles tested for fuel economy and emissions since June 2012, around 50 percent of them had been inspected improperly. "I deeply apologize and will lead efforts to prevent recurrence," Suzuki Chief Executive Toshihiro Suzuki told a news conference. Mazda said there were irregularities in 4 percent of similar inspections on its cars, or just over 70 vehicles. In Yamaha's case, irregularities were found in 2 percent of inspections, or just a handful of vehicles. Both Mazda and Yamaha apologized. Suzuki and Yamaha shares fell 6 and 5 percent, respectively, and Mazda shares were down 1 percent, underperforming a steady benchmark Nikkei average. In July this year, Nissan admitted it had improperly measured exhaust emissions and fuel economy for 19 vehicle models sold in Japan.
Junkyard Gem: 1990 Suzuki Sidekick Convertible
Sun, Jul 17 2022When General Motors decided to create the Geo brand in 1989, for vehicles designed and/or built by Isuzu, Toyota, and Suzuki (strangely, the Daewoo-built LeMans kept its Pontiac badges even as the Corolla-based Chevy Nova became the Geo Prizm), the only Geo truck was the Tracker. The Tracker (later a Chevrolet) was really a Suzuki Escudo aka Vitara, and Suzuki decided to sell these trucks in North America with Sidekick badges. Here's one of those early Sidekicks, photographed in a Denver self-service yard with period-correct aftermarket wheels. The first-generation Tracker and Sidekick were sold here for the 1989 through 1998 model years, after which the Tracker name lived on for a few more years on the second-generation truck and Suzuki ditched the Sidekick name in favor of Vitara and Grand Vitara. Suzuki kept selling Grand Vitaras here until the very end (which came in 2013). This is the first Sidekick I've documented in the Junkyard Gems series, because they never sold as well as their Tracker siblings and have become quite rare. Power came from this 1.6-liter G16 engine, a bored-and-stroked version of the engines used in such machines as the Suzuki Samurai and (four-cylinder) Geo Metro. Carburetors were nearly extinct on new vehicles in the United States by 1990, but you could still buy a few throwbacks that didn't have EFI. Might as well brag a bit with a badge like this one! You could get the '90 Sidekick with a five-speed manual or a three-speed automatic, with your choice of rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. This one has the five-speed and 4WD. American Sidekick shoppers had their choice of a two-door hardtop or convertible version; this one is the convertible. It's equipped with exquisitely 1990s spoked wheels, complete with the stretched narrow-tire treatment. The brightly-painted interior trim pieces suggest more of a mid-2000s influence. Just over 150,000 total miles on the odometer. Leaf springs? No, the Sidekick got modern coils. In the Sidekick's homeland, the TV commercials went for a North African look.
